Arlington County Approves $50,000 for Families of ICE Detainees
Oh, the county won’t require the families to prove detention or deportation or provide employment records.
Stay classy, Virginia!
The Arlington County Board has put aside $50,000 for families whose breadwinner has been detained or deported by ICE.
In other words, an illegal alien.
The county won’t require families to prove detention or deportation or provide employment records.
The Arlington County Board set aside $50,000 for grants to support families whose primary wage earner has been detained and deported by ICE.

From WJLA:
Each family can get up to $2,000. This comes just months after the board raised property taxes on the average homeowner by nearly $500. And the average renter could see an increase of more than $300 on rent because of the tax increases.
The Board Chairman explained the money will be distributed by Arlington Thrive, a non-profit organization that provides emergency financial assistance.
“This investment in our families is about the urgency we have seen in our community in the last month,” said Arlington County Board Chairman Matt de Ferranti. “And we are going to respond with care. and we are going to respond proudly. That’s what this $50,000 is toward with Thrive.”
I’m not shocked that Virginia counties continue to thwart federal law:
Former Acting ICE Director and former federal prosecutor Jonathan Fahey said the county may be violating federal law.
“Arlington County is putting aside money for presumably people that are not even legal in the country, as opposed to giving it to Arlington County residents or American citizens,” said Fahey. “But I think the one thing that’s really interesting about what they’re doing here, there’s this alien harboring statute, a federal statute that makes it illegal to do something that induces or encourages someone to come to the country illegally or to reside in the country illegally, and I think Arlington County has a real problem with that statute.”
“They’re going to induce more illegal aliens into Arlington County, which will also cost the taxpayers even more money,” added Fahey. “There’s probably so many things that could be done that are better for the taxpayers and the residents and the legal residents of Arlington County.”
DHS has enhanced its immigration enforcement in areas around DC because those states and counties expanded their sanctuary policies.
In January, de Ferranti encouraged Arlington County residents to call 911 if they spot ICE, since the county law does not allow the public or local law enforcement to interfere with federal immigration law. From Fox News:
“That is not just to follow the law, but to do everything possible to protect our neighbors and reduce harm. That means working together to call ‘911’ when you see ICE in our community.”
De Ferranti said calling 911 helps officials know that ICE is present and then pivot to “pursu[ing] Arlington County’s law enforcement mission: preventing violence in our community.”
Last week, a judge placed a temporary injunction on a key part of a Virginia law that limits cooperation with ICE.

Morons. Each and every one of them, Never mind the citizens its people here illegally that matter.
Tax and Spend needs a little revisions for modern times: Tax and Redistribute
Its time for citizens i the county t stage a recall election or continue to suffer consequences of their prior votes. Maybe those county voters enjoy throwing money down the toilet. Is this county one that allows illegal aliens to vote. Glad I left there years ago. Distributing $ through an NGO invites fraud and abuse.
Recall these ass’es
“And we are going to respond with care. and we are going to respond proudly.”
Who is this “we” whereof they speak?
“This comes just months after the board raised property taxes on the average homeowner by nearly $500.”
They should raise taxes by an average of $5000 and buy all the illegals some auto insurance.
Don’t give Loudoun County any ideas. You know the ball is in their court now.
Paula, Paula, Paula, So is this more “collective good” crap? Sounds like you drank mandami’s kool-ade.
Either that or I’m a sarcastic woman.
Listen closer — your sarcasm detector is chirping.
Cut Federal funding by the same amount. I don’t want my tax money going to those criminals
When you subsidize lawlessness, you shall get more of it.
This is great news. If I grow my facial hair I look like a Mexican. I think I can scam these idiots out of some cash.
I just look homeless, so I have to target more westerly idiots.
Log-story-short, after my passed away last year I’ve been looking to move. I will not move to a blue state or a blue city in a red state. There is just no way.
Those people are fools.
Giving away other people’s $ as a performative virtue signaling exercise is not good gov’t.
Other people’s money, of course. Communists.
Sounds bit traitorous to me. Why do we tolerate this nonsense. Not overly optimistic re near term future of country.
Arlington Thrive! interesting IRS 990 financial information for fiscal year beginning 07/01/2024 and ending 06/30/2025:
Line 8 Contributions and Grants $1,276,687.
Line 13 Grants and similiar amounts paid $86,894.
Line 15 Salaries, other compensation, employee benefits $878,474.
Note- Salaries exceeded grants by a factor of ten!
Line 17 Other expenses $423,007
Melanie Anderson, Executive Director, received a salary of $158,276.
Part X, Line 11 Investments—publicly traded securities $800,897.
Leaving aside the legality of federal funds paid to illegal aliens, Arlington Thrive! incredible corruption would make Hillary blush. Salaries paid more than 10 times paid as grants, and only a fraction of the salaries publicly stated.

Appears the Arlington Thrive! board enjoys long lunches at the L”Auberge Chez François…
Qnality Churing Center.
They set aside $50k total? A quick search says the county budget is over a billion and the population is over 200k. Yet that’s the best they can do? This is performance art.
Seems to me they are 1) violating any laws about criminals profiting from their acts, and 2) violating equal application of the law, since the people who are benefitting are a specific group of people who are NOT being treated the same as citizens.
The county won’t require families to … provide employment records.
Hmmm, seems Mr Homan could maybe work with this. Get someone to sue to require it, then he demands to see them, and goes and arrests the employer. I’ll go pop some popcorn.
Helping Illegals to loot the Republic
I didn’t see anything about the county board asking the approval of the taxpayers… Typical liberals, they know what’s better for everybody.
“We’re just like your HOA, except with guns.”
Who could possibly take this guy seriously?
