Israel Confirms Hostage Deal Reached With Hamas
Trump on Truth Social: “We have a deal.”

Fifteen months after the horrific attacks of October 7, 2023, a deal has been reached for the release of Israeli hostages languishing in Hamas captivity. “Senior Hamas official Basem Naim confirms to reporters that the terror group has accepted a ceasefire and hostage release deal with Israel,” The Times of Israel reported Wednesday afternoon.
President-elect Donald Trump announced the agreement on Truth Social. “We have a deal,” he declared, adding that the hostages “will be release shortly.”
The Associated Press reported the details:
Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza and the release dozens of hostages after more than 15 months of war. (…)
Israel announced late Wednesday that Hamas had tried to change agreed-upon understandings for security arrangements along Gaza’s border with Egypt. It strongly rejected the proposals.
Qatar’s prime minister, who has been mediating the talks, met separately with Hamas and Israeli delegations, and shortly afterwards, the dispute was resolved, the Qatari official said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss behind-the-scenes negotiations.
The Hamas official, also speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the matter was resolved.
The Biden White House also issued a statement welcoming to agreement:

Under the agreed framework, Israel will withdraw its ground troops from Gaza in phases. This will allow Gaza residents, and worryingly, the Hamas terrorists, to move across the enclave unchecked.
The Israeli news website YNET reported that “the first phase of the agreement will last for six weeks and include a gradual withdrawal of IDF troops from central Gaza and the return of displaced Gaza residents to the northern areas of the Strip.”
This hostages-for-terrorists deal will reportedly lead to the release of a large number of Palestinian terrorists, including convicted murderers. “Hamas will release 33 hostages including all of the women, IDF soldiers among them, the two Bibas children and men over the age of 50,” the news outlet added.
🚨Summary of the deal:
6 weeks of ceasefire
Gradual withdrawal of the IDF from the Gaza Strip
600 humanitarian trucks will enter the Gaza Strip
Hams will release 33 Israeli hostages
Israel will release 30 terrorists in exchange for each kidnapped civilian, and Israel will… https://t.co/8fgF8XLa7O

Just like in the past, Hamas cannot be trusted to keep its part of the deal. The terrorist group made new demands at the final stages of the negotiations. In late November 2023, Hamas broke a similar hostages-for-terrorists deal, ambushing Israeli troops in Gaza and staging a deadly terrorist attack in Jerusalem.
The Israeli TV channel i24NEWS reported Hamas’s bid to extract more last-minute concessions from Israel:
According to the Israeli Prime Minister’s office, “In the face of Benjamin Netanyahu’s firmness, Hamas has withdrawn its last-minute request concerning the redeployment of forces on the Philadelphia axis.”
The statement, however, specifies that “several points still remain to be finalized in the agreement” and that the details should be settled during the night.
Israeli government will formally endorse the deal after deliberations on Thursday morning. Prime Minister Netanyahu-led “security cabinet will meet tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. to approve the ceasefire and hostage release agreement,” the i24NEWS disclosed in a separate report Wednesday.

Wow.
How very reganesque of Trump.
And how humiliating for Biden.
How so?
Trump pressured Israel to formally surrender on Hamas remaining the government of Gaza and getting unlimited control of Gaza it had before the war started.
Do not fool yourself Israel went to war to get the hostages back and extirpate Hamas from Gaza at minimum, and got a fraction of the hostages taken (note the corpses that are being returned in later phases).
Israel had to be heavily pressured by Trump to agree to Hamas winning which it without doubt did.
If Hamas is dumb enough to break the agreement Israel gets another shot at eliminating them but nobody is that stupid.
The Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity, so yeah–they are dumb enough to break the agreement. It’s all in the timing. Never changes, and yet we keep falling for it.
I’m just not seeing it. October 7th style attacks are what they want (they say so themselves) and what they actually try to achieve (again according to themselves).
If they violate a ceasefire now they will end up being eliminated and never having the opportunity again, losing their fiefdom, and losing the billions in international dollars shoveled into them each year.
I do agree Arab states have historically made horrible decisions against their interests for ideological reasons (or in some case just not wanting to end up murdered like the king of Jordan) but the degree of stupidity that would be involved here is just too hard a sell for me to see happening.
Are you kidding me? This is what they do like clockwork…have you paid attention to anything that Hamas or Hezbollah has done before Oct 7th?
@healthguyfsu
Did they attack the moment the last ceasefire was made or did they wait till ready to launch a much deadlier and more brutal attack the next time?
They rebuild with the resources the international community give them, taxes from Gaza, and the resources their allies send them and attack when they are ready.
Since October 7th they have been at war and willing to take any amount of casualties to weaken the Jews.
