Howard University Prof Blames Father of Murder Victim Austin Metcalf for His Son’s Death
“YOU failed to teach your boy that Black children have boundaries.”
What kind of vile person says something like this to the father of a murder victim?

A Howard University professor tore into the victim-impact statement delivered by the father of slain Texas teen Austin Metcalf, arguing that the teen’s death “did not begin with the knife” wielded by Karmelo Anthony but instead that his father’s parenting style was to be blamed as well.
Dr. Stacey Patton, a professor at Howard University’s School of Communications, penned an opinion piece titled “Dear Jeff Metcalf: Your Son Is Dead Because You Failed to Teach Him That Black Boys Have Boundaries” to Substack on Wednesday on Substack, where she insinuated Anthony was acting out of self-defense.
“YOU failed to teach your boy that Black children have boundaries,” Patton wrote. “YOU failed teach humility, restraint, or the sacred fact that another person’s body is not your jurisdiction. YOU failed to teach him that another child’s space is not a challenge to be conquered. YOU failed to teach him that “community” does not mean white boys get to decide who belongs and who does not.”
Patton’s piece was published a day after Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the murder of Metcalf. The case drew national after now 19-year-old Anthony stabbed 17-year-old Metcalf in the heart during a confrontation at a high school track meeting in April 2025. The case has become a flashpoint in broader debates about race, with Anthony’s supporters arguing he has been treated differently because he is Black, while critics have rejected efforts to make the murder of Metcalf, a white teenager, about race.
“YOU obviously failed to teach your son that touching, confronting, crowding, testing, or policing another person can have consequences,” Patton wrote. “And YOU failed to teach him that the same world that cheers white boys for being bold and aggressive will not always be there to save them when they mistake somebody else’s restraint for permission.”
She blasted Jeff for saying that Anthony had failed his parents in his decision to murder his son.
“It is easier to stand in a courtroom and call Karmelo Anthony a failure than it is to admit that Austin’s death did not begin with the knife,” Patton wrote. “It began with every lesson that told your son that he had the right to approach, challenge, and cross a boundary. It began with every adult who smiled at white boy entitlement and called it leadership. It began with every cultural script that taught him Black boys are the ones to be feared, but never taught him that Black boys might also be afraid.

Bet you a dollar she’s a lesbian too. How does Anthony being armed at a track meet, while in an area set aside for students from a school he didn’t attend, make him a “victim”. Anthony knew exactly what he was doing. Patton’s screed about “every adult who smiled at white boy entitlement and called it leadership” gives her away. It wouldn’t have mattered if Anthony had an AK-47, this wacky bitch would find a way to make Metcalf the one who incited it. Metcalf was a leader, something a twerp like Anthony could never hope to be, because of the huge chip placed on his shoulder by the likes of Patton and the MSM. He thought he was proving he was a man to be reckoned with. Well, I reckon he will be right popular at the Texas DOC. His mouth and attitude will soon put him in a position where he will KNOW he has transitioned from a world where MSNBC and CNN hang on his every action to a world where survival of the fittest is the rule. By the looks of him, he won’t last long.

The good professor is apparently not aware that those “boundaries” are, to say the least, dysfunctional. Homicide Rates Across County, Race, Ethnicity, Age, and Sex in the US.
Which is more than 10 times the white homicide rate. Homicide rates for black children are much lower, around the overall national rate of 1/100,000, but still multiples more than for white children aged 0 -14.
Given those “boundaries” which the good professor has informed us of, it would appear that the best advice for dealing with black teens is to STAY AWAY. Those “boundaries” mean black teens can go off at the least provocation.
So apparently this professor thinks that Mr Metcalf should have taught his son that black boys are wild animals with hair triggers, incapable of reason or of self-control, who must be treated with extreme caution because if you cross their “boundaries” they are likely to lash out instinctively and kill you, just like a venomous snake or a mountain lion or the like. If that were actually the case, then the obvious response would be to lock all black boys up just as we do wild animals, in order to protect the public.
It seems it was Anthony who needed that lesson, since he wasn’t in his own space but in a space that belonged to other people.
It wasn’t any “white boys” who decided that that tent belonged to Memorial students.
I’m actually rather confused about this tent. Was it something that the Memorial team brought with them and erected at the stadium? Or was it a tent belonging to the stadium that the team was given to erect? Or was it permanently up, a feature of the stadium, and was simply assigned to that team, like a locker room? Either way, it was at least temporarily that team’s property, and the students had the right to evict intruders who refused to leave.

Almost every team I have seen in the past 25-30 years at track meets have their own tent. The tent is used to keep runners out of the sun, or give them a place to rest after a race, or very commonly to put the team’s gear in one place and make sure others do not go through the equipment.
The tents are put everywhere, usually inside the track where the surface is easy to sit on and people can access the track easily, but some teams will put them in bleachers, or other places around the facility. It does not mean teams are totally isolated from each other, but rarely will someone from a different school go near a different tent unless they are invited over.
In this case, a student who was suspended from school (and as I understand it, was suspended by his team) had no business being in that tent. It wasn’t his team, I assume he knew nobody on the team, he should not have been at the meet in the first place, and he was carrying a weapon not allowed on school property.
The author of the piece seems to assume that only young black people have special rules for social distancing and other behaviors, and/or have special privileges other races do not have. There are plenty of other ethnic groups with people who agree with the author, and it applies only to their race/ethnic group. And some of them would respond the same way the convicted person in this case did.
We have allowed to people to ‘uncivilize’ large numbers of people in the population, and we as a society see the damage that’s been done every day.
Maybe the author of this piece should step off her ivory tower and rejoin the real world.
So we’re talking about a normal tent, like one you go camping in, and each team owns its own tent and brings it to the stadium for the meet, erecting it in a spot the stadium assigns or approves, and then after the meet the team takes the tent down and takes it home, right? So it was as much private property as is a tent at a camping ground. The owner has the right to use reasonable force to evict trespassers, and entering it for the purpose of committing a crime would be burglary.

Oh look another Black racist trying to justify a young Black man trespassing (not his tent), illegally carrying a weapon (school v state rules), having it open and ready to use in a hidden location (his backpack), provoking a White kid (calling for Metcalf to touch him), and fatally stabbed him as soon as his provocation led to pretext.
The reality is Karmelo had no boundaries, Metcalf was the one who did. The fact this ‘professor’ is using Metcalf’s father’s time of grief as an opportunity to promote herself to the Woke bigots is disgusting, and entirely unsurprising.
Where once it was said “two nations divided by a common language” – meaning Great Britain and the US, now it seems more accurate to say ‘2 nations united only by common geography’ – the entitled, hate driven Woke element, and the traditional American element.
This teacher at Howard is conforming to the now-prevalent pattern that woman are even more ideological and prone to condone violence than men are. So much for feminist claims that women, given they have far less testosterone, would civilize politics and civil dialogue. Just look at the leaders of pro-Hamas demonstrations or anti-ICE riots.
This is an unbelievably cruel statement by this professor – blaming the victim’s parents for the actions of a clearly violent person. I hope that the on-line blow back to this professor and Howard University is intense.
