John Fetterman Offers Blunt Assessment of His Party’s Problems With Voters, Especially Men
“I think their primary currency was shaming and scolding and talking down to people”

One of the most fascinating aspects of the 2024 election, was the shifting identities of the major political parties. Republicans emerged from the election rebranded as a ‘common sense’ party for the working class. Democrats came away from the election looking like angry scolds who are hostile towards men, particularly white men.
There has been no introspection about this from Democratic party leaders, but Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania addressed it very plainly during a recent appearance on the Tara Palmeri podcast.
FOX News reports:
Fetterman says Democratic Party brand is ‘toxic’ thanks to constant ‘shaming and scolding’
While appearing on the “Somebody’s Gotta Win” podcast on Thursday, host and journalist Tara Palmeri asked Fetterman about how even insiders within the Democratic Party acknowledged the damage their image has taken since the 2024 election.
Fetterman reiterated his belief that the party did it to itself by constantly attacking and demeaning their opponents.
“I think their primary currency was shaming and scolding and talking down to people and telling them ‘Hey, I know better than you, or you’re dopes, or you’re a bro, or you’re ignorant or, how can you be this dumb? I can’t imagine it. And then, by the way, they’re fascists. How can you vote for that?’” Fetterman said.
He continued, “And you know, when you’re in a state like Pennsylvania, I know and I love people that voted for Trump, and they’re not fascist. They don’t support insurrection and those things. And if you go to an extreme, and you become a boutique kind of proposition, then you’re going to lose the argument. And we have done that.”
Fetterman’s discussion on the issue of the male vote was especially damning for Democrats:
“I think that’s been seriously eroding for a while. And in some cases, in the conversations I’ve had, a lot of people, they don’t even want to say it publicly, but they just feel like the other side seems like…the men’s the problem,” Fetterman said. “Men are to blame. Or their masculinity is toxic. Or unless you’re able to conform to our very strict kinds of definition of what we think is appropriate, well then, hey, I’m going to find an alternative. And they’ve done that. That’s absolutely true.”
“And once [they’ve] kind of turned their back on that demographic, it’s going to be difficult to rebuild and replace that with those voters, because I think that migration has been an ongoing phenomenon for several years and that has been in front and center in part of the election in ’24,” he concluded.
Fetterman continues the interview discussing the Democrats’ toxic brand:
John Fetterman explains why Democrat party brand is toxic, and is not sure the Democrats can 'win white men back':
Tara Palmeri: "Why is the Democratic Party viewed as toxic by so many? Even people inside the party acknowledge that."
John Fetterman: "I think their primary… pic.twitter.com/q5BZXDdrbI— Eric Abbenante (@EricAbbenante) February 6, 2025
Fetterman addresses the party’s struggles with male voters, acknowledging that Democrats may never win them back:
The bombshell dropped when Fetterman admitted the Democratic Party had fractured its relationship with white men so severely that he’s “not sure” if it’s possible that it can be repaired.
TARA PALMERI: “How do Democrats win back white men like yourself?”
JOHN FETTERMAN: “I… pic.twitter.com/tWUZgKn5BY

The whole interview is only about 14 minutes long. Watch it below!
It’s amazing that Fetterman is the one member of his party who seems to understand these issues and is willing to talk about them so frankly.

It tells you something that having a stroke actually increases the IQ of Democrats.
Strokes and brain worms.
Seriously the only guy with a vision here, didn’t have the ability to comprehend speech for a while. But he’s not wrong about the points he is making. Scolding, shaming and smearing people has been the currency of the Democrat party. Everyone is an “ist” or “phobic” if they don’t completely agree with all the agendas that somehow intersect. but of course are perversely opposed to each other. Like my body my choice accept for the COVID-19 vaccine. Transgender people need to be protected accept of course when it’s about Muslims and then in that case it’s OK to forget about protecting them. Save the planet, and we live on turtle island, accept when those wind farms kill birds and cause issues for whales. On and On; you can’t agree with some things and disagree with others. You can’t think and have opinions. You have to be a pro-Islam, transgender, vegan, anti-religious, anti-zionist, climate activist, that loves violence but hates free speech and wants more government control of everything. Can Fetterman help change his party? Who knows it will be interesting to see the evolution of things over the next year?
biden’s 2 brain surgeries never helped him though.