And boy have they weakened Israel. Trump may be in the process of changing the Israel outlook of the Republican Party to match the Democratic Party.
Next war will be against an incomparably weaker Israel.
Even if Trump comes to his senses the loss of the bipartisan consensus in America alone is a devastating loss for Israel.
Except that they violated a ceasefire they had in place to launch the October 7th attack, resulting in this current war. Why would they have done that, risking billions and losing their fiefdom?
Ideology is an overwhelming state of mind. They can (and likely will) violate their new ceasefire.
“nobody us that. stupid”
Don’t make book on it.
Hamas has unlimited control of Gaza from about 2006. Long before Trump.
And for the last year it has not had that control. Now it’s getting it back, thanks to Trump.
They lost that control during this war and would have been eliminated if Biden and Trump had not desired for them to remain in control.
This war was very decisively and totally won by Hamas.
Because Trump isn’t even President and Hamas gave in! Imagine if Biden had been more concerned about Americans imprisoned by Hamas than he was about retaining Muslim voters!
Had Biden shown balls from the very beginning the hostages may still be alive. But he didn’t and they died.
So go sit back down sweetie as it’s going to be a very long 12-16 years before another Democrat gets a shot at the White House! Pace yourself darling 😂😂
Hamas did not give in. It survives to fight another day, which Netanyahu swore up and down it would never be allowed to do. It gets to keep hostages for some time; the only acceptable release deal is release them all, at once.
And worst of all it gets to be the people’s hero by achieving the release of over 1000 bloodthirsty terrorists, which guarantees it will win any election that is held.
The koran allows them to make a treaty with infidels for up to 10 yrs (I think but it may be 7) as long as you use the time to rebuild, rearm and prepare to attack again at the end of the treaty. So that is what they are doing. 10 yrs will take them past Trump and the next president. Generally after 2 terms of republicans the public asks why we need to do those things, the economy is good again, let more people in, everyone forgets the 4 Biden yrs and votes to repeat it. Then Hamas will attack again.
They live to fight another day 😂😂
Sweetie, the world changes on Monday and that means no more rubber stamp support from the WH for the UN or UNRWA and no more safe haven in Qatar and no more money from Iran and especially no more support from Hesbullah, which Hamas helped destroy 😂😂
The people who not only felt that a deal of the hostages for Hamas remaining in power wasn’t worth waiting for and only some of the hostages in return for that and releasing Hamas convicts would drink a bottle of arsenic before voting Netanyahu.
The right is pissed at him to and furthermore would much rather get rid of him than risk Trump making the anti-Israel position his permanent one.
There doesn’t seem like a path to political survival for Netanyahu.
Hamas did not give in.
Hamas won, this was Biden’s forced surrender on Israel being imposed by Trump pressure (note that not only is it a horrible deal not even every hostage?).
What is the Israeli victory? Italian sanctions? British sanctions? Irish sanctions? French sanctions? Polish sanctions? I could actually list the number of nations that did not sanction Israel and that it is not permanently exterminated in they are the Czech Republic, Hungary, Greece, Argentina and the United States (although Israel is very clearly damaged by the end of the bipartisan consensus so any fair assessment of the war will make it clear it is extremely damaged even in the United States).
Is it the fact that Australia now considers IDF personnel to be war criminals and bans them from entry as it did recently?
Again I could go on. For how low Israel is seen in the west today some comparisons could be it is seen worst than Russia which westerners perceive as being suppressed and forced to do bad by Vladimir Putin (Westerners are aware Israel is a democracy and see it as radical and evil). To find a comparison you could say Serbia during the Clinton Administration or South Africa during apartheid for how weak Israel is as a result of the war fallout.
What Israel achieved was a first step towards delegitimization at a systemic level in the west, not only the death of the American consensus on Israel but potentially now the death of the Republican counter to the anti-Israel democrats, nothing whatsoever in Gaza (everything will be rebuilt, Palestinians are already flocking to the Hamas banner and are eagerly refilling to ranks of dead canon fodder)…..
You do realize that the major damage Hamas inflicted on Israel in the west could easily be permanent while Hamas will have everyone replaced within a matter of hours right?
This was one promise broken prior to entering the White House.
I hope granting Hamas an absolute and total and overwhelming victory is the end of Trump’s changing sides but do not delude yourself. Short of a secret super great side benefit promised that is what it was.
Hamas won so biggly that they destroyed the only organisations keeping them alive 😂😂
That’s a great take sweetie 😂😂
Yes, Hamas won. They don’t care about any of that; to them this is what victory looks like. They faced down the enemy, killed over 2000 of them (half civilians and half soldiers, but to them there’s no difference), and exploited the enemy’s weakness and softness, which they despise. They practically worship death and don’t care how many lives they lose.
