Students at UConn Launch Petition Urging University to Declare ICE ‘Unwelcome’ on Campus
“It has garnered 2,098 signatures of its 2,100 goal at the time of publication.”
Haven’t these students heard? Protesting ICE is yesterday’s news. Protesting for Iran is the new hotness.

UConn students launch petition urging university to declare ICE ‘unwelcome’ on campus
Leftist students recently circulated a petition calling on the University of Connecticut to ban ICE from campus.
The petition, sponsored by “UConn Students in Defense of Immigrant Communities,” calls on the university to issue a public message “explicitly declaring that ICE and other federal enforcement agencies are unwelcome on all UConn campuses.”
It has garnered 2,098 signatures of its 2,100 goal at the time of publication.
In addition to calling for a ban on ICE’s presence on campus, the students demand more employment, scholarships, and financial aid for “immigrant students” and the establishment of a university legal fund for illegal immigrants.
Stephenie Reitz, a spokesperson for the university, provided Campus Reform with university guidance on how students are to interact with ICE, published on Feb. 12. The guidance tells students to call a university hotline if ICE agents request to enter a private space, but also makes clear that they have a right to be there.
“It is important to be aware that it is not unusual for external law enforcement agencies, including the Connecticut State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to come to a UConn campus,” the guidance says. “Further, their presence is entirely permissible.”
“For that reason, this guidance is not intended to suggest that external law enforcement, including immigration officials, should be stopped and questioned if they are in public spaces on campus,” it continues.
In response to the petition’s demand that the university not disclose student information to ICE, Reitz told Campus Reform that the school already has a legal obligation not to do so under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
“UConn will continue to uphold FERPA and deny requests for student information that are not accompanied by a judicial warrant, court-ordered subpoena, student consent, or otherwise required by law,” Reitz asserted.

UConn – At least 5 pre-college participation trophies required to be admitted.
Likely the same students who appear on the overpass on I-84 holding “Free Palestine” and “Release the Files” banners during commute traffic hours.
Higher education on display, heh.
