Johnson Torches Media Over Spreading Lies About Medicaid in Bill
“If you allow Democrats to make these intentionally false claims without pushback, then you’re aiding and abetting the spread of misinformation.”

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson lashed out at the media for repeating the lies Democrats spread about Medicaid in the “Big, Beautiful Bill.”
Here’s the entire transcript, but I’ll highlight the media part:
Let me just talk about reconciliation real quick. Look, this bill is coming together, as you’ve heard. The last three committees are reporting out today. Everybody in this room gets fixated on a few final details about all this, but I think it’s important to state one more time what we’re achieving through reconciliation.
This will be one of the most consequential pieces of legislation ever passed by the United States Congress. It is large, it is comprehensive, and it deals with reconciling the budget in a way that will be fiscally responsible. We’re going to slash taxes, including on tips over time, Social Security for seniors, and job creators, restore American energy dominance, as you’ve heard, secure our border, and deport illegal aliens. We’re going to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse, return to peace through strength, and reduce spending—all at the same time.
I put reconciliation on an aggressive timetable back in January. I said that we would try to do this as quickly as possible. We’re still on target to hit that Memorial Day deadline, which people balked at when we first said it. The American people are counting on us to get this done and get it done quickly.
President Biden left virtually every area of public policy in disrepair, and it is incumbent upon Congress to fix it and pass laws that cannot be easily undone or overwritten. We’re working around the clock to build that consensus, to get the 218 votes, and deliver on President Trump’s America First agenda so the American people can really begin to feel relief.
As we’re working to get this done, House Democrats are working overtime to deceive the American people about this. We’ve discussed it already this morning, but they’re not talking about what the bill actually does. They’re using talking points that are pretty stale. They’re not afraid to lie about what’s in it, and we’re not afraid to tell the truth about what the Democrats are doing. They’ve already been forced to take down their advertisements because they were filled with falsehoods about what the bill supposedly was going to have in it.
You probably saw last week—they’re at it again. They released a so-called CBO report that claims our legislation cuts many millions of Americans out of Medicaid. It’s obviously, demonstrably false. Other outlets have reported on this, okay? They included policies that are not even in the legislation. How could they have done that? Because they released the report before the bill text was issued, okay? Most of the media ran with that, okay?
I’m just going to say this to my friends in the media, on the Hill press corps in particular, right? If you allow Democrats to make these intentionally false claims without pushback, then you’re aiding and abetting the spread of misinformation. I mean, I’m stating the obvious. The job is to get the facts out there, so we hope you will.
We said repeatedly we are protecting Medicaid for the people who need and deserve it. This program is an essential lifeline for our most vulnerable Americans—pregnant women, single mothers, low-income seniors, the disabled. That’s who Medicaid is intended to be for, and that’s who we’re protecting while we’re eliminating fraud, waste, and abuse to improve Medicaid. These are reforms to restore and preserve the system so that it doesn’t collapse on itself.
That means ensuring illegal aliens don’t get coverage meant for Americans in need. It means implementing work requirements to ensure that adults who can work but refuse to cannot keep cheating the system. We’re going to continue to call this out, and we’re going to put the facts out there, and the people are going to be able to judge it for themselves.

Yup. Here are a few headlines:
- MSNBC: ‘Largest Medicaid cut in history’: Leader Jeffries calls out Republicans over ‘tax scam’
- The New York Times: House Republicans Push Forward With Tax and Medicaid Cuts
- NBC News: ‘Thicket of red tape’ for Medicaid in GOP bill sparks fears of coverage losses
- NPR: Medicaid cuts will hurt families and cost GOP politically, says Kentucky governor
- ABC News: House Republicans unveil Medicaid cuts that Democrats warn will leave millions without care
- Rolling Stone: ‘Children will die:’ Democrats raise alarm about GOP efforts to Cut Medicaid
- Associated Press: House Republicans unveil Medicaid cuts that Democrats warn will leave millions without care
It doesn’t help that Senate Republicans have been babbling about Medicaid.
If anything, call out Johnson for lying about the spending cuts. Johnson and others told us they’d cut $2 trillion and now can barely find $1.5 trillion to cut.
Despicable.

