Trump Administration Lowers Funding Boom on Harvard: “A bloodbath”
“even after the funding freeze, many researchers held out hope that the freeze would be lifted or their particular projects would be exempted”

So far, 2025 has been a rough year for Harvard. Now that the new Trump administration is in place, business as usual is over. The media keeps trying to frame this as Trump trying to bend higher education to his will, when in reality, all the Trump administration is trying to do is end the antisemitism and other civil rights violations that have been happening on college campuses.
Harvard is a school that sets trends in higher education. Whether they like it or not, other schools look at them to see how to act and the Trump administration is clearly making an example of them.
Harvard has already lost a significant amount of funding in this feud, and now they could lose more.
The Boston Globe reports:
‘A bloodbath’: Trump administration moves to terminate scores of federal grants at Harvard
In yet another escalation of its fight against higher education, the Trump administration has moved to terminate scores of research grants at Harvard University and its medical school, imperiling dozens of research projects and potentially upending the futures of young scientists.
Harvard researchers who rely on federal grants to study cancer, infectious diseases and a broad range of other topics began receiving termination notices en masse on Thursday from a number of federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, the US Department of Defense and the US Department of Energy, according to emails shared with the Globe.
The termination notices threaten tens of millions of dollars in research funding for Harvard and affect a broad swath of the university’s scientific community, including graduate students and postdoctoral researchers who are dependent on federal funding for income.
Harvard researchers have been bracing for a large wave of termination notices since the Trump administration moved in mid-April to freeze $2.2 billion in grants and contracts. Yet even after the funding freeze, many researchers held out hope that the freeze would be lifted or their particular projects would be exempted.
It’s not just about funding.
Ed Morrissey of Hot Air points to a new report from the New York Times that suggests people at Harvard are even worried about possible criminal charges:
The investigations of Harvard’s policies and practices have thus far involved grants and other federal subsidies, along with potential civil liability for racial and religious discrimination.
According to the New York Times today, though, the concern over criminal liabilities has begun to prey on the minds of Harvard officials.
Harvard has basked in acclaim from White House critics for fighting back so far. After Mr. Trump threatened the school’s federal funding, Harvard sued the administration, and legal experts said the university has a strong case.
But behind closed doors, several senior officials at Harvard and on its top governing board have acknowledged they are in an untenable crisis. Even if Harvard quickly wins in court, they have determined, the school will still face wide-ranging funding problems and continuing investigations by the administration.
Some university officials even fear that the range of civil investigations could turn into full-blown criminal inquiries.
Even Bill Ackman, who has very moderate views, is siding with Trump in this battle, and as we and others have pointed out, even with their massive endowment, Harvard cannot win a prolonged fight with the federal government.
Harvard needs to drop the ‘resistance’ act and return to its roots.

I’m looking for more of “an amputation”.
But a bloodbath is a good start.
Harvard needs to return to dead roots.
Force every med student, researcher, doctoral, post-doctoral, educator, resident, fellow, and other credential seeking asshat to go elsewhere. Upend their education. Force them to seek transfer credit, make Harvard the pariah of education where no one will ever consider them for an education.
Then follow suit with Yale and other “Ivy League” school.
Scorched earth and salted ground.
I like that.
Add something to this” every judge, state attorney, DA, congressman, or Senator with a Harvard or Yale degree gets tossed out on their ear.
Maybe do that with lawyer types from all of the ivies.
One thing I believe must be clear, people DO NOT to Harvard for an education, but for connections. In the past the Ivy League was the place you sent your kids for the best education. Now it will give you a link to the bureaucrats, company officials, etc that are bleeding this country dry.
A “strategic partitioning.”
Like they used to do with four horses, four ropes, and a whip.
Gee, that’s too bad. Sob…sob.
No funding for science at Harvard? Then the scientists must leave Harvard and go to the funding.
To wit: Harvard isn’t the only place scientific research can be done.
Also: No Pope ever graduated from Harvard.
Blood bath at Harvard.
Harvard is rotten. It’s either dead or dying. The students are Zombies. You can’t get blood from a turnip.
