U. Pittsburgh Students Protest Speech By Female Athlete Who Opposes Men in Women’s Sports

“Gaines, a former collegiate swimmer, spoke in front of roughly 70 people in the O’Hara ballroom Monday night about her experiences competing and advocating against transgender women in women’s athletics.”

College athlete Riley Gaines opposes biological males in women’s sports. This issue rings close to home for her because she has competed against trans athlete Lia Thomas.

Gaines spoke at the University of Pittsburgh this week, and naturally, there were protests.

The Pitt News reports:

‘Spiritual warfare’: Riley Gaines speaks against trans women in women’s sports at on-campus event

To Riley Gaines, the fight to exclude transgender women from women’s sports is more than a political issue — it’s “spiritual warfare.”

“What we’re being asked to do is to deny objective truth. It’s to deny the sky is blue, is to say that men and women are the same,” Gaines said. “We’re equal, but we’re not the same … I feel like we’re in this battle of really spiritual warfare. It’s no longer good or bad or right or wrong. This is like moral versus evil.”

Moments later, Gaines clarified that she was not calling all trans individuals “evil.”

Gaines, a former collegiate swimmer, spoke in front of roughly 70 people in the O’Hara ballroom Monday night about her experiences competing and advocating against transgender women in women’s athletics. Pitt’s Turning Point USA chapter hosted the event, which was open to Pitt affiliates and community members. After her speech, Gaines took audience questions — TPUSA’s president, Liliana Orozco, specifically requested to first hear from opposing viewpoints during the Q&A portion of the event.

Gaines rose to national fame last year after tying with transgender athlete Lia Thomas for fifth place in the 200-meter freestyle race of the 2022 NCAA championships…

Though a large protest — which took over the intersection of Forbes Avenue and Bigelow Boulevard for roughly an hour and a half — and many calls to cancel Gaines’ appearance preceded the event, her speech itself went on with relatively few interruptions.

The Pitt News covered the protest:

About 200 students protested at the intersection of Forbes Avenue and Bigelow Boulevard Monday afternoon, chanting “hate speech isn’t free, it costs lives” and carrying signs with phrases such as “save trans lives.”

The protest, which started at 3:30 p.m., was in response to a Riley Gaines speaking event Monday evening. Pitt’s Turning Point USA chapter hosted Gaines, a former collegiate swimmer and critic of transgender women competing in women’s sports. Pitt police blocked off the intersection for about one and a half hours. This protest follows a separate demonstration on Friday outside the Cathedral of Learning in response to another Turning Point USA event featuring conservative commentator Cabot Phillips.

Akira Ormes-Strong, a transgender woman living in Pittsburgh, said the University’s lack of action is “unsurprising.” She added that it’s sending a message that “hate speech is acceptable,” and is putting trans people across the city in danger.

There was also a petition to cancel the event.

Here’s a video from the protest:

Here’s a local news report:

There was one humorous moment at the event.

FOX News reports:

Audience laughs at professor telling Riley Gaines there is no difference between male, female bone structure

A video went viral of a confrontation during the Leadership Institute event when Gaines asked senior lecturer at the school’s anthropology department Gabby Yearwood, “If you were to dig up two humans one hundred years from now, both man and woman, could you tell the difference, strictly off of bones?”

“No!” the professor replied as the room erupted in laughter.

The professor then responded to the laughter with shock, wondering how he could be doubted when he was “the expert in the room.”

“Have any of you been to anthropological sites? Have any of you studied biological anthropology? I’m just saying, I’ve got over 150 years of data, I’m just curious as to why I’m being laughed at,” he said before later declaring, “I have a PhD!”

Here’s the video:

The laughter in that video is very satisfying.

Riley Gaines is terrific but why is she the only female athlete consistently standing up to the destruction of women’s sports? We need 10 more Riley Gaines speaking across the country every day.

Feminism has become anti Feminine as Transgenderism is anti female.

It always was. Feminism is a class-disordered ideology under critical diversity (inequity, exclusion) theory or DIEversity that serves the progress of a minority.

50 years ago the word debate would have been used now its protests when it should be screamed.

Gabby Yearwood shouldn’t be teaching anything about human remains if she doesn’t know 5hd distinct differences between male and female skeletons.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | April 1, 2023 at 12:51 pm

“transgender women” … “biological males” …

It’s ‘transgender men’ – they are MEN pretending to be women.

And it’s ‘males’. Don’t use the left’s BS term ‘biological males’. They are just “males”. The left just likes to force the use of modifiers to describe normal labels in order to give normalcy the feel and appearance of being abnormal. It’s just “MALES”.