Democrats have become so bad that I question rather the party can survive. Thye have been alienating white for decades, just the rate has accelerated.
It will take them some time to regroup.
But like zombies and vampires, they will and return in their lust after power.
Men like Fetterman who support the left but can speak plainly of their challenges are dangerous – they can help steer them back into power and will vote for whatever new form of insanity they bring.
The Whig party disintegrated in the 1850s because, on the one issue uppermost in voter’s minds it had nothing to say. That’s the last time a major party in this country bit the dust.
There are several big issues on people’s minds today and the Democrat party has a lot to say. It still represents a significant portion of the electorate. An insane portion, but significant.
The only way the Democrat party goes away is if the big money donors stop keeping it afloat. I think that is going to take a few more failing election cycles before that finally happens.
Yeah I don’t see the Democrats going away anytime soon. They will eventually regroup and rebrand. Will they have any new ideas or just be repackaging the same craziness? That’s what I’m wondering about. Also they need new better leadership and someone who doesn’t only have identity politics credentials as their new blood. Is that Fetterman, I don’t know? He doesn’t check their box of being pro Hamas and pro terrorism, so I doubt it. So they’d much prefer AOC, but she’s a polarizing idiot. Is it Newsome, Buttigieg, Whitmer? All are idiot snakes to me, but they are more likeable than Kamala-lama-ding-dong since they can articulate a complete thought. So it’s hard to say who their next leader will be that will really get their group going again. I’m sure they are praying for another Obama like figure. I know I’m hoping for the opposite. For a Democrat party that organically finds a new leader from it’s base that isn’t about their race, gender or sexuality, but is actually competent.
The thing they liked best about Obama was that he was exotic in his history while being a complete blank in his policy views as far as the public could tell. He said it himself in his 2008 campaign. “I serve as a blank screen on which people of vastly different political stripes project their own views.”
They somehow managed to do the same with Joe Biden thanks to Covid and his own dementia. They want a nothing so you can pretend he agrees with you.
Interesting point ! I didn’t see the thread there connecting Obama and Biden but basically you are saying they like hiding their viewpoints ; do you can imagine them to be your own.
the problem with democrats is that they are f’ing anti-american anti-west hating elitist globalists lunatics who put party over country and have ceded control of their party to bitter man hating feminazi white upper middle class cat ladies and angry black woman.
I say let them eat their own and self destruct. They are the party of hate, deceit and play on peoples emotions. That will never change. Based on the irrational melt downs and hysteria I see from the Dems I know, they aren’t going anywhere. We don’t need to give them pointers on winning back supporters. We need to stay strong and focused.
never interrupt your enemy when he is committing suicide
I’m tired of Fetterman. He votes 99% straight Dem party line, so whether he actually believes any of what he says is debatable,
“One of the most fascinating aspects of the 2024 election, was the shifting identities of the major political parties.”
I might disagree with your premise. What I think happened is that people began seeing with their own eyes what many of us conservatives have known for a very long time.
That said, I’d like to say that I was very wrong about John Fetterman. When he was running for office in the wake of his stroke he clearly wasn’t up to the task. That’s not the case today. He makes far more sense than his rabidly progressive colleagues (low bar, I know) to the point where it wouldn’t surprise me if he switched parties. He may have to if he wants to keep his seat.
I’d like to see some party, ANY party, start discussing men’s issues. The brutal treatment get in family court. This include unfounded accusationws of sexually abusing her, or the children with with no substantiation. The assumption of guilt when a trouble-making woman at work goes to HR with a complaint pulled out of thin air. The question of “choice” after a whoopsie pregnancy where the women hold all the cards.
