Boston City Councilor Arrested on Corruption Charges Last Year Pleads Guilty, Will Resign
“I have decided to plead guilty and resolve the case brought against me. I would like to apologize to my constituents, supporters, and all who have been impacted.”

Last December, we told you about Boston City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson, who was arrested on federal charges of corruption in a ‘kickback’ scheme. She was defiant at the time but now she has apologized and announced her plans to resign.
Fernandes Anderson has pleaded guilty to a count of wire fraud and theft.
NBC News in Boston reports:
‘Forgive me’: Boston city councilor pleading guilty over kickback scheme, resigning
Boston City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson is set to plead guilty in her federal corruption case, she confirmed Tuesday, and said she’s resigning…
Fernandes Anderson had faced calls to step down in light of the five counts of aiding and abetting wire fraud and one of aiding and abetting theft concerning programs receiving federal funds she was initially charged with. She was arrested on suspicion of funneling part of an inflated bonus payment through a relative of hers on her staff into her own pockets during an exchange at a City Hall bathroom.
The 46-year-old, who represents Dorchester, Roxbury, Fenway and parts of the South End, is pleading guilty to a count each of wire fraud and theft involving federal funds, according to a copy of the plea agreement shared by prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Massachusetts. Four counts are being dropped.
Prosecutors are recommending that she serve a year and one day in prison, with three years of probation. They also recommended that she pay $13,000 in restitution.
The report includes her full statement on the matter:
I have decided to plead guilty and resolve the case brought against me. I would like to apologize to my constituents, supporters, and all who have been impacted.
Please forgive me.
I will be resigning. It is the right thing to do. In coming days, I will evaluate transition plans and timeline with the District 7 Advisory Council. I will do everything possible to make an orderly exit to ensure my constituents’ needs are met.
I will have more to say at the appropriate time in court but I will not be commenting further beyond this statement. I pray that the press will respect my privacy, as well as the privacy of my family.
This video report from WBZ News in Boston includes some comments from Mayor Michelle Wu.
Boston may hold a special election to fill the vacant seat. I fully expect the voters of the city to replace her with another Democrat.

Isn’t this thief an illegal alien as well? Is she a US citizen?
https://www.bostonherald.com/2025/04/08/could-plea-deal-get-boston-city-councilor-tania-fernandes-anderson-deported/
It’s muddled. She is a “former illegal alien” but then the story says she could be deported. Which is it? The only way to deport her is to remove her citizenship if she is naturalized
Remember, the information is being filtered through a “journalist”.
It sounds to me like this is standard boilerplate for all such pleas, or at least for all such pleas from defendants who are not citizens by birth. In this case it would not apply, since she’s now a citizen, and her crime was committed after she became one. But there are many cases where the defendant is not a citizen, in which case the plea could result in having her immigration status revoked. And there are also some cases where the plea affects the validity of the defendant’s citizenship; where having committed the crime pled to would mean that her naturalization was invalid and therefore she was never a citizen.
Remember, US citizenship, once legitimately obtained, can never be revoked involuntarily; but a citizenship that was not legitimately obtained was never valid, and doesn’t even need to be revoked. There are many people who purport to be US citizens, and then it turns out that they aren’t and never were. Such people can, of course, be deported.
So the standard boilerplate for the plea would say that the defendant understand this, even if it’s not actually relevant to her case.
Love her acorn cap. Truth in advertising.
acorn the commie group
or the nut that she is!!??
Two things that happen to be true at the same time I suppose
as jasmine crookette would say
we aint pickn cotton anymore
Picking the pockets of constituents is more profitable.
That was an incredibly racist thing of her to say. It implies that illegal aliens, as a class of people, are only good for menial labor. (Likely true, but that never stopped the Left from calling such ideas “racist.”)
Didn’t you hear? Black women cannot be racist. It’s a scientific fact. Are you a science denier?
That and the only person in America picking cotton in the USA in 2025 is some guy named John Deere and he’s green, not black.
anymore?Or, no mo?
“I will be resigning” and returning to my other job of street violence against whts /j 00ws
during an exchange at a City Hall bathroom
This is the nastiest part. Plenty of other untoward things take place in bathrooms. Ugh.
Along with iconotastic, I had read this woman was also illegally in America. Any links to that part of this story? Or did we misread something?
The key word there is “was”. At least as far as anyone knows.
Yeah she’s not the greatest of people; she’s made alot of antisemitic statements and uses very hostile language toward Jews in general. On top of that she blames everything on race issues versus looking in the mirror. She’s not the image of good public accountability to be sure and often comes off as unhinged or manic. I’s say Boston got lucky in being able to force her to resign she seemed like a “I will cling on to the last second kind of person to me .”
investigate Wu han the mayor of boston
Replace with another D, rinse and repeat.
Happened in 2022 and they’re just getting around to prosecuting now?
It happened in June 2023. She was arrested in December 2024.
I am sorry I got caught.
She is a disgusting waster of oxygen but I will give her points for accepting responsibility, apologizing, and resigning. Most people like her would have hung on past the bitter end.
I suspect this is nothing more that the social version of “taking a plea.”
It was less disastrous than the alternative she was offered.
she (hoping) that the resignation will stop any further investigations
if harris were potus
this racistscumf
would be promoted
check her emails:
stacy abrams: dear sista
please resign so they dont find our connection
Fear not! After a short spell of penance she will run again, and the forgiving or amnestic citizens of Boston will re-elect her. I doubt she will even have to relinquish her designated parking.
