Russia and Ukraine agreed to a 1,000 prisoner swap last week during a face-to-face meeting in Istanbul, Turkey.
The countries started the process today. They’ve had over 60 exchanges in three years.
We are bringing our people home. The first stage of the “1000-for-1000” exchange agreement has been carried out. This agreement was reached during the meeting in Türkiye, and it is crucial to implement it in full.

From The Associated Press:
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the first phase of the exchange was bringing home 390 Ukrainians, with further releases expected over the weekend.
“It’s very important to bring everyone home,” he wrote on Telegram, thanking all who worked to secure their return and pledging to continue diplomatic efforts to make more exchanges possible.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said each side had released 270 military personnel and 120 civilian detainees. The exchange is “planned to continue in coming days,” it said.
Zelenskyy said the prisoner agreement “was perhaps the only tangible result of the meeting in Türkiye.”

Maybe they should exchange 1000 clowns.
Oh, wait! Ukraine has only got one clown.
Recycling cannon fodder.
Trump has always claimed that Ukraine started the war with Russia, even though Russia invaded Ukraine. This is insanity and worthy of impeachment.
“Donald Trump has again blamed Volodymyr Zelensky for starting the war with Russia – a day after a major Russian attack killed 35 people and injured 117 others in the Ukrainian city of Sumy.
“You don’t start a war against someone 20 times your size and then hope that people give you some missiles,” he said at the White House on Monday.
Good first step. They can build on this a bit.
In the old days the Soviets would likely either execute the returning prisoners or send them to siberia for surrendering. Now they’ll just send them back into battle as suggested above,
