Michigan Dem. Senator Elissa Slotkin Floats a Plan for Her Party to Win Back the Middle

While Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders are traveling the country trying to energize the deflated left, Democratic Senator Elissa Slotkin of Michigan is pushing a new plan she has for her party to take back the center.
The plan involves rejecting much of what Democrats have become known for in recent years, so it remains to be seen whether this would work or not.

Michigan Democratic Sen. Elissa Slotkin called out her own party as “weak and woke” and urged them to “f—ing retake the flag” as she prepares a “war plan” to defeat President Donald Trump and the Republican agenda.
On Thursday, Politico reported on a speech Slotkin was expected to give in Lansing to Democratic volunteers in what will be part of a series of speeches addressing strategy, tactics and tone.
According to Politico, “Slotkin’s plan lays out why she thinks Democrats suffered sweeping setbacks last year, including focus groups of home-state voters who she said described her party as ‘weak and woke.'”
“She is urging Democrats to ‘f—ing retake the flag’ with appeals to voters’ sense of patriotism, to adopt ‘the goddamn Alpha energy’ of Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell and to embrace an ‘airing out’ of potential 2028 presidential candidates in a broadly contested primary,” Politico correspondent Adam Wren wrote.
According to the Politico report, Slotkin’s plan includes continuing to fight for the illegal immigrant ‘Maryland Man’ who has been deported to El Salvador:
Slotkin’s plan lays out why she thinks Democrats suffered sweeping setbacks last year, including focus groups of home-state voters who she said described her party as “weak and woke.” It defines success as winning a number of upcoming battles, including at the Supreme Court.
Most immediately, she said, Democrats could secure a court victory in the most high-profile deportation in recent history by forcing Trump to obey an order in the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland resident mistakenly deported to El Salvador by the Trump administration.
“We need to have this fight as a nation about whether we should still uphold the Constitution and still believe there are three co-equal branches of government and the president is blatantly ignoring one of those branches right now,” Slotkin said. “I wouldn’t have picked this case myself, because it’s hard with the El Salvador piece. He’s in another country, but the case picked us.”
That detail alone makes me think that Slotkin’s plan is unserious, but FOX News contributor Johnny Joey Jones, who appeared on The Five on Friday, addressed some of the other issues, like our supposedly problematic flag and so-called toxic masculinity. Slotkin’s plan relies heavily on Democrats believing that no one remembers what they have been saying for years now, as well as rejecting the core beliefs of the party’s base. I’m not convinced that’s going to work.

The preamble sets out the constitution’s purpose; it explains why these people decided to “ordain and establish” a constitution. It does not explain what that constitution does. For that you have to read the constitution itself, and it says that it protects “any person within its jurisdiction” equally.
