Nordstrom Closing Two Stores in San Francisco, Citing Crime and Safety Issues

“citing the ‘dynamics’ of the downtown market as the region continues to see a rash of retail thefts by brazen thieves”

It’s another week, and another retailer is leaving San Francisco due to crime. Nordstrom is closing their two locations in the city and urging leaders to do something about the conditions that led to their decision.

The FOX Business Network reports:

Nordstrom closing 2 San Francisco stores, cites ‘dynamics’ of downtown area

Nordstrom will close both of its downtown San Francisco stores in the coming months, citing the “dynamics” of the downtown market as the region continues to see a rash of retail thefts by brazen thieves.

In a memo to employees, Chief Stores Officer Jamie Nordstrom said the company will not renew its lease for its San Francisco Centre Nordstrom store and the Market Street Rack store across the street.

“We’ve spent more than 35 years serving customers in downtown San Francisco, building relationships with them and investing in the local community,” the message said. “But as many of you know, the dynamics of the downtown San Francisco market have changed dramatically over the past several years, impacting customer foot traffic to our stores and our ability to operate successfully.”

The last day of business for the Market Street Rack will be July 1, and the San Francisco Centre location will close at the end of August.

The Westfield mall, where the downtown Nordstrom is located, and its owner, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, said the closures “underscores the deteriorating situation in Downtown San Francisco,” the San Francisco Standard reported.

“A growing number of retailers and businesses are leaving the area due to the unsafe conditions for customers, retailers, and employees, coupled with the fact that these significant issues are preventing an economic recovery of the area,” a mall spokesperson said.

Just last month, Whole Foods announced it was closing its flagship store in San Francisco just a year after opening, and for similar reasons. This is happening in other liberal cities, too.

These closures hurt poor people more than anyone, and the left just doesn’t care.

Here’s a local video report:

Democrat policies on crime are destroying life in Democrat-run cities.

When will taxpayers and voters reach their limit?

I wonder how much trouble it is to insure a retail establishment in San Fransisco these days. The premiums are probably prohibitive.

Maybe the retailers in SF should reach out to the Triads for security and deterrence. It isn’t as if the govt is getting it done and when they willfully create a vacuum for normal services then others fill the gap.

At least two foolish people seem to be opposed to using private arrangements in place of failed govt efforts. Deliberate efforts mind you on the part of SF political leaders to ensure the most basic part of the social contract; public safety, was a failure.

Bend over and take it, which is ultimately the position of these fools, doesn’t seem like an attractive option. Do these fools also oppose private firearms ownership and any ability for the public to resist the bonfires being set by those unleashing anarchy?

Redistributive change without accountability.

… will invariably force a progressive condition.

Eventually even the most woke retard has to wake up to the fact that if they’re and losing more to shrinkage than they make in profits, they’re not going to be able to stay in business.

Simple change of wording, more accurate, generates tons of fun. Try calling it “sustainable” vs. “stay in business.” All the connotations flip.

      /Like this…

      “The location isn’t sustainable.”

      “Whaddya mean?”

“Taking more out than going in; those stores are extraction operations. Not holding themselves up, or even part of a community holding itself up.”

      “Blah, blah, blah, reparations, downtrodden…”

“Well, when they’re doing extraction for their own use, pulled out of the store, the operation collapses. Works like an over-fished ecosystem.”

“Blah, blah, blah, corporatism, evil, whatever…”

“Oh, maybe I am Scrooge McDuck. In any case, I’m not smart enough to make those stores work, the way things are there, where they are. If you figure something out, I’d love to hear it. We don’t gain anything — even as rapacious oligarch capitalist exploiters — without stores that work.”

      Etc.

It’s the same reason I tend to avoid using the word “money.” The word means different things to different people, especially in the connotations. Hard to have any kind of useful conversation.

Ah, those ‘dynamics’ of the downtown…marketing people have their own corp speak. Job one, run it by the lawyers first.

Some enterprising sculptor could create statues of “brazen thieves” to replace the statues torn down by leftist activists.

It’s chaos everywhere, and all by design. Remember the idiots in Congress who egged-on rioters in 2020: namely Sandy Fetterman aka AOC.

We thought Antifa and BLM goons were the ones to watch, but it’s turning our there’s an army of mentally ill transvestites looking to kill, as well as an army of mentally ill street lunatics in every city, as well as a growing army of leftists who trying to destroy the Supreme court, – literally.

It’s only going to get worse.

“Democrat policies on crime are destroying life in Democrat-run cities.”

All according to plan.

“Color dynamics.”

Hey, Nordstrom. If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. Have you even considered offering Louis Vuitton, pooper scooper bags on sale?

Re: When will taxpayers and voters reach their limit?

Answer: Voters – never. Those with half a brain will move away, leaving the Democrats still in control of a smaller number of people.

I hear all this, you know, ‘Well, this is class warfare, this is whatever.’ No. There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own — nobody. You built a factory out there? Good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police-forces and fire-forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn’t have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory — and hire someone to protect against this — because of the work the rest of us did. Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea. God bless — keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is, you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along. — Liz Warren, Sept 21, 2011

How quickly they forget their own social contract.

That social contract speech was fascinating. If all she wanted to do was tax businesses to pay for roads, police and fire services, she be a libertarian somewhere to the right of Rand Paul.

Sometimes Fauxcahontis says the quiet part out loud: all these social contracts and the like, she’s their spokesthing representive, spouting whatever she intuits these things to be.

She embodies the spirit of the people, the culture, the volk, if you will. Leading with her superior perception of the zeitgeist. What’ s the saying again? “Scratch a progressive, and under the paint you find a…”

All the SF assholes who would otherwise shop at Nordstrom’s get all their gear online anyway.

Besides, isn’t this fulfilling the vision of the tech oligarchs in their beloved City by the Bay? Destroy the actual public square and have everyone cowering in their traps. Meanwhile, from your tastefully renovated Victorian on Nob Hill you can order dinner from Uber Eats, then murder the driver when he’s late. You can swipe right and have a hooker come to your place, then murder her and keep her body in your high-end walk-in freezer as you plan for your “Titus Andronicus”-themed dinner party.

You needn’t hazard the streets of your neighborhood at all. And if you do want to venture outside your fortified compound to see what’s going on with your own eyeballs out of the range of your Nest camera, you have an app that tells you where piles of human excrement have been observed.

SF and the Bay Area is the setting for the real “American Psycho,” with Christian Bale wearing Birkenstocks and smoking dank buds instead of wearing Armani and drinking martinis.