@mailmain
milhouse explained it perfectly.
What Hamas cares about is weakening Israel (mission very thoroughly accomplished) keeping their stronghold of Gaza (mission accomplished).
They lost easily replaced fodder and permanently weakened Israel on the international stage.
Right now the list of places Israel is not thoroughly sanctioned doesn’t even reach ten, not only is the bipartisan American consensus on Israel history it is far from clear that Trump is pro-Israel (see his reposting the disgusting Professor Sachs explaining how the Iraq War and Syrian Civil War was started by Israel and that America is not a Democracy).
Hamas also will be the organization that decides what the casualties are and control all information about the war because it did end up in control of Gaza in the end so……
If you are going to claim tactical victories are what makes a war won or lost fine we the Americans won the Vietnam War, we won the Iraq War and the Afghanistan War to, not to mention how flawlessly the French won in Algiers and Tunisia. You could win every engagement (i.e. the French in North Africa) and lose the war.
That is what happened here.
I hope Trump comes to his senses but right now Israel is weaker than Serbia the day after her war with the United States ended. She has a significantly worst reputation than RUSSIA does in the West.
Again Hamas won decisively.
The idea they will turn around and invite their destruction instead of building up to being ready first is a cope and a fantasy.
On the contrary, Trump forced Israel to agree to BIden’s awful proposal. That’s giving Biden an undeserved victory.
Netanyahu is responsible for the awful Shalit deal that directly led to the 2023 massacre. All the thousand plus who were killed on that day, plus the over a thousand soldiers who have been lost in this war, are his fault.
And now he will be responsible for the hundreds or thousands who will be killed as a result of this deal. And so will Trump.
The very act of negotiating with Hamas and treating it as a legitimate actor is a victory for it. And allowing it to continue to exist and hold power, or compete for power, is a key component of Biden’s proposal which Trump has now given him a win on.
The Allies could have had peace with Germany in 1944 if they’d been willing to do such deals, but they had the strength of character to fight another year in order to achieve complete victory and destroy the evil.
So many “authorities.” Comparing this to 1944 is ridiculous.
Releasing those terrorists without passing them through a radiological screening is a huge mistake.
Maybe they’ll all be given pagers before release.
Has Biden claimed credit, yet?
If you look at the MSM news, then yeah–they are pretty much implying “he did this.”
And they’re right. He got the “deal” he wanted, which is awful.
This was the deal Biden has been fighting for from the start and which Netanyahu did not want to concede (Hamas gets to keep Gaza and be granted an absolute victory while Israel gets some hostages back and Hamas gets terrorists released, and everything reverts to what Hamas wants, Israel is still permanently damaged perhaps beyond repair by the war fallout and has a incomparably worst situation).
Biden deserves credit. He set the end goal, and achieved it.
Personally I think the sooner Hamas and other extremists are replaced by advocates of peace and coexistence the better but if you love the cycle of violence that Hamas does whenever it gets strong enough this is a wonderful deal.
His djt second mistake. After announcing the imam would do the benediction. Cmon man
I have read that this is the deal offered by Israel last May.
Given that all of Gaza is Hamas, other than relocating the entire population it isn’t clear what the choice for Israel is. Hopefully Israel will ban terrorist-allied organizations like UNRWA from operating in Gaza and continuing the indoctrination of children into eternal jihad/genocide..
Israel better take control of the Egyptian border though. Even forcing regime change in Iran won’t be sufficient with an Islamist Turkey now ascendent.
Part of the agreement is Israel getting out of the Rafah Crossing
Not according to reports–Rafah will be jointly admininstered by the IDF and the Egyptians.
Nobody should trust Hamas to live up to their agreement here
Like Hesbullah 😂
Hamas is Al Qaeda is ISIS
They are all the same
This is a horrible deal, not even all the hostages and oral gives up too much
Come Monday it is a different world thanks to the American people saying enough is enough to Democrats.
As we know, elections have consequences and for Hamas that means no more friendly Democrats in the WH and no more support from the UN (being rubber stamped by Biden). The game is over for Hamas and their backers in Qatar and Iran.
Hamas no longer has support from Iran and no longer has cover from Hesbullah and the funniest thing is Hamas only has itself to blame for this monumental shift in power in the Middle East 😂
Turkey is fully backing Hamas and Iran has a record of being great at resupplying them.
Short of the Iranian government being overthrown Hamas has lost nothing.
The disadvantage of having a canon fodder army is in battle it will perform poorly against motivated well trained men who have authorities that intend on them coming home.
The advantage is if you win it really doesn’t matter how many of them you lose.
There is no Iran any more and their money dries up even harder than a leftist male’s vagina come Monday.
