Hundreds Arrested at UCLA Anti-Israel Encampment, But Only Two Pro-Israel Students Being Prosecuted

“the Los Angeles city attorney’s office said it would not file criminal charges against the vast majority of students and protesters arrested because of a lack of evidence”

The anti-Israel protests at UCLA last spring were horrible. The students leading the protests set up an encampment and even declared ‘Jew-free zones.’

A rabbi was assaulted by a mob and Jewish students were prevented from moving freely on campus.

The school lost a multi-million dollar charitable gift over the chaos.

Hundreds of people were arrested in the process, and now, a year later, two people have been charged. Both were pro-Israel counter protesters.

From the Los Angeles Times:

Hundreds of protesters and counterprotesters were arrested on the campuses of UCLA and USC during several days of demonstrations and unrest last spring stemming from the United States’ involvement in the war in Gaza.

At UCLA’s Dickson Court, Times reporters documented how events “exploded into savagery and chaos.” A large, mostly male crowd of masked counterdemonstrators tried to break into an encampment of protesters, ripping down wood and metal barriers, spraying bear mace, igniting stink bombs and tossing fireworks near the camp perimeter — and in at least one case inside the camp…

Nearly a year after the protests, the Los Angeles city attorney’s office said it would not file criminal charges against the vast majority of students and protesters arrested because of a lack of evidence. Some groups were thankful for the limited action, others were happy that at least two were charged…

Who was charged?

Edan On and Matthew Katz have been identified as the two suspects facing criminal charges.

On, a pro-Israel demonstrator, was charged with battery and assault with a deadly weapon. Katz was charged with battery, false imprisonment and resisting arrest, according to the city attorney’s office. Most of those charges are misdemeanors.

Both were arrested on suspicion of the alleged conduct at UCLA.

Three others — identified as Ali Abuamouneh, Karla Maria Aguilar and David Fischel — were sent to city attorney hearings, which are informal proceedings conducted as an alternative to a misdemeanor criminal prosecution, according to the statement.

One Jewish student who was denied access to campus by the ‘protesters’ last spring appeared on FOX News and they showed footage of the incident. It’s unbelievable that this happened on a modern, American college campus. Watch:

The left is always given a pass. We saw it with Trump’s 2016 inauguration, the 2020 BLM riots, and now this. The double standard is undeniable.

California is a bad joke.

The majority of California voters support it. That’s why they keep electing far-leftists.

Is there a defense fund for these two?

If there was a lack of evidence, then why were they arrested in the first place?

Sorry but Eli’s behavior promotes more violence against Jews. The masked individuals engaged in assault. I understand his reluctance to fight. Had he ripped off a mask to expose one individual’s face, perhaps leading to an identification, Eli would have been the only one prosecuted. Such is LA and perhaps America. Open season on Jews with government cooperation. This and other incidents makes me want to move to Israel. If things get rough in Texas, I’m out of here. I doubt that will happen as Texas is way different from California. Everyone here is wonderful to me. Moreover, I can walk around with a variety of defensive weapons, which I will use if attacked.

American Jews better wake up to what’s happening. Either leave or fight, Nothing says “Never Again” like an armed Jew.

one group wants to be educated and live the american dream

one group wants to turn this country over to the omar

sweep the streets and washout the omar group

No amount of treasure could entice me to set even a toe in California.

I have done so only once in the last 25 years. And that was for the funeral of my wife’s godmother. She was a beautiful spot of godly light in that cesspool.

Haven’t you heard? Two weeks ago, California finally broke down and are now allowing out-of-staters to apply for concealed weapons permits!

All you need to do is apply to a sheriff in a county you “actually in good faith intend to visit” sometime in the next 12 months; participate in a video interview; undergo a psychological examination; get fingerprinted; attend and pass a California-qualified training course (no others count); list on your application every gun you might want to carry by make, model, and serial; live-fire qualify with each of them; buy some crippled (<=10 round) magazines to carry just in California; and become a member of CRPA, GOC, SAF, or GOA (NRA doesn't count).

I sure am eager to plow through all that bullshit for the privilege of paying $2 more per gallon to gas up my truck in Blythe than I could six miles east in Ehrenberg, AZ.

Oh, I forgot — except if your carry gun is a Glock, because California is about to ban those.
Happy traveling in the Golden State!

(This won’t make sense until the comment it is appended to gets out of moderation.)

Only tangentially related but how bout a tribute article for the great dv horowitz?

Maybe this could finally be the wake up call to kill the nostalgia for when California ruled the country and throw it in the sun instead of making national economic suicide on behalf of it?

Texas picked good economic policy and is thriving. Lets celebrate Texas instead of fighting to build factories in California.

Lets instead celebrate the demise of California.

If the police did their job correctly, especially with body and surveillance cameras, there should be evidence for the city attorney to charge 80% or so of those arrested. Charging only two makes one think the police falsely arrested the other people.
Peacefully protesting, even if I think the pro-Hamas protestors are stupid, have no clue, etc, is protected. But anyone who damages people or property in any manner, including preventing people from getting to classes, the library, etc., must be arrested.
