Biden’s Recent Fall Has Some Progressives Calling for a Contested Democratic Primary

“[S]ome top Democrats have privately been saying for months that they’re nervous about Biden tripping again on the trail. Today he did”

Joe Biden’s most recent fall looked like a pretty serious situation, and despite efforts by the media to spin it as nothing, people on the left are clearly nervous about it.

Some are even calling for opening up the Democrat nomination to primary challenges.

The Daily Caller reports:

‘This Isn’t Fair To Anyone’: Liberals Respond To Biden’s Tumble, Call For Contested Democratic Primary

Liberals are renewing their calls for a fair and contested Democratic presidential primary Thursday after President Joe Biden fell on stage during the U.S. Air Force Academy’s graduation ceremony.

Widely shared video footage showed Biden walking on stage in a suit and baseball cap when he fell to the ground and required assistance to get back up.

The president was helped to his feet by three people and the White House later attributed his tumble to a sandbag on stage. His latest fall renewed concerns about his age and sparked calls from liberals for the Democratic primary to be an open process.

“[S]ome top Democrats have privately been saying for months that they’re nervous about Biden tripping again on the trail. Today he did,” Axios journalist Alex Thompson tweeted.

Left wing pundit, Kyle Kulinsky:

Cenk Uygur of the Young Turks:

Just two days before Biden’s fall, Dawson’s Creek actor James Van Der Beek was criticizing the DNC for not having a primary debate.

FOX News reported:

Actor James Van Der Beek bashes DNC for refusing to hold Biden debate: ‘How is this a democracy?’

Actor James Van Der Beek blasted the Democratic National Committee for planning on foregoing primary debates between President Joe Biden and other presidential contenders for 2024.

“I mean, what the hell? How is this a democracy?” Van Der Beek said in a viral TikTok filmed on Memorial Day with over 49,500 likes.

“I cannot get over the fact that the Democratic National Committee is saying there will not be a debate to decide the nominee for president. Are you f—ing kidding me? There’s no debate?” Van Der Beek said.

“There’s no debate over an 80-year-old man who, if he lives, will be the oldest sitting president in the history of the country? And if he doesn’t live, has a vice president whose approval rating is worse than his?” he added, taking a shot at Vice President Kamala Harris.

Here’s the video:

Democrats have spent the last five years portraying themselves as the nation’s defenders of democracy.

Shouldn’t they want a contested primary?

My view is that even if Biden can run marathons he ought to have to deal with primary challengers. I know, many incumbents try to avoid that as a tactical matter. But the voters deserve to hear all available candidates in every election.

That includes third party candidates. Hey, if they’re so lame then the “major” party candidates should be able to easily trounce them in debates, yes?

Hey, remember the 1968 Democrat Convention in Chicago, where (as a result of all that sweet street spiciness) the party pledged to their constituents that they would no longer choose their candidate in smoke-filled rooms, but adhere to a strict public primary process?

    Good times!

I remember that pledge. And I remember that the next convention chose George McGovern as their candidate for President.

OTOH, Biden/Harris would be the first major party nomination worse than McGovern/Eagleton if the news media weren’t working so hard to cover up their failings.

There’s no way Biden could run, walk, in any marathon. It’s so unfair to the American people to stay in office when he’s one fall away from the grave.

I always thought the Dems would offer Kamala a position and maybe cash to voluntarily step down from the VP job and not run. It would need to be done so carefully and stealthily.

It looked like more of a dive than a fall.

‘Not that kind of democracy’/s

The d/prog want the appearance of democracy. The same sort of thing that lapsed Catholics participate in at Easter or Christmas. Sure they show up for appearances sake but ain’t really all that committed to the underlying ideals.

The democrats should claim that Biden is a super genius who has simply lost control of his bodily functions due to ALS-just like Stephen Hawking. That way he can give frequent, lengthy press conferences while twitching his drooling head in a wheel chair. George Soros can answer his questions remotely via a mechanical voice alteration machine while Biden snarls his gums at the camera and scouts girls to sniff. No dog-faced, pony soldiers allowed, but clean negroes welcome.

Now they’re concerned about his legs, but they’ve never been concerned about his mind.

I didn’t read the article but a headline said Facebook and Instagram have blocked RFK. Musk has invited him over to Facebook for the event the other two blocked.

Some Progressives are calling for a contested Democratic primary.

Biden said he was not falling for it.

Said the Scarecrow: Who cares if he can walk, if only he had a brain.

    Peabody in reply to jb4. | June 2, 2023 at 4:51 pm

Said Biden when asked why he can’t walk: If only I had a brain I wouldn’t have accepted that money from China. So I’m practicing wearing leg irons in case I have to go to prison.

The clown show continues:

Macron has awarded Mark Milley France’s highest medal of honor:

Isn’t it the law in some states that major parties have to hold a primary?

The Gentle Grizzly | June 2, 2023 at 4:32 pm

Does van de4r Beek have a really big head, or was that photo done with a fish-eye lens?

On topic: it’s too bad there isn’t a Democrat candidate with the guts to stage a debate where one podium is labeled “Biden” and no one is standing at it. A. variation on the theme of what Clint Eastwood did.

“How is this a democracy?”

Well, that’s sort of the point. It isn’t. Never was.

Could be interesting if Kamala ascends to the presidency before the election season starts. One wonders if the democrats would suddenly be in favor a primary instead of rallying around an “incumbent” – she is just as incompetent and unpopular, but not a white male. Wouldn’t this run contrary to the DEI crap for which they have been advocating?

The vile and totalitarian Dumb-o-crats prize gaining and holding power, above all else. That explains the mainstream media lapdogs’/trained seals’/propagandists’ dutiful and perennial wagon-circling, obfuscation and indifference to dotard-marionette, Biden’s, and, Fetterman’s glaring cognitive, physical and mental declines.

Well, Kamala is second in command…of something and she could run. That old Trot Bernie Sanders is probably rested and ready to give it the ‘old comrade’s try’.

South Carolina has already declared Biden the winner by a huge margin. /s

Whatever, even if the GOPe wins, the Overton Window will shift again. Guess which direction.
.

The issue is not Biden’s body. They can always put him in a wheelchair. The issue is Biden’s mental stamina. Can he function cognitively for 10 hours a day? To demonstrate this he has to campaign vigorously. Well, it is obvious that he cannot and he is unlikely to last another 6 years. Even a partisan Democrat can see this.

    henrybowman in reply to cwillia1. | June 3, 2023 at 6:03 pm

But a partisan Democrat doesn’t care.
Biden, or his string operators, or Soros, or Pee Wee Herman, it doesn’t matter, it’s all good.
Anybody but a Republican, so they can go back to sleep.
