Sen. Tammy Duckworth Calls Trump a ‘Dictator Wannabe’ Then Says We Have to Tone Down Rhetoric

Sen. Tammy Duckworth Calls Trump a ‘Dictator Wannabe’ Then Says We Have to Tone Down Rhetoric

“So, if you truly wanted to celebrate the army’s 250th birthday, then spend the money the correct way, not with a parade for a tinpot dictator wannabe, which is what Donald Trump is.”

Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) appeared on MSNBC over the weekend and talked trash about Trump for three solid minutes, calling him a wannabe dictator. Then, when the host brought up the recent shooting of two Democrats in Minnesota, she suddenly claimed that we all need to tone down the rhetoric.

Maybe Duckworth should lead by example and begin by examining her own choice of words.

NewsBusters reports (emphasis is theirs):

Lemire started with this Democrat-friendly spin: “The vast, vast majority of these ‘No Kings’ protests were very peaceful and the crowds were huge. White House officials tell me that they, the crowd at the military parade, not what they had hoped, certainly smaller than expected. What are your thoughts as a veteran about that spectacle we saw this weekend about the military, the army being honored for 250th birthday, but also falling on President Trump’s birthday.”

Yeah, this was not about the army’s 250th birthday. You wanted to celebrate the army’s 250th birthday and spend $60 million. You could have spent it on tuition for our troops. Funding for military families. You could feed all the homeless veterans in this country. So, if you truly wanted to celebrate the army’s 250th birthday, then spend the money the correct way, not with a parade for a tinpot dictator wannabe, which is what Donald Trump is. I felt that it was obscene to have done that at a time when we’re trying to cut funding for V.A. when we’re firing people from their jobs in federal government. And frankly, we’re the greatest military in the face of the Earth. We don’t need a parade to prove it…

Ironically, Duckworth added later when asked about the political murders in Minnesota that “I represent everybody in the state of Illinois. We should be working to bring down the level of rhetoric, the level of targeting of one another. And that starts with every one of us that’s elected. But it also starts at the White House.”

Note how MSNBC host Jonathan Lemire sets up questions for her like a tee-ball coach:

Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota is doing the same thing. After months of calling Trump a dictator, and suggesting that Democrats need to get meaner, while addressing the shooting in his state, he’s suddenly talking about how we have to find ways to a deal with our political differences.

Who is this ‘we’ that these Democrats keep talking about? All of the inciting rhetoric is coming from them.

On a side note, I didn’t see a whole lot of bitching and complaining when Black Mamba referred to Governor Greg Abbot as Hot Wheels.

But I guess since he is a white male, landing gears are optional to the Tammy Duckworth celebrants.

I think the comments about handicaps are detestable, but the lack of commentary about it when Crock of Shit made that reference is more telling.

That’s exactly correct. Duckworth has my respect for taking an RPG round in Iraq, but that’s about it. Her politics and her rhetoric are abysmal, and she’s earned every bit of opprobrium she’s got coming to her.
As far as JR goes, he’s not here in good faith. He never has been. The editors’ willingness to put up with his semiliterate garbage is a mystery.

Plenty of people here made comments about Abbot and the hot wheels comments by that angry fat black congress woman (I forget which one). My comment was that Abbott should take embrace the comment, Someone else added he should put racing stripes on his wheel chair, Everyone slammed the bitch who made the comment except for the usual suspects.

The irony of Sen Duckworth’s remarks was completely lost on the interviewer. He did not take the opportunity to ask, “In light of your calling for a lowering of the rhetoric, do you wish to restate some of your characterizations of President Trump such as calling him a ‘wannabe dictator’?” Alas, there was not such awareness.

TargaGTS in reply to Arnoldn. | June 17, 2025 at 12:21 pm

🎯Exactly this. To 99% of the media, whatever is said about Trump, however abusive the rhetoric his political opponents use, it’s all perfectly fine because they (almost) universally believe he’s a ”tinpot, wannabe dictator’ and therefore deserves everything that’s coming his way. “It’s not incendiary when we do it!”

Yo, Tammy. Stop trying to validate so many negative stereotypes, will ya?

Always interesting to see how quickly the establishment political.class closes ranks against all comers when they feel the pressure. Not so much when ordinary Citizens deal with rampant crimes and revolving door prisons, targeting Jewish Students on elite campus or protests and threats to SCOTUS homes or multiple assassination plots and one shots fired attempt v Trump. Somehow until the rhetoric and violence began to impact establishment legislators all the ‘take to the streets’, ‘get in their face’ antics weren’t a big deal …. just free speech…and protest is a vital part of democracy.

Sen Kevin Cramer R, ND on Fox whining about increasing police patrols at politician’s homes, sitting Cops outside and sending the FBI to see folks who ‘cross the line’ (undefined) from anger, outrage to ‘threats’ (undefined) in online comments to Legislators. Sen Lankford R, OK saying similar things.

No one should be making any threats to harm anyone else, nor their Families nor their homes, businesses nor other property. However, IMO, legislators should not be afforded greater individual protections than their constituents. Maybe an additional LEO drive by for homes is warranted. Otherwise…they have Govt security on their office buildings and now they are able to use campaign contributions for increased security. When the same members are passing statutes to put criminals in prison and keep them there, stop the releasing serial/career criminals on bail, put down the mobs on our streets, round up every illegal alien and depart them, fully endorse 2A for National Constitutional Carry so law abiding Citizens can defend themselves ….then I’ll be more concerned about security of legislative members but not until they first demonstrate at least as much concern via legislation for their constituents.