I envision Harvard as being like that famous piano company based in New York. Lots of reputation, justly earned way back in the past.
But, the world has passed them by, and there are equal or better but with lower bragging rights at cocktail parties.
“What’s a Steinway, Alex?”
(About 1200 pounds.)
Globe used the B-word. Insurrection! 4 AM raids!
waiting on a district judge to rule Trump can’t do this in
3. 2. 1
Response to a district judge: “You made your ruling, now seek to enforce it.”
“The [federal grant] termination notices threaten tens of millions of dollars in research funding for Harvard and affect a broad swath of the university’s scientific community, including graduate students and postdoctoral researchers who are dependent on federal funding for income.”
“Tens of millions of dollars” for an academic institution sitting on a $53B endowment? Sounds like chump change that Harvard could privately fund … if it really is all that important for Hate-Jew U. Lately, it doesn’t seem that the relentless pursuit of academic excellence is really a thing on campus anymore. Oh well, “From the river to the sea, federal grants – they ain’t free!”
but no one will study cancer research etc etc lefty cries out
bulllllllll
these same leftists shutdown hospitals heart attack centers/surgeries during their successful takeover of america during DemVid19
f the left
I have problems with this. By all means dismantle Harvard however the medical research and hospitals are top notch. Most are the best of the best.
Those of you who say researchers can just pick up and go elsewhere don’t know what the hell you’re talking about it. The problems are immense and the opportunities are minimal.
Okay let loose your slings and arrows and downclicks. Just don’t be an ass about it.
research doesnt need the government funding it
governments do so to keep their hands in the mix for control
obama/harris and allll the rest raised $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for their campaigns
thatttt money can go to research
do you actually believe that the fed is really a (quasi) private entity?
that local utilities are actually private industry?
no,,its just alll about government control and
inflicting fear into the population that there will be no more cancer research etc
The federal government is not the entity that ought to be paying or basic research at universities, to start with. Most especially, in areas where there is a phenomenally energetic commercial market. In medicine, that commercial market is, itself, overfunded by the same exact government, thereby causing prices there to rise well in excess of the rate of inflation (as is true of the universities, themselves, also supported by this self-same government to allow them to increase prices well in excess of inflation and reason).
Harvard has a huge endowment to fund its research, if it thinks it’s so important, and there are tons of pharmaceutical and medical companies that also have deep pockets to fund the research that they depend on for their products..
We need to get away from the idea that it is the job of the federal government to support the research that health care companies live off of or the salaries of university personnel so that those same universities can take their wads of cash and use them, instead, to fund jokes of departments that have no business being there, in the first place.
Your post suggests you have no idea what research is although I could be wrong. Much of the research funded by the government is basic research having nothing to do with a potential product. Commerical companies only care about products they can sell which makes sense. Their focus is short term. Basic research provides the underpinnings for everything else. It’s focus is much longer.
Here is an example. When the search for the structure of DNA began there was no reason for any public company to fund it because and product ramifications were 20 years or more off in the future. Government had to fund it and without that funding no one would have the time or equipment to investigate it. Once the puzzle was solved other questions could be asked and eventually many many years later genomics was born and biotech companies were formed to use the basic technology that resulted for initial government funded research. Most areas of science operate similarly.
“there was no reason for any public company to fund….”
forgetting at the very basics the profit motive??
“government has to fund it”………
asking for the heavy hand of the regulatory greedy kamala harris’ of the world to run the show vs those in the medical field …
doesnt help your case
“Government has to fund things that the free market has no interest in, because some expert in government feels they will be crucial in the future,”
Like innovative bat soup recipes, and transgender animal experiments.
Don’t forget drunken goldfish.
You are.
“We need to get away from the idea that it is the job of the federal government to support the research that health care companies…”
The federal government”….don’t you mean the American taxpayer?
I fully agree with what you wrote.
I agree with you. But who cares. Shut Harvard down. Make Harvard the last place that anyone would consider for higher education.
