Cartoonist Tony Branco Honored At Hillsdale College

Tony, who was a Legal Insurrection cartoonist from 2014-2022, certainly deserves these accolades, and we’re so happy he is receiving this recognition.

Tony Branco was a longtime cartoonist for Legal Insurrection (2014-2022), and a good friend of the blog. You can see hundreds of the cartoons he did for Legal Insurrection at our A.F. Branco Tag.

Throughout that time period Tony also published at other websites and through syndication, at his own website (Comically Incorrect) and through books of his cartoons (here and here).

We would run an annual look back at Tony’s best cartoons of the year:

Those were the days, my friend, we thought they’d never end. But they did. Tony left with our sincerest best wishes and hope that he would continue to thrive and succeed.

And he has. Tony was recently honored at a Hillsdale College event on February 3, 2026, as part of the Journalism and American Democracy series:

Today polls indicate that the corporate media, once all powerful, is less trusted than Congress, and a new information landscape is coming into view. This third CCA of the 2025-2026 academic year will consider the purpose and importance of a free press, standards of honest journalism, and recent changes in the delivery of news and opinion.

Tony certainly deserves these accolades, and we’re so happy he is receiving this recognition.

The Hillsdale Collegian student newspaper wrote up the event, Can American journalism be saved?

Political cartoonist A.F. Branco, in a talk titled “Make America Laugh Again” Tuesday afternoon, used his cartoons to echo earlier criticisms of legacy media outlets.

“MSNBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, NPR, The New York Times, and the Washington Post, with their liberal bias, are absolutely the reason we have a very vibrant alternative media today,” Branco said. “Legacy media just isn’t trusted anymore.”

Tony even got some media attention:

Here is the video of Tony’s speech, if you look carefully you will see some Legal Insurrection Cartoons.

I miss his contributions here. I mean, I know I could go find his work elsewhere, but I try to limit my sites to help my sanity.