Meh. I don’t have much crime to worry about here in rural Alabama. Hopefully everyone is making similar choices in the locations they choose to reside by prioritizing safety/security above other concerns.

The vile Dhimmi-crat apparatchiks piss away (and, embezzle) taxpayers’ money in the most obscenely and brazenly profligate manner possible, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, and, when #47 spends a trivial amount on a 250th anniversary celebration, they suddenly and hypocritically wax frugal and thrifty.

These reprobates are pure scum.

Yeah, instead of wasting 60 mil on a parade to show how special we think our boys in uniform are, we can promise that 60mil to vet tuition or housing or some other thing that has ‘vet’ in it. Then, when no one’s paying attention, we can divert that 60mil to pet causes for the military, like trans acceptance, body positivity and antiracism.

DaveGinOly in reply to Azathoth. | June 17, 2025 at 12:49 pm

    1. The high end estimate of the cost of the parade is $45M.
    2. Every military parade, flyby, parachute jump, etc. is a form of training. It exercises the military’s ability to designate and prepare assets for a mission, to move and deploy them, to set and remain on a schedule, to assemble and deploy all assets necessary to support the main mission, etc. Even when the mission is “just” a display, like a parade, if you weren’t in the military you have no idea of the effort that’s necessary nor how similar that effort is to an actual deployment for a real military mission (as it is the goal of all training missions to be similar, if not identical, to an actual mission). There is no “waste” here.

ztakddot in reply to DaveGinOly. | June 17, 2025 at 4:07 pm

I believe what you’ve written. Despite that I didn’t like the idea of a parade. Communist and socialist governments do parades. We shouldn’t except when celebrating the veterans returning from a large war or police action. I don’t like the optics. My opinion.

CommoChief in reply to DaveGinOly. | June 17, 2025 at 4:35 pm

True dat! I’ve been responsible for planning, organizing and directing the return of a single Division from Iraq to Germany…the movements from airports, the week+ of ‘reintegration’ training, standing up the empty barracks, getting new housing for married dependants, setting up vehicle registration and new ration cards, overseeing the refurbishment of the Div HQ Buildings …it was.one huge pain in the ass…. but I learned a bunch of things I didn’t previously know about how Garrison operates and how to work with the DoD Civilians to figure out a way to get them to willingly v grudgingly support all of it.

…oh lets not leave out the the actual welcome ceremony….that was less than an hour in length (40 minutes) but (in a Div HQ) had the Div CSM, all the various SGM and sundry COL and LTC offering ‘guidance’ and suggestions for ‘improvement’ at the the leaders rehearsal, then again at full rehearsal then no kidding on the day of event about 15 minutes prior with Troops in formation some SGM is.still putting his nose in. This.was.after the full plan had already been sent forward, reviewed and apprived by Div CSM/All SGM, the Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief, both Assistant Div CDR and the CG a couple months prior. I definitely memorized the ‘book’ for drill & ceremonies to fend off the ‘helpful suggestions’ and learned how to tactfully tell COL and CSM/SGM to STFU and go away while getting them to do it.

henrybowman in reply to DaveGinOly. | June 17, 2025 at 6:47 pm

I bet Trump spent less tax money on that parade than the Democratic Party spent on the LA ICE riots. Or even the national No Kings circle-jerk.

peterlmorris | June 17, 2025 at 1:02 pm

First, no one named “Duckworth” should be running their mouths about anything. That’s a ridiculous name.

Second, no Democrats should ever lecture anyone on how to spend money. They’ve done nothing but waste trillions of dollars buying votes for six decades.

She can go fly a kite.

The media and Tammy Duckworth know the 250th Army celebration was not a parade for Trump. There were events all day long, was to honor all who serve and served in the Army, educate the public, and recruit. The event was planned long before Trump became present. If Kamala won, the event would have still happened. It had nothing to do with Trump. Their comments are so disrespectful to our military and heroes who serve and sacrifice for our country. Maybe all the money spent on the “No Kings” protests should have been given to the homeless.

“a tinpot dictator wannabe”
Hey, only using the framework Democrats established with Biden.
You don’t like the rules? Don’t create them.

This is why tens of millions of Americans absolutely despise democrats; their hypocrisy, lies, and gaslighting are just unbearable. This hypocrite Duckworth claiming we need to ‘tone down the rhetoric’ and that Trump is a ‘dictator wannabe’ are perfect examples. The vile left wing rhetoric almost got Trump assassinated twice; it also caused wannabe assassins to go after republicans practicing for a softball game, and conservative supreme court justices. The left openly approves of the ‘mostly peaceful’ riots their base regular partake in. And the Biden regime colluded with the media and the NIH, to silence anyone who tried to post information in social media that challenged the talking points of the regime. This regime also targeted Trump, Trump supporters, Catholics, and parents at school board meetings. And yet, here Duckworth sits, with the audacity to tell Trump to ‘tone down the rhetoric’.

Tone down the rhetoric? Pretty rich coming from a Dem.