The leftist didn’t give a flying FK about killing old people in hospitals, firing hospital employees who failed to take the Scamdemic Clot Shot, and telling us to get over it.
I don’t care a bit about how the people at Harvard have to fight to get scarce resources elsewhere.
That’s their problem. Learn to code.
Plenty of other Universities to conduct research. These grad Students and researchers should have chosen another one which unlike Harvard doesn’t brazenly demand to be allowed to continue its racist violations of the Civil Rights Acts. No crying, choices have consequences, they can suck it up or not.
Harvard can’t return to its roots unless it stops admitting women.
They can demerge Radcliffe. Then, Love Story can make sense to people, again.
Most of the Seven Sisters are STILL women’s colleges … though none of them would be able, today, to define what a “woman” is …
You are using ambiguous words. What exactly do you mean by “women”?
Note that the Boston Globe begins it’s article with what could, at best, be called an opinion. More accurately, it should be called a lie: “In yet another escalation of its fight against higher education …”
Dhimmi-crat media shills/trained seals/stenographers are masters of dishonest framing and subjective narrative-peddling in their “news” headlines, subheadings and article content.
The Boston Globe is a wholly-owned subvomitory of the NY Times.
What more could one expect from the Glob?
Unrestrained Jew-hate and gleeful and unabashed support for genocidal Islamofascism/Muslim terrorism and Islamfascists/Muslim terrorists by university administrators, faculty and students should ideally result in a host of punitive consequences, and, now, thanks to #47, that richly-deserved outcome is finally happening.
I find it ironic that the “support for genocidal Islamofascism/Muslim terrorism and Islamfascists/Muslim terrorists by university administrators, faculty and students” is even a thing.
Those same genocidal Islamofascist/Muslim terrorists would destroy Harvard and its university administrators, faculty and students as soon as they take control of the nation.
As of last year, Harvard had an endowment of well over $50 billion (yes, billion with a ‘b’). That’s not even including all the government-funded ‘student loans,’ they’re raking in. They do not need ‘subsidies,’ ‘grants,’ or any other support from taxpayer dollars.
Richly deserved
Harvard wanted free taxpayer loot while supporting antisemitism and actively discriminating against people based on their race. Now they’re upset the tap has been turned off? They’re lucky we’re not demanding a refund for the last decade.
Really? Cancer…diseases…science…
How about the trans-sexualization of mice and beagles?
How research Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming and other junk science projects?
These are the idiotic causes that infest the “science” departments of these “universities”. They are left wing incubators of left wing political science….not real science.
I’m a little confused. With their endowment wouldn’t they be able to fund themselves for 30 or 40yrs assuming whoever is running it is so incompetent he/she achieved zero returns?
It’s just odd to me that universities seemingly assume the federal government owes them unlimited money for some reason
The precedent was sent years ago.
Bob Jones Uni didn’t have “the right to discriminate” or breach civil rights even arguing both academic freedom and religious freedom grounds.
Harvard also has no “right to discriminate”.
Blue Blood be d@mned.
“First they came for the religious nuts, but I did not defend them because I wasn’t a religious nut.
…
Finally, they came for Harvard, but there was no one left to speak for Harvard – without being a hypocrite.”
And the din was incredible.
I heard Harvard’s President Garber is taking a 25% “pay cut” to “weather the storm”. I can all but guarantee this is all smoke and mirrors. Chances are: a) it’s a salary deferral agreement “until the ‘crisis’ is over; b) he’ll get some obscene bonus if even a penny of federal funding gets restored; c) the Marxists of the Harvard Corporation (lookin’ at ya’, Penny Pritzker, you hypocrite!) already put away the cash in the Caymans; and d) Garber will fake some kind of contrition with some AI-generated statement because no one at Harvard is left that can do *any* original thinking.
The debate between the ivory tower activists “arts and letters” faculty and the erstwhile scientific grant faculty recipients should, I hope, become public. Perhaps this will be a realignment of academic sensibilities at Harvard and elsewhere.
Harvard president takes pay cut to signal he supports racism against whites, and promotes anti-semitism?
Let’s hope it sets a trend.