I’ll take 1.5T cuts over 0. 2T would be better but I’ll take what we can get.
Everything the media does is misinformation and democratic talking points. Why should this be the difference. Should continually call out democrats for lying and media for being democratic activists.
It’s an odd take saying the Republicans can barely scrape together 1.5T in cuts! I mean that’s right up there with some of CNN and ABC’s hot takes on the price of eggs and why lower prices is actually bad for you 🤔
Asking the msm to be honest is like asking the sun not to rise. It is nature, and nature cannot be changed. After decades of the msm’s lies, omissions, and distortions, they cannot change and see no reason to.
The acronym that best describes both the state of media and Democrats is as follows…
FUBAR
My question is why isn’t the media torching Johnson for preventing any impeachment vote for judges engaging in bad behavior, re: Trump, or any motions to codify Trump’s EOs?
I agree. Where’s OANN? Megyn Kelly? Etcal?
Meh, the one Rep who tried to point out the lack of commitment to current spending cuts got pilloried for doing so. Thomas Massie correctly pointed out that extending the CR would prolong Biden’s Budget, hamper Pres Trump’s ability to impound/prevent stupid spending and that’s exactly what happened. He pointed out the budget proposal would not hit the $2.0 Trillion target months ago and that the behind the scenes maneuvering and deal making would get out of control without the immediate pressure of a Govt shutdown…and that’s what happened. Want more cuts? Go tell the NY delegation to pound sand on demanding SALT increase from $10K to $30K with four GoP members still bitching it isn’t enough. Give them an increase to $15K (50% higher) and tell them to STFU.
Better yet, tell them that NY or CT tax bills are not the concern of people in Tennessee or Mississippi.
I couldn’t understand why Elise Stefanik was vocally positioning herself in favor of a SALT increase in this bill. Then, I read where she wants to run for Governor of New York.
Yeah she likely is doing that. I totally understand her and many of the NY delegation and the delegations of other high tax States pushing to increase SALT to bring back something to their constituents.
What I have a problem with is the lack of consistency from some quarters on the whole ‘be a team player and don’t be disruptive’ argument. Why is it that the few members of Congress who want to actually cut spending or embrace small gov’t and individual liberty positions get slammed for their stance but if some establishment members break ranks to carve out something for their constituents that impacts the legislation they don’t get slammed? Either the ‘team player’ argument is always valid or it isn’t and the selectivity in the application is rank hypocrisy.
Wait, is this another iteration of that tired old, worn-out, idiotic lefty argument that a decrease in the rate of annual increase somehow equals a “cut”?
It’s only a “cut” when the decrease in the rate of increase is greater than 100% of that rate. 🙄
Yep. The bulk of the $1.5 Trillion discussed are not ‘cuts’ (decrease in current spending) but rather proposing spending less in future budget years. Of course Congress can’t be blamed in isolation because Trump wants a single ‘big beautiful bill’ and that means widespread log rolling and deal making to secure the votes. In fairness using this strategy of a single bill is probably necessary under the circumstances with the Biden Admin leaving the cupboard empty at Treasury and the debt ceiling looming. I can aspect the necessity and live with it b/c as others note $1.5 Trillion in ‘cuts’ is better than zero but I don’t have to celebrate it as the best thing ever.
Clearly, you’re not using common core math.
RFK Jr.:
Oh, the cuts to— I don’t know if you understand this or whether you’re just mouthing the Democratic talking points. The cuts to Medicaid are for fraud, waste, and abuse. I’ll tell you what that means. It means that because of Doge, we were able to determine— and it’s about 8 million people who would be affected— that there are a million people who are claiming Medicaid from multiple states. That’s illegal. It’s theft. You’re not allowed to do that. There are another million people who are collecting both under Obamacare and Medicaid.
There are another million illegal aliens. We announced a rule yesterday: we’re not going to pay illegal aliens anymore. And guess what Gavin Newsom did this morning? He said, “We’re going to take all the illegal aliens off the California Medicaid rolls because the feds aren’t paying for them anymore.” So much for compassion.
Nice post, well said

Trump’s Tax Plan Is a Leftist Economic Agenda Wrapped in Populist Talking Points
The administration shows no coherent commitment to free market principles and is in fact actively undermining them.
‘None of this should surprise anyone paying attention. This administration is packed with advisers and surrogates who glorify union power, rail against globalization, and scoff at the very idea of limited government. Some sound more like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I–Vt.) than Milton Friedman. Whether it’s directing industrial policy or distorting the tax code to reward their favorite behaviors, they are hostile to the competition and liberty of the free market.
Sadly, that hostility has real consequences: higher prices, greater economic uncertainty, sluggish investment, and fewer opportunities for middle- and lower-class families.”

turn this alllll over to the locals
then lets see what happens when the local gov pays your money to non existent people. or people that have never contributed etc etc
Some local jurisdictions don’t seem to mind ….though it might be more accurate to say they didn’t mind too much until Uncle Sugar began closing off his checkbook and the locals would have most or all of the responsibility for payment.
The amusing thing is the leftists and big gov’t establishment types falling all over themselves with criticism of the more populist view based on some new found commitment to ‘free market principles’. It isn’t as if we had a free market until Trump was inaugurated and he is singlehandedly overturning the apple cart.
I presume all these folks will be demanding an end to all gov’t social programs and repealing 90% of govt regulations that impede the ‘free market’. That they will demand a federal right to work statute. Maybe they will get to those right after they propose a flat income tax with a single personal deduction, an end to all refundable credits and to stop using the tax code to try and coerce decision making.
Let’s see a few years of consistency on these ‘free market principles’ some seem to have conveniently discovered with new Admin in the WH.
