Trump Escalator Incident Raises Security Alarms at UN

“When you put all of this together, it doesn’t look like a coincidence to me”

While Trump’s speech at the United Nations was powerful, the seemingly small snafus that occurred during his visit were actually outrageous, not to mention dangerous.

The failure of the escalator put President Trump and the First Lady in danger. The technical issues with the microphones and teleprompter were petty, but still an outrage.

Susan Crabtree of Real Clear Politics writes in the tweet below:

Why did the @SecretService allow Pres. Trump and Melania to get stalled on an escalator today at the @UN General Assembly before his speech without moving quickly to protect the leader of the free world and his wife?

The stalled escalator with President Trump and first lady Melania stuck on it was a classic set up for an assasination hit, yet the Secret Service barely noticed and didn’t pull POTUS and FLOTUS off the suddenly stopped stairs, Secret Service sources warn.

So while Trump and his @TheJusticeDept, @AGPamBondi, and the @SecretService celebrate Ryan Routh’s conviction, the president’s security team with its ZERO-FAIL mission need to be ever-vigilant.

Today could have been a horrible split screen.

Someone at the UN is claiming that the escalator thing was just an accident:

“The safety mechanism is designed to prevent people or objects accidentally being caught and stuck in or pulled into the gearing. The videographer may have inadvertently triggered the safety function described above,” the statement said.

“In an effort to document their arrival, a videographer from the US delegation stepped on to the escalator ahead of the President and First Lady. As the videographer, who was traveling backwards up the escalator reached the top , the First Lady, followed by President Trump, each mounted the steps at the bottom. At that moment (9:50am), the escalator came to a stop.”

Karoline Leavitt chimed in on this.

She elaborated on this point during an appearance on FOX News, via CBS News:

“When you put all of this together, it doesn’t look like a coincidence to me,” Leavitt said on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime.” “And if we find that these were U.N. staffers who were purposefully trying to trip up, literally trip up, the president and the first lady of the United States, well, there better be accountability for those people.”

However, a U.N. spokesman said Tuesday the escalator may have suddenly stopped because of a videographer from the U.S. delegation who can be seen walking ahead of the president and first lady on the escalator, seemingly to film their arrival.

Maybe somebody stole the escalator as something symbolic. We should all remember that President Trump came down an escalator to announce his presidential candidacy.

The UN reports that it was a member of the US delegation.

Of *course* it does. And the US media run with it.

It happens every time I go up an escalator backward.
Instantly stops.
Yep. Try it.
And that always affects my teleprompter.
