China’s former Top Scientists Indicates Covid Pandemic May Have Origins in Lab Leak

The saga into covid’s origins continues.

From the start of the covid pandemic to the present day, Legal Insurrection has been monitoring developments in the investigation of the origins of the novel coronavirus known as the SARS-Cov-2 virus.

I started in February 2020, when I noted that Chinese university researchers believed the virus might originate from a government laboratory in Wuhan.

Other sign-posts on the road to reaching this sensible conclusion are:

The saga continues, as a top Chinese government scientist says the possibility that the covid virus leaked from a laboratory should not be ruled out.

As head of China’s Centre for Disease Control (CDC), Prof George Gao played a key role in the pandemic response and efforts to trace its origins.

China’s government dismisses any suggestion the disease may have originated in a Wuhan laboratory.

But Prof Gao is less forthright.

In an interview for the BBC Radio 4 podcast Fever: The Hunt for Covid’s Origin, Prof Gao says: “You can always suspect anything. That’s science. Don’t rule out anything.”

A world-leading virologist and immunologist, Prof Gao is now vice-president of the National Natural Science Foundation of China after retiring from the CDC last year.

Gao indicated that a formal investigation into the theory at the Wuhan Institute of Virology was completed, suggesting Chinese officials did take the idea more seriously than it let on.

“The government organized something,” Gao said, adding that it did not involve his previous department.

He said he hasn’t seen the results of the investigation but has “heard” that the lab was cleared.

“I think their conclusion is that they are following all the protocols,” he said. “They haven’t found [any] wrongdoing.”

The lab-leak theory has gained traction in the U.S., with the Energy Department and the FBI supporting the idea. But four other agencies and a national intelligence panel said they believe the pandemic likely started with natural transmission from animal to human.

Unfortunately, some media outlets continue to insinuate that a lab leak was the potential origin of the pandemic is a fringe theory. For example, Politico:

One of the running hypotheses — which started as a fringe conspiracy touted by former U.S. President Donald Trump — is that the virus was leaked from a Chinese laboratory.

In a piece discussing the US Energy Department’s assessment that a lab leak was the most likely source of covid, Professor Jacobson noted:

The evidence is not conclusive because there has been a three-year cover-up by the Chinese government. The proof to a reasonable degree of certainly may never be found because it’s been destroyed.

Yet, this is an intriguing trial balloon that suggests more information may be revealed that the Chinese may want to get ahead of. Stay tuned!

You don’t say…

And I read that it wasn’t a level 4 lab, but a level 2

Much like your dentists office as far as taking any precautions

Thank you Fauci

And just think, we are finding hundreds of these labs all over the world!

I read that the BSL-4 lab was ready for used until March 2020, so it had to be something less secure.

Not a surprise. One need only read Nicholas Wade’s 2021 account to understand why the natural theory was bogus.

“Lab Leak Theory”

Makes it sound like it was an unfortunate accident. The lab had a tiny hole and the virus leaked out. But that’s not the critical point. The smoking gun is the admission that:

1. The virus came from a lab
2. And the lab was in China.

That’s all we need to know.

Q: Given that coronavirus research in most places is done in BSL-2 or BSL-3
labs–and indeed, you WIV didn’t even have an operational BSL-4 until recently–
why would you do any coronavirus experiments under BSL-4 conditions?
A: The coronavirus research in our laboratory is conducted in BSL-2 or BSL-3
laboratories.
After the BSL-4 laboratory in our institute has been put into operation, in
accordance with the management regulations of BSL-4 laboratory, we have
trained the scientific researchers in the BSL-4 laboratory using the low-
pathogenic coronaviruses as model viruses, which aims to prepare for
conducting the experimental activities of highly pathogenic microorganisms.

Subj/verb agreement

Welcome to the party, pal!

May?

The only ‘theory’ left is that it was a LEAK and not a release.

I need to listen to the BBC podcast: Fever.

Note – I’ve not followed the news concerning covid19 origins since its obvious it came from a lab in China.

The BBC exploring other Covid origins:

A wild bat?
A wild raccoon dog?
A wet market animal (Wuhan)?
A bio lab(s) in Ukraine (American)?

Pretty thin guel. The BBC have always been a propaganda mill. But now I’m interested in exactly how it is disseminating the Official Narrative.

I would use my ‘shocked face’ but Sarah Hoyt has it on loan.

Does anyone notice how cagey Gao is? It could have been a lab leak because anything in science is possible, he says. He implies, though, I don’t think so. Cleverly ambiguous.

And wouldn’t you be ambiguous if you were a Chinese scientist and making the claim that The Covid pandemic was the result of a lab leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology knowing full well that you could end up in a CCP gulag for the rest of your life or dead if it annoys a certain president in Beijing? I’m surprised he made any statement at all under the circumstances.

JackinSilverSpring in reply to Lucifer Morningstar. | May 31, 2023 at 10:48 pm

That’s one possibility. The other is that he’s a spokesman for the CCP showing how open minded they are while simultaneously downplaying the possibility of a lab leak.

The two federal grants that Fauci issued are a matter of public record. I’ve read them. The second one, in particular, specifically directs the Wuhan lab to perform research on corona viruses from bats to see if they can be made to be transmissible among humans. That was “gain of function” research, according to NIH (and everyone else’s) definition at the time – which was illegal under federal law.

The Wuhan Lab, and the also the “bat lady” Doctor in charge of it, were also specifically prohibited from receiving federal funding at the time. The reason was their complete lack of even the most basic safety protocols (their level of “safety” required merely wearing the same type of paper masks you see your Dentist wearing). But, there was a loophole – they could receive grants if the Director of the granting agency signed a waiver. That would have been, again, Fauci.

Wuhan Flu was the appropriate name for it at the time, following the standard convention of naming diseases after the location of their initial outbreak (like, say, Ebola, or the Spanish Flu). Goes back centuries.

Fauci’s Flu would be more appropriate – since the virus that was leaked was a genetically engineered variant of a bat corona virus and was created at his behest.

The fact is: Anthony Fauci is the greatest mass murderer in world history. And he walks around free as a bird to this day, with virtually unanimous support from leftists everywhere.

Speaking of lab leaks, it seems we had one here in the US, back when Obama was disgracing the WH.

The ebola outbreak that happened that year – the strain of the virus that people got infected by hadn’t been seen in many years. Viruses constantly mutate, and the strain of the virus people were infected by wasn’t any of the recent variants that still exist naturally.

So, where do you find an old strain that hasn’t mutated at all in years? Frozen in a lab where they do research on them. Someone got infected by it in one of those labs, and then it spread from there. Just like Covid did from the Wuhan lab.
