Oregon Measure to Ban Hunting, Fishing, Ranching Fails to Make Ballot
Oregonians will continue to be allowed to hunt, fish, ranch, and kill mice after a radical ballot initiative failed.
An initiative to ban all hunting, fishing, ranching, and even the killing of mice and other rodents has failed in Oregon.
The People for the Elimination of Animal Cruelty Exemptions Act failed two signature-verification tests conducted by state officials, which means it will not be on the ballot this November. Organizers had collected enough signatures to qualify, but the lack of enough valid signers means the initiative is dead this year.
If passed, the law would have effectively made all killing of animals illegal unless in self-defense. It also would outlaw ranching by equating the insemination of animals with rape. “Yes on IP28,” the group behind the initiative said, adding that they want to protect the right to life of animals.
“The reason we are seeking to prohibit these activities is not to be punitive towards anyone currently involved with the injuring, killing, or breeding of animals, but rather to be protective of the needs of the animals and to codify their right to life and bodily autonomy in law,” organizers explained.
The measure drew criticism from hunting groups, ranchers, and even both the Democrat and Republican gubernatorial candidates.
“I’m relieved IP-28 failed to qualify for the November ballot,” incumbent Democratic Governor Tina Kotek said, according to Fox 12.
“Efforts to criminalize activities like hunting and fishing are wrong for Oregon. I know from conversations with Oregonians across the state that this measure would have done nothing to help them,” she said. “This is a win for tribal leaders, family farmers, ranchers, and every Oregonian who cares about protecting our lands and wildlife.”
Likewise, her Republican opponent Christine Drazan said “it’s time we fight back” against the “extremists.”
Yes on IP 28 promised to try again, noting it has been working on this issue since 2020.
“As we have always said, the movement to protect animals from being killed is one that will take decades if not generations,” the group wrote on its Instagram page. “We encourage anyone who has been inspired by our efforts so far to join us as we prepare for future campaigns.”

Even if the bill had made it onto the ballot, some were skeptical it would pass.
Clay Weber, an agriculture professor at Linn-Benton Community College, previously told The College Fix he expected people would vote against the initiative.
“When a large percentage of the world’s population is in a protein deficit,” Weber said, “the need to feed people will avail over misguided propaganda.”

Put them into a 72 hour psych hold/evaluation …with the professional licensing of the mental health professional at risk if they say not crazy/not dangerous and they reoffend.
If someone doesn’t posses the emotional control/impulse control to behave in a civil manner they have no place in civil society. Warehouse them in a prison or a mental institution and get them away from the rest of us.

If it had ever actually gotten to brain-damaged Oregon voters, you KNOW it would have passed easily.
The Democrats finally realized this measure would drive conservative men to vote. Men who are reluctant voters were going to show up in droves. So the measure suddenly did not make the ballot.

I’m afraid that you’re attempting to apply logic, consistency, and reason to the collectivist/statist/authoritarians who proposed this nonsense. In this case, the Democrat/Socialist/Communist party headquartered in Portland.
They have never in their lives been required to think logically…heck, the government indoctrination centers (euphemised as “public schools”) actively prevent children from thinking at all, much preferring them to emote (aka, “feelz”) instead.
So, NO, they will not change their stance on women being able to kill human beings growing in their bodies right up to the moment they are born (and many are advocating the ability to kill them slightly after being born). Their hatred of themselves is reflected in their hatred of all humanity. This is why to these lunatics that beavers, building beaver dams for beaver purposes, are pure and wonderful, but humans building dams for human purposes are evil.

Would this law also have banned euthalizing dying pets? I would hate to have to let my pets linger when they are too far gone to even stand up or eat.
And that is the WORST feeling in the world! We’ve had many pets and have had to make the decision and then take them to the Vet. Our little “Scruffy” was with us. for 15 years! I picked her up at the City Pound on Christmas Eve, took her home, and first thing she did was run to our Daughters’ bedroom! How did she even know they were there? She was a great “Little Sister” and Guardian for our kids for so many years but time took its toll and she couldn’t see, hear, or walk. It was like losing a member of the Family – which it was! Our Daughter had the same with her “Casey” , a black lab she raised from six weeks until her ripe old age of 16. We buried Casey with our other “little loved ones”! Now contrast all that with catching a fish or killing a germ carrying rodent? Not the same! And what do those IDIOTS think FARMING does?? OR E GONE just dodged a projectile!

Another reason I’m a former Oregon resident. If passed all meat, fish and poultry would be imported from out of the state. Imagine that cost.
Would IMPORTING meat and fish and vegetables BE ALLOWED? All those would have to be DONE somewhere so I bet those IDIOTS would ban that too and they could all just live on AIR!
