DOJ Probing Chicago Mayor Over Alleged Racial Hiring Practices

Mayor Brandon Johnson admitted he hires black citizens because they’re “the most generous people on the planet.”

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon announced the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division opened an investigation into Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s hiring practices.

“In your remarks made yesterday at the Apostolic Church of God in Woodlawn, you ‘highlight[ed] the number of Black officials in [your] administration,'” wrote Dhillon. “You then went on to list each of these individuals, emphasizing their race.”

On episode 4,782 of “Imagine If a White Person Had Said That,” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson sought to explain why he hires so many black city employees on the basis of their skin color, claiming that black Americans are “the most generous people on the planet.”

“There are some detractors that will push back on me and say, you know, ‘The only thing the mayor talks about is the hiring of black people.’ No – what I’m saying is, when you hire our people, we always look out for everybody else,” Johnson, who is black, told the predominantly black congregation at the Apostolic Church of God in Woodlawn on Sunday.

“We are the most generous people on the planet. I don’t know too many cultures that have play cousins, that’s how generous we are. We just make somebody a family member. That’s just how we are,” he went on.

Johnson then went through the number of top city officials he’s specifically hired because they are black, to “ensure that our people get a chance to grow their business.”

He doesn’t know many Italians, does he? I lost count of the number of “aunts,” “uncles,” and “cousins” I have who are not blood related.

The list included:

• “Business and economic neighborhood development, the deputy mayor’s a Black woman.”
• “Department of planning and development is a Black woman.”
• “Infrastructure, deputy mayor is a Black woman.”
• “Chief operations officer is a Black man.”
• “Budget director is a Black woman.”
• “Senior advisor is a Black man.”

“Considering these remarks, I have authorized an investigation to determine whether the City of Chicago is engaged in a pattern or practice of discrimination as set forth above,” continued Dhillon. “If these kind of hiring decisions are being made for top-level positions in your administration, then it begs the question whether such decisions are also being made for lower-level positions.”

Johnson’s press secretary, Cassio Mensoza, pushed back on Monday, saying the mayor “is proud to have the most diverse administration in the history of our city.”

“Our administration reflects the diversity and values of Chicago. Unfortunately, the current federal administration does not reflect either,” added Mendoza.

Johnson has also bragged about giving city contracts to black-owned businesses like Bowa Construction.

In October 2023, Breitbart News reported that Johnson pushed city authorities to issue fewer parking tickets to black residents.

That’s a nice headline.

This is how stereotypes are born.

This dude sounds a lot like Mayor Ray “Chocolate City” Nagin, he of the flooded school busses and a comfortable prison cell.

I think we all know blacks that we’d trust with our lives and blacks that we’d go to great effort to stay the hell away from but what seems to be lost on the black community here is that two points apply to every group of people, even within your own tribe.

Hiring blacks just because they’re black (and generous apparently) and giving no consideration for their ability to actually do the job is setting them up for failure as well as setting the city up for failure.

    And EVERY culture I can think of (except perhaps the Borg) has “play cousins.” They just don’t use that silly, juvenile term for them

Explains why chigago is failing. Doesnt hire on merit. The moron hiring the dumb hiring the stupid because and only because of color. Each probably has 1 white or asian guy in the back room doing the actual work.

Chicago has a cool hiring practice—something Comey would find walking along the beach.

Census data show Chicago with demographics of:
33% white (non hispanic)
3% white hispanic
28% black/African American
14% hispanic
14% two or more races claimed
7% Asian
1% everyone else

They have 50 wards that elect their city council. A very quick look at their composition using photo and name appeared to show 17 black, 11 white not hispanic, 12 hispanic and a single Asian. Doesn’t seem to match the demographics. Admittedly this was a very crude and unscientific way to glean data. Used presentation in photo and names both last and first. So if someone presented as white not with a hispanic name I counted them as ‘white’ and so on.

Lefty lawfare groups are always telling us the under representation of a group politically can be determined by simply looking at the demographics and comparing election outcomes to see if they generally balance offer time. If not then district lines must be redrawn to produce an outcome that more closely reflects the demographics. Got some work to do in Chicago to make.that happen.

I suspect that overall city employee # are not in line with demographics either based on how the very cursory look at the city council turned out.

DEI is such a grift.

Eddie Jordan, Jr., the fed prosecutor who convicted Edwin Edwards, got into the same amount of trouble when he became DA of New Orleans, and fired 43 white employees from his office, saying he want to the “reflect the racial makeup of the city.”

He ended up resigning after the employee’s lawsuit was successful.
