Over 80,000 Illegal Aliens Have Given Up Asylum Claims During Trump Admin
The report did not indicate if any of the illegal aliens accepted Trump’s offer to self deport to receive cash and a free flight home.
Illegal aliens have chosen to abandon their asylum claims in record numbers since President Donald Trump took office in January 2025, according to The Washington Post.
Data from the Vera Institute of Justice shows that “immigration judges issued more than 80,000 ‘voluntary departure’ orders from January 2025 through March of this year.”
From the report: “The number of people receiving a decision of voluntary departure has risen dramatically since the change in presidential administration—particularly among people who were detained. Judges appointed by the second Trump administration have granted voluntary departure at higher rates than judges with more experience—while still granting orders of removal at comparable rates.”
The illegal aliens cannot have a serious criminal record.

The number of people abandoning their immigration cases is at least seven times as high as the number seen in the last 15 months of the Biden administration, when 11,400 took that option. More than 70 percent of those granted a voluntary departure order during President Donald Trump’s second administration were being held in immigration detention when they made the request, a far higher share than those who departed willingly while Joe Biden was in the White House.
The “voluntary departure” could make it easier for the person to return legally.
“These changes come at the same time as the number of people who are detained and facing deportation is increasing and relatively fewer people are being released from detention,” concluded Vera researchers Jacquelyn Pavilon and Neil Agarwal, as cited in WaPo. “Altogether, Vera’s analysis illuminates how voluntary departure is being used in the second Trump administration to require more people to leave the United States.”

“Biden and [then-Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas] recklessly unleashed millions of unvetted illegal aliens into American communities — and they abused many loopholes to do so,” DHS told WaPo. “President Trump and Secretary [Markwayne] Mullin are now enforcing this law as it was actually written to keep America safe.”

If the Trump administration is successful in further restricting govt benefits to illegals (ie-EBT, health care, college tuition, etc) we may see more and more self-deporting.
Its a slow, painful process, but headed in the right direction.

Well….kinda. Biden let in approx 10 million. So at 200K per month that’s 2.4 million per year x 4 year Presidential term is 9.6 million so almost enough to offset the Biden Admin open borders fiasco.
Unfortunately we didn’t hit 200K per month the first year of Trump 2.0. The count was something like 1.8 million removed. We now need to be hitting nearly 230K per month for every month of the last three years of Trump 2.0 just to keep on track to undo Biden open border policy.
What we really need is workplace enforcement in ruthlessly determined manner erring on the ‘harsh side of strict’ Enforce maximum penalties against folks who choose to hire illegal alien labor. Hound them into prison and drive their business into bankruptcy. Any govt employee who didn’t dot I or cross T in reviewing eligibility for govt benefits should be hammered along with their chain of supervision. No more prevailing climate to ‘turn a blind eye’ pretending not to notice.

The asylum process has been abused, exploited and manipulated by illegal aliens and their Dhimmi-crat enablers/facilitators, for far too long.
If you plot this number on a chart with the 12 to 15 million that were allowed in it doesn’t even get of the bottom line of the chart it is so small a number. It’s better than zero but not by much.

Asylum needs to end. Period, in totality, no exceptions.
The entire illegal nonsense rests on ‘asylum claims’ that intentionally overwhelm the system.
The system is not working as intended, it just needs to be ended.
Nah keep ‘asylum’ as an availability BUT require the petitioner to provide the rejection paperwork from every Nation along the way in between AND allow the USA to act as a ‘broker’ to find them a new home in another Nation even with those docs. So when petitioner is able to provide proof they applied but were rejected all along the route we can put them on a flight to the Democratic Republic of the Congo which generously granted them asylum. Everyone is a winner.
