Trump Threatens to Send Tomahawks to Ukraine if Putin Doesn’t Stop

“Do they want to have tomahawks going in their direction? I don’t think so.”

President Donald Trump once again threatened to send Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine if Putin doesn’t stop the war.

Trump made the remarks on Air Force One late Sunday night, even saying he spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy:

They need Patriots very badly. They’d like to have tomahawks. That’s a step up. I might have to speak to Russia to be honest with you about tomahawks.

Do they want to have tomahawks going in their direction? I don’t think so. I think I might speak to Russia about that. In all fairness, I told that to President Zelensky, because tomahawks are a new step of aggression.

Look, if this war is not going to get settled, I’m going to send them tomahawks.

Trump also stressed that Ukraine has to do more to defend itself.

The president wants the war to end. Tomahawk missiles are beasts:

Tomahawk, American-made low-flying strategic guided missile that may be launched from naval ships or submarines to strike targets on land. It flies at low altitudes to strike fixed targets, such as communication and air-defense sites, in high-risk environments where manned aircraft may be vulnerable to surface-to-air missiles.

The Tomahawk is a long-range, unmanned weapon with an accuracy of about 5 metres (16 feet). The 5.6-metre- (18.4-foot-) long missile has a range of up to approximately 2,400 km (about 1,500 miles) and can travel as fast as 885 km (550 miles) per hour.

Tomahawks are launched vertically from ships, but they can be launched horizontally from torpedo tubes on attack submarines or from external launchers attached to a submarine’s hull. The missile is powered by a solid propellant during its launch phase. Thereafter it is powered by a turbofan engine that does not emit much heat, which makes infrared detection difficult. It can also elude detection by radar because it has a small cross section and operates at low altitudes.

Zelenskyy also posted about the conversation:

I have just spoken with @POTUS – for the second time in two days – and today’s conversation was also very productive.

Yesterday, we agreed on a set of topics to discuss today, and we covered all the aspects of the situation: defense of life in our country, strengthening our capabilities – in air defense, resilience, and long-range capabilities. We also discussed many details related to the energy sector. President Trump is well informed about everything that is happening.

We agreed to continue our dialogue, and our teams are doing their preparations. Thank you!

Tomahawks? On Indigenous Americans Day? How uncouth! How un-PC !!!

The thought of Pocahontas Warren flying towards a target at 550 mph is enough to frighten even the most intractable adversary to the bargaining table.

Surrender, Vladimir! (Written in the sky Wizard of Oz style)

Don’t we have to rename the missiles? Something like; non-binary phallic peace-keepers.

To increase the killing with no benefit to either side, simply send Tomahawks to Ukraine.

Actions always speak louder than words.

As been said many times, Trump is transactional. One does or doesn’t do this, then Trump does that. Trump is fully aware of the escalation. The current stalemate is unsustainable. We can’t force China or India to stop buying Russian oil. If Ukraine gets Tomahawks, Russia will respond. We pray that the response is toward peace.

Does Ukraine have the naval capacity to launch tomahawks?

    Virginia42 in reply to MTED. | October 13, 2025 at 1:04 pm

Not really. Or ground launched either. This is not a bright idea.

      ztakddot in reply to Virginia42. | October 13, 2025 at 4:29 pm

The ground launch version comes on a truck. The Ukraine seem to be perfectly capable of adapting tomahawks to their equipment if we give them to them. Of course they have their own cruise missile codenamed Neptune. Its not as if they actually need tomahawks provided they can manufacture enough of their home grown variety which may not be a given.

I wish Trump would stop making threats. The way I understand the rules of war, anyone supplying a belligerent with weapons and telemetry can be viewed as an adversary. What is DJT going to do if Putin shoots down an AWAC? If America wants to go to war over Ukraine–a bigger war than the current proxy war–then let’s talk it out in the halls of congress.

I am uncertain about my feelings on this threat, but one thing I am certain of is Congress is disfunctional and should never be involved with any serious decisions. Can anyone imagine Crockett, Hirono, Duckworth, Schiff, Jefferies, waters, Swalwell, and many others making any rational decision? They ALL vote as their leader tells them. Look at who their leaders are!

Putin is not expanding the war, that much is very clear from how well his forces are doing against Ukraine.

    TopSecret in reply to Titan28. | October 13, 2025 at 7:29 pm

Putin is smart and he’s not dumb enough to touch an American plane/ship because he knows the entire might of the US military would come after Russia and him personally. As diminished as Russia’s military is, we could bomb every one of Putin’s palaces and be gone before he knew what hit him.

waiting for the woke to cry about the name of the missle

There’s a launch platform problem for Tomahawks.