Hamas is Gaza and Gaza is Hamas. Any attempt to ignore that will just mean that another 10/7 is coming.
Any answers other than throwing out the Arabs or Israel accepting more decades of vile terror attacks?
Yes it is called reconstruction under authorities that aren’t Hamas or UNRWA that teach for coexistence and a bright future as a different country than Israel.
Nazism was Germany in 1945, today Germany has a tiny amount of anti-Semitism mostly housed from immigrant communities, is a great economy that relies on brainpower instead of brawn with engineers designing and exporting things we need and love instead of figuring out the best next way to kill Americans.
Y’all don’t get excited. The Hamas savages will be unable to help themselves. Their behavior is their nature. They will violate the cease fire, giving Israel an opening wide enough to sail an aircraft carrier through to resume pounding Gaza into dust. They’ve done it before. Is there a reason to think they’ll stop now?
I wonder if Israel will bulldoze a no mans land a kilometer or two wide inside the Gaza border so they can spot movement. Seeding that area with vibration sensors to detect underground burrowing would be a good idea, too.
.
The problem with that is a lot of us think Hamas is intelligent enough to wait till they are strong enough to successfully pull it off again and that the fallout on Israel will be enough potentially fatal to Israel the next time.
Lets pretend you are Hamas.
Why on Earth wouldn’t you wait till you are ready to pull all of this off again instead of getting yourself eliminated from Gaza and so relevance ever again?
Perhaps once the hostage matter is over, Israel will have more free rein.
Perhaps once the Abraham Accords resume, there will be greater pressure on Palestinians to get with the program.
The point is, who knows where this goes, although some act as if they know it all.
Pressure in Palestinians to join the 21st century is the one thing that has been missing in all of this!
The time tables are designed specifically to make that an impossibility.
It is over Hamas has won.
Time goes on after the tables, however.
In order to that assure the criminals Israel is releasing back to Hamas are in good health, Israel should make sure all 1300 of them are current with their vaccinations, including all of the COVID boosters, plus any other mRNA substances that Pfizer and Moderna are trying to get rid of.
Terrible deal. A surrender to Hamas who will regroup and attack again when they build back up. Israel gets 33 hostages back while while Hamas get around 1,000 terrorists, cutthroats, murders … How is this any kind of a reasonable exchange? Did Trump bully Israel? Is this the “art of the deal.”
The best solution for Israel is the total elimination of Arabs from Gaza. Either expel them, or annihilate them. Israel gets falsely accused of genocide all the time. Well time to show the world what a real genocide looks like. Would the US have accepted anything like this to end WWII? No we wanted unconditional surrender no matter how many Germans or Japanese we killed. We backed up the threat with nuclear weapons.
I have about had it with Trump. I suspect we are getting old wine in new bottles. I will wait and see and give him a chance. Musk and Ramaswamy have insulted the US calling American tech workers inferior to Indians. Meanwhile Tesla lays off American tech workers and hires more H-1Bs. Musk has a conflict of interest. Meanwhile Trump lies to us about always being in favor of h-1Bs.
not quite finalized. O matter what you Hear
Apparently, taking hostages works.
Oh good, it’s good to see that the Israelis still haven’t learned their lessons when dealing with Arab terrorists and will now engage in yet another pointless “ceasefire” giving Hamas and its supporters time to regroup and rearm before continuing hostilities against Israel and the Jews.
I give this “ceasefire” less than a year before Hamas violates the “ceasefire” and starts their terroristic shenanigans once again. Guaranteed.
A year? More like a month, tops.
.
Do you know a 12 year let alone an adult who would be that thick?
Like a president who tried four times to pay off student loans with public money and got hammered by the Supreme Court every time?
I think we all know one.
No, he didn’t. He was stopped once, so he tried a different route to the same goal.
Milhouse just answered you but stop pretending Israel didn’t lose the war and that the reason wasn’t Trump adopted the Biden foreign policy.
Trump didn’t even force Hamas to give back every hostage which by definition means this is a total defeat on everything.
Some of the hostages are there for life or will be killed shortly some will be released Hamas gets to attack again only when it is fully prepared and Israel will be weaker.
Trump’s reposting a Columbia professor who is essentially a Groyper a week ago shows this could very easily be a change in Trump/Trump may have been lying to us the entire election cycle about being the pro-Israel candidate in the race.
Israel has sentenced some of the hostages to life sexual enslavement in return for 33 of them, and has permitted Hamas and Hezbollah to have all the time they want to get ready for the next war.
Trump shattered a campaign promise before he even entered the White House. This is not cause for celebration and I am unwilling to be delusional.
I was trying to be optimistic but you’re probably correct.
And then the Hamas group threw a wrench into it with new demands.
