Rep. Elise Stefanik Running for New York Governor
“Kathy Hochul is the Worst Governor in America,” Stefanik wrote on X.
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) has thrown her hat into the 2026 New York governor’s race.
“Kathy Hochul is the Worst Governor in America,” Stefanik wrote on X.
Stefanik highlighted the catastrophes that have occurred not only under Hochul but also over the years under Democrat control.
Stefanik added on X: “Under her failed leadership, New York is the most unaffordable state in the nation with the highest taxes, highest energy, utilities, rent, and grocery bills. When New Yorkers were looking for leadership from our Governor, she bent the knee to the raging Defund the Police, Tax Hiking Communist causing catastrophe for New York families.”

Stefanik jumped into her accomplishments about halfway through the video, reminding viewers that she took on university presidents who brushed aside antisemitism on campuses and battled “woke insanity” in schools.
Stefanik would be the first Republican governor in the Empire State in 20 years.
According to The New York Post, Stefanik’s team includes “New York-native strategists and staff in key regions — as polls have started showing her neck and neck against the Democratic incumbent in a hypothetical showdown.”
Sorry, but the claims raised my eyebrows, so I had to check them out—it’s hard to top Hawaii and California. The latest rankings place New York at #45 in affordability. California is by far the worst.
Hawaii edges out New York in terms of tax rates.
Hawaii and California have the highest rent, with New York coming in fourth.
When it comes to energy rates, Hawaii and California take the cake.
It shouldn’t surprise that Hawaii and Alaska have the highest grocery bills. I’m actually not seeing New York in the top five. According to this map, Oklahoma has higher grocery prices.

She’s got about as much chance as a republican becoming Guvna of California.
Mebbe, but it will be fun to watch her eviscerate Hochul.
Perhaps, but current polling has her virtually tied with the incumbent harridan. I can tell you that she (Hochul) is despised in a lot of places in western NY.
Maybe so, but she is up for sainthood in the city that provides far more votes than WNY.
That’s not necessarily true, given Lee Zeldin’s performance in the last election.
Stefanik will need to carefully craft her messaging and delivery, though.
Would be cool to see the lich locked back in the crypt
I hope she holds on to her congressional seat, we need it
I doubt Oklahoma has higher food prices, I doubt that very much
She could run simultaneously for congress and governor, and then give up her seat if she wins governor. But it would be very unusual and would probably cause some people not to vote for her in either race.
The news industry, being a fully-owned subsidiary of the Democrat Party, would portray it as her not being fully committed to the governor’s race, and also as thumbing her nose at her constituents, asking them to vote for her while hoping not to have to serve them, and to make them come out again to elect her replacement.
Mandami will fix the affordability crisis by forcing all the high-paid jobs out of state.
There is nothing you can do in NYC that you cant do cheaper anywhere else.
If you instead rate by personal ichor, it would be a title bout between Hochul and Whitmer.
Prediction:
Everyone north of Westchester County will vote for her but between the communists in NYC and the democrat fraud machine, she’ll lose handily.
That’s not to say that she’s wrong about Hochel – she’s not – or that she’d do a great job – she would – but the rot is just too deep.
There is a misery index for the US, but I can’t find one that rates on a State-by-State basis. State indexes on single issues (like housing or employment) can be found, but none are current. (Most current are those dealing with inflation, but they date from the Biden administration.)
A lot can and will happen in a year. Stefanik is head and shoulders above Hochul and people should notice what a lightweight the now governor is when they stand across from one another.
“It’s the economy stupid”
New Yorkers will either blame their governor or the president.
Is there a recent precedent from New York City to see how this will end up?
Prices of every day items (i.e. groceries) have gone up.
Unless prices start going down there is very good reason to think Republicans are in danger in purple states and little reason to keep thinking about flipping blue states.
Reusing the same trick of “the following metrics will not be counted when discussing inflation” that failed Biden will not be saving us next year or 2028.
Prices have gone up with the economy going nowhere because of the tariffs. We shouldn’t still be in the Biden economy.
Promising to restore the pre-Biden economy was the central promise Republicans gave and people have noticed that hasn’t happened.
Everything without exception is secondary to the economy during elections.
NYC should have to pay a surcharge to the rest of the state and the country for everything as an arrogance tax. They produce very little physical goods given their size and look down on everyone else that supplies them.
I agree.
However we have the unenviable position of being the incumbent party in a repeat of the Biden economy.
People hated the Biden administration over exactly the same grocery store issue that is sinking our side right now.
Will there be enough people of any political persuasion to be there to vote for her?