Do either of the name-brand parties have the wherewithal to take on men’s issues?
I think men have a long wait on that one.,
[The assumption of guilt when a trouble-making woman at work goes to HR with a complaint pulled out of thin air.] – yes, this is number 1 in the workplace. The only thing Pence told people that was correct was to not even get into an elevator that has a woman unless you have your own witness.
He’s absolutely right, and yet there must be some Blasey-Ford in the wings just waiting for him to return to public life.
I meant to add: it was either JD Delay, or more likely Dan, the fellow who does Men Must Be Heard on YouTube, pointed out that virtually all of Trump’s male nominees have been accuse of sexual abuse of some sort.
That trick goes as far back as Daddy Bush and Clarence Thomas.
It is especially if the woman is black. It happens all the time. A woman at my wife’s workplace just made an accusation against a man for sexual harassment and he was immediately placed on leave. No evidence, no witnesses, he was just immediately barred from the workplace. Fortunately there was video of the time and location she claimed it happened and there was nothing. Turned out he was an ex boyfriend her new squeeze got in a fight with for some reason. Thankfully, she was terminated but the damage was done. Week without pay.
Welcome to the Republican Party, John.
What exactly is Fetterman suggesting?
That he’s a JFK or Reagan democrat?
That he’s an old school, pro blue collar, closed shop, unionist?
That he’s only for 1970’s styled immigration ?
That he’s for limited welfare?
That he thinks environmentalism has gone too far?
That he wants to invigorate and rebuild Pennsylvania’s heavy industry?
That he supports “responsible” mining and logging?
Because, obviously, none of those things are Democratic Party planks. It’s not like the Party changed after he was elected senator.
So, what the hell is he whining about? He might start and chair a senate caucus; Men at Work Doing Manly Things Caucus.
The logo would be man pushing a lawnmower.
And if any of those things came before him, Fetterman would vote straight Democrat party line. He talks but he doesn’t walk.
You said that upstream. I just want to hear things from his own mouth, but media keeps failing to ask the right questions.
He was on Rogan, but Rogan just chit-chats; Rogan asserts that doing so reveals the man behind the mask, but it doesn’t illuminate policy. It’s not a policy white paper.
Bleh. Chatting with scientists and sports figures is one thing, prying policy from politicians is another thing altogether.
The Rogan interview.
Rogan straight up asked Fetterman for policy details regarding border security, and Fetterman simply rope-a-doped Rogan. Rogan repeated the immigration question three times, and each time Fetterman returned to the ropes (prevarication/evasion.)
Tara Palmeri interview.
Palmeri asks Fetterman questions and Fetterman answers with scenic descriptions of specific events. That’s always his opening move.
Responding to follow up questions he goes to the ropes, or if one prefers Godfather references, he goes to the mattresses. It’s his dopey, regular Joe persona/mask.
Q: Pam Bondi (part 1)
A: Fetterman describes Bondi’s pedigree and past work history and then said he voted yes.
Q: Patel, RFKJr, Gabbard
A: literally hems and haws and settles on “no.” That’s it. And Palmeri moves on.
Which in itself tells you something about Fetterman and Rogan was smart to do that exposing the lack of responses.
I am a conservative Republican…. But sometimes I like this guy.
He treats his political opponents as just that: opponents. The rest of his party treats their opponents as racist rapists who want to enslave children to work in the mines.
He’s all right. He just shines by comparison.
Fetterman’s definitely a Dem, but he’s willing to call out his own side when they’re being egregiously stupid, which has led to him clashing publicly with ‘The Squad’ several times. I think he sees the schism between the Old Guard (Pelosi, Schumer, etc.) and the loony left (AOC, Crockett, etc.) and is positioning himself as a common-sense middle ground guy. Whether that’s because he genuinely loves his party and wants to hold it together or he sees himself emerging as the dominant force or some combination remains to be seen.
