Multiple People Hospitalized After School Bus Slams Into Hamline University Building
“I thought something exploded and I thought the whole building was going to explode.”
This is awful, but it could have been much worse.
CBS News reports:
3 kids, 1 adult hospitalized after school bus slams into Hamline University building in St. Paul, police say
Three children and one adult were hospitalized after a school bus crashed into a building Tuesday afternoon on the campus of Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
University officials say the crash occurred around 2:10 p.m. at the Robbins Science Center, located near the intersection of Snelling Avenue North and Hewitt Avenue.
The St. Paul Police Department says approximately 12 children were on the bus at the time, and three of those students were rushed to Children’s Hospital “to be examined for minor injuries.” The bus driver also suffered minor injuries and was transported to Regions Hospital.
University officials say none of its students or staff were hurt in the crash, and the entire campus was closed “upon the recommendation of emergency responders.”
“Our immediate, absolute priority is the safety and well-being of everyone involved. We are working closely with local law enforcement and emergency services to assist in any way we can,” university officials said.
Students at Hamline University say the damage done matched the sound they heard.
“I thought something exploded and I thought the whole building was going to explode,” Maisa Ashfaq said. “I was just fight or flight, get out of the building now.”
The law firm representing Pride Transportation, the company that owns the bus, says it passed its annual Department of Transportation inspection.
“The safety of the kids is the most important thing,” Pride Transportation said in a statement.

“Pride transportation.”
So wrong, on so many levels.
Given a high number of recent events, I can’t help but notice no demographic information about the bus driver and his/her license status…
Wow, that is crazy. He must have been really flying and not applying breaks to hit that wall. The building is pretty far off the road, and coming straight from the side street requires going over a raised median, and coming from the north/south lanes a hard turn to hit near perpendicular to the wall; I don’t know how you would do that at speed. I am glad the elementary school across the street wasn’t hit.
I am glad I don’t teach at Hamline anymore. Seems like since I left in 2020 they have been in the news way too often for negative things.
Thank you. Very informative details.
