People in New York City collected $2.6 billion in welfare payments in 2025, according to newly released data. This represents a massive increase since 2022. Now that Zohran Mamdani is mayor, do you expect this number to increase or decrease?

New Yorkers collected $2.6 billion in welfare cash payments last year, city data shows
New York City doled out more than $2.6 billion in cash assistance to city residents in 2025, a Fox News Digital review of city records showed.
The money reached a record 864,999 people, a 30-year high not matched since before former Mayor Rudy Giuliani instituted major welfare reform in the early 2000s.
The $2.6 billion figure represents a 71% increase from 2022’s $1.57 billion, data showed.
When coupled with payments from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the city paid out more than $7 billion in welfare to residents in 2024, according to a Fox News analysis of data from the city’s Human Resources Administration (HRA).
The rise in welfare payments comes as some of New York City’s wealthiest contemplate a Big Apple exodus due to what many have described as a policy environment unfriendly to businesses and moneymakers.

New York City dished out welfare checks to nearly 865,000 people over the past year — a historic handout that has sent public assistance spending skyrocketing to a record-breaking $2.7 billion, The Post can reveal.
The city’s Department of Social Services served a staggering 864,999 welfare recipients for the 12-month period ending May 30, a whopping 55.7% increase since 2022 and totals the Big Apple hasn’t seen in roughly 30 years, an examination of agency records found…
Mayor Zohran Mamdani inherited the welfare crisis from his predecessor Eric Adams — but there’s been little change since the socialist took office in January.
And critics fear it’s only a matter of time before he pushes more millionaires and billionaires out of the Big Apple — and with them jobs – sending welfare rolls even further through the roof.
“This is the Communist Playbook 101: make everyone reliant on the government, so the masses have no choice but to support the people signing their checks,” predicted Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R-Queens).
People with the means to do so are already fleeing the city over Mamdani’s philosophy and plans.

No, they’re not. The actual figure is about 36%, which is a bit under 2.5 times the national average.
Of that 36%, about 60% are US citizens, almost 30% are legal residents or on legal visas, and a bit over 10% are illegal.
Also, it’s nothing at all unusual. Throughout New York’s entire existence it has been known as a city of immigrants. The current 36% figure is not historically all that high.
Politicians never worry about spending or giving away money. They have money trees 🌲 also known as taxpayers. Those same politicians have control over taxes levied in their jurisdictions. To pay for their toys and programs they tax their people to paupers and of course additional taxes are levied on anyone who could possibly try and leave. Those paupers who are left behind, if they want to food and a place to live need to keep voting the socialists and communists back in office. A permanent aristocracy as in good old Europe. We are recreating what the USA founders tried to get away from!

There needs to be a firewall between NYC and New York State so the depradations of the former can not affect the latter. Obviously there won’t be because of the moronic AWFUL occupying the NY governership. Therefore there needs to be a firewall between NY and the federal government so NY can die without affecting the rest of us.
There also needs to be firewalls between CA and the federal government, Illinois and the federal government and any other blue state with a socialist bent. These won’t last long because like locusts progressives will just up, move and infest yet another previously safer state.
If we ever get done tackling federal birthright citizenship, we should address U-Haul state citizenship.
