Stabbing of Two Jewish Men in London Declared a ‘Terrorist Incident’
One man is in his 70s, and the other is in his 30s. The stabbing left them seriously wounded.
Authorities have declared the stabbing of two Jewish men in London a terrorist incident.
“This has now formally been declared a terrorist incident,” announced Laurence Taylor, head of counter terrorism policing. “Our highly specialized teams of officers are working with the Metropolitan Police to progress this investigation quickly and establish exactly what has happened.
Taylor added: “We’re also working with our partners in the security services to ensure we have a full intelligence picture, and one of the lines of inquiry is whether this attack was deliberately targeting the Jewish community in London.”
One man is in his 70s, and the other is in his 30s. Chief rabbi Ephraim Mirvis identified the victims as Nachman Moshe ben Chaya Sarah and Moshe Ben Baila.
The stabbing left them seriously wounded.

Police have arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with the stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green, a heavily Jewish neighborhood in London.
Videos show a man attacking one of the victims at a bus stop as he put on his kippah.
The other attack happened as the victim walked down the street.

The local Shomrim emergency response organization, which serves Jewish areas, made the first public report of the incident, saying it had responded immediately and detained the suspect.
Shortly thereafter, it said, police arrived and assisted in subduing him.
The victims were initially treated by the Hatzola ambulance service, Shomrim said. The Jewish community medics also treated the suspect, according to reports.
The attack took place some 300 yards away from the site of an arson attack earlier this month targeting four Hatzola ambulances parked outside a synagogue.
Met Commissioner Mark Rowley told the press he understands why Jewish Londoners feel unsafe and afraid.
However, people yelled, “shame on you” as Rowley made his remarks.

Eli V, a friend of the younger victim, told the BBC that his “wife is scared to leave home.”
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch declared the safety of Jewish people a “national emergency.”
“Jewish people in our country are under constant attack,” said Badenoch. “This is no longer a growing pattern. There is an epidemic of violence against Jewish people.”

At the time of his acquittal in state court he wasn’t admitting to have stabbed him. He claimed that the police who witnessed the victim identify him to them, and who found the knife on him, were lying. He only admitted it many years later.
At the federal trial the only charge was violating the victim’s civil rights, because murder is not a federal crime. The federal jury didn’t believe his claims and convicted him.

this appears to be a targeted attack(s) by a damned lunatic–these officers were dealing with an armed individual who had already harmed two innocents and was refusing to surrender his weapon or comply with verbal commands–the officers were in immediate danger themselves as were several proximate innocents should the officers NOT take action–clearly self/public defense as their inaction would expose themselves/others to serious/mortal injury–regards their method, was actually impressed with their self-control and discretion–have you ever had to disarm an opponent threatening you with an edged weapon ?–come on

A counterinsurgency is a military operation not a law enforcement operation. Way different set of tactics and RoE. Warrants don’t exist as one example. Standard of evidence and probable cause are irrelevant. What matters is ‘enough’ Intel (not a civilian judicial evidentiary standard) to make the target worthwhile.
That said, even (especially) in a counterinsurgency the goal is to end the insurgency. It doesn’t mean be soft but it does mean don’t engage in wanton killing. Most folks get upset if they see their family, friends, neighbors getting killed out of hand by sadistic goons. So avoid that. Do what is necessary but not what is unnecessary IF you’re engaged in a counterinsurgency. I suppose if the goal isn’t a successful counterinsurgency but instead killing off a population you see as undesirable and irredeemable then wanton killing, torture and other extreme measure would do….but that’s not a counterinsurgency… that’s genocide. Very distinct difference.

Once the clock strikes midnight and Cinderella’s illusory carriage turns back into its normal state of a pumpkin aka the illusion of the thin veneer of civil order is stripped away and we revert to our natural Hobbesian state ….things will get very real, very quickly. As you suggest the choice of residence as that happens (really a bit in advance) is gonna be a critical determining factor in whether folks can survive the first harrowing days of disorder. Some communities will be largely insulated from a collapse b/c they still retain high trust social bonds. The places which lack those bonds of voluntary cooperative local problem solving and a more/less united sense of community interest will suffer. Hopefully we never face that and if we do the folks ‘behind the lines’ so to speak will abandon nostalgia and depart those places in enough time to establish themselves in a better community.