USA should stop funding Ukraine.

Ukraine has been doomed to lose from day one.

From day one, the West refused to supply boots on the ground.

Ukraine is virtually out of boots on the ground.

USA supplying more $$$ only means more Ukraine deaths and destruction.

Russia believes its existence is at risk.

Russia will not end the war until it achieves its goals.

From Steak & Shake?
(Oh, wait, that’s takhomasak…) 🙂

Bad idea. It would be an escalation by us. Also, don’t tomahawks use either photorecon or gps for guidance? Wouldn’t that mean that our systems would be employed to deliver them to targets in Russia? Like I said bad idea.

xleatherneck in reply to ztakddot. | October 13, 2025 at 1:29 pm

That is exactly what he’s hoping Putin will think.

He likely did the same thing to HAMAS. End the war and hand over the hostages or we will obliterate every last one of you SOB’s

      Currently listening to Checkmate Berlin.

Russians respond to one thing and one thing only.

I don’t think much has changed on that front. Trump should punish the living hell out of India on the visa / outsourcing front over the oil deal…. doesn’t help that Europe is run by idiots.

ztakddot in reply to Andy. | October 13, 2025 at 4:31 pm

H1Bs to India killed well paying jobs not to mentioned raises in this country. It show much distaste american politicians have for american workers – even those in high tech.

      JohnSmith100 in reply to xleatherneck. | October 13, 2025 at 4:52 pm

And now that the hostages have been released, obliterate the rest of the terrorist and their supporters.

Elizabeth Warren says heap big wampum needed in budget to pay for tomahawks.

To be clear, this is not a threat on Trump’s part. This is a talking point tossed out to the press for them to chase, much like a shiny red ball. Endless stories will be written about the missile, the history of it, the accuracy, the difficulty of getting it used in-theatre. In reality, we’re not going to send Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. But we’re going to talk about it, make the Russians think about how dangerous it could be to push Ukraine into a corner, consider just how many billions of dollars worth of damage could be done to power networks, gas works, railroads, pipelines, etc… with one conventional salvo. It’s a position of strength, as opposed to the normal wringing-of-hands and declarations of ‘nothing can be done’ that the Dems prefer.

So Trump hasn’t sent missiles, shells, ammunition and tanks to Ukraine?

If Putin is even slightly rational he is thinking about this threat very seriously.

Every deployment method I see listed is from submarines. As far as I’m aware, Ukraine doesn’t have much of a Navy and it’s not very useful in the current conflict.

ztakddot in reply to Ironclaw. | October 13, 2025 at 3:13 pm

They can be deployed from just about anywhere. There are a large number of variants.

hosspuller in reply to Ironclaw. | October 13, 2025 at 3:40 pm

From Wikipedia: Over a dozen variants and upgraded versions have been developed since the original design, including air-, sub-, and ground-launched configurations with both conventional and nuclear armaments.

Remember how Ukraine has adapted US ordnance to Soviet aircraft. Given a Tomahawk launch pod, I’m sure they can figure how to use it.

henrybowman in reply to Ironclaw. | October 13, 2025 at 8:04 pm

They seem to be competent enough for their demolition frogmen fishermen to bomb pipelines.

I believe this is a mistake and the consequence are unpredictable. A better way would be to tell all free Western nations to stop all trade with China and India. It might cause pain domestically but would crush the two rogue nations and the threat of a nuclear exchange would diminish. We and most other nations can survive better than those two nations if all trade ended abruptly.

HarvardPhD in reply to inspectorudy. | October 14, 2025 at 1:47 pm

And how do you propose we implement said trade embargo? By threatening to attack our allies instead of Putin? That would bring about a peaceful solution wouldn’t it? (sarcasm, in case you couldn’t guess)

I disagree with the President with supplying Ukraine with any arms. I think Trump is trying to push Putin back into negotiating but Trump should give it up. The USA and NATO should stay out of the Ukraine-Russia War.

ztakddot in reply to JG. | October 13, 2025 at 6:27 pm

I’m on the side of giving Ukraine obsolete weapons that we would otherwise mothball but not frontline weapons like Tomahawks. I wouldn’t have given them extended range MLRS rockets. I was ok with us okaying the transfer of f16 which is a great plane and still viable but also pretty old from nato countries. Also the transfer of older model abrahms tanks, This creates domestic problems for putin as he fights is war and I have no problem with that.

The Europeans need to take the lead in supplying Ukraine and they haven’t because this is primarily a European issue, If they aren’t going to why should we.