One of my pet peeves (and I have a lot of them these days) is how writers complain about these phony genders yet still adhere to the offensive language by referring to transgender men as women. Some will even follow up and apologize.

I also wish that Gaines hadn’t felt the need to clarify that she didn’t mean to imply that trannies are evil in the fight against evil. She must be a Republican. Never EVER name the enemy. Just throw it out there to float around harmlessly and hope the evil goes away without offending anyone.

While I’m on this subject, how about we go back to calling homeless people bums? Around here, we can’t even call them homeless anymore. It went to “unhoused people” for a while too. They are BUMS. Makes it easier for everyone when we don’t have to renegotiate how Raymond J. Johnson Jr. wants to be referred to today

“You can call me Ray, or you can call me J or your can call me Ray J., or you can call me RJ, or you can call my RJJ, or you can call me RJJ Jr. But ya doesn’t have to call me Mr. Johnson.”

    “Okay Ray…”

    “Make it Ray J.”

Any intelligent listener understood Gaines was commenting on pernicious trans ideology. The dimwits twisting her words and bleating it was a comment on mentally deluded individuals are doing it for politics. This, rather than “clarification,” should be our side’s standard answer.

Since there may be a random case where a skeleton is not obvious male or female, then their answer is nothing can be certain.

“I have a PhD!”

Umm, can the university recall or revoke it?

Re: “hate speech isn’t free, it costs lives”

How about the lives of girls who train for 10+ years in some sport to be the very best and have it all taken away from them in a flash by males – scholarship impacts, depression, suicidal, substance abuse? “This is like moral versus evil.”

Re: “hate speech isn’t free, it costs lives”

Yeah … from the same people who count gun suicides as “gun violence”.

The Left cares about nothing but the destruction of modern society – most importantly, the destruction of Western Civilization. Everything the left says is a lie.

They want to destroy modern civilization so they can build their fascist utopia. A utopia where they rule a one party state without the constraints of fair elections and the constitution. This utopia is identical in every significant respect to those created by Nazis, Communists and Muslims and just as evil.

“Anything you do to oppose us, including mere speech, kills us.”
      Well, all righty then.
In for a penny, in for a pound.
      Your rules, not ours.

Two men and a womb, feminists promised. The feminine male, the modern woman. A veritable “burden”, to be judged, labeled, hunted, cancelled. You’ve come along way, baby, maybe.

Credentials are not a substitute for credibility.

Trans people are mentally ill as they refuse to accept reality. The fact that their sex/gender is determined by genetics and that no one can change that. All doctors can do is create a disguise. Trans people will be presenting to be something they’re not.

Instead of pandering to trans people’s delusions society should develop a cure. Something that enables them to accept themselves.

Female athletes of ALL ages need to boycott any event which permits and encourages these mental cases to participate.

      “a socio-cultural anthropologist”

Sigh. There are no more field anthropologists. Havven’t been for about two generations. These days the game is to articulate a story to discredit anything uncomfortable observed in the real world. They’re actually, even bad at the wrting– their drivel makes Twilight seem weighty.

Subotai Bahadur | April 1, 2023 at 4:45 pm

People have not realized that “woman’s sports” no longer exist. Until and unless someone founds an “XX chromosome” league there is no point for women to try to compete. It is what it is. The enemy has won this round.

Last(?) night on Gutfield (I only get to see the YouTube videos) Kat asked what the “vagina record” was in Canadian Women’s Weightlifting. Tyrus congratulated her on having solved the entire problem — no more men’s or women’s record, just a penis record and a vagina record. Then another comedian pointed out that that still left us with post-ops. Good times.

BierceAmbrose | April 1, 2023 at 4:51 pm

In the really real world, “expert in the room” means what you know tracks with the world as it is.

In socially-constructed world, “expert in the room” is claim to power; the power to declare a pretense of how the world works, that everbody there has to accommodate.

You can tell which one someone’s up to by their language. “The’ – exclusive assertion; “expert” — a role with prerogatives, “in the room” — scope of the claimed authoritah. These people give themselves away every time they speak — don’t know it because they’re bleating topes programmed in by others.

These goose-stepping, brownshirted tranny terrorists are becoming just as bad as the goose-stepping, brownshirted “Anti-fa” and “Black Lives Matter” terrorists. The pushback against these thugs and their collective, evil acts and malign intentions must be fierce and sustained.

I agree with Gaines except for her “spiritual warfare” junk. Obviously, she can say what she wants, and I’ll defend her freedom to do it, but I see no reason whatsoever to bring religion into it.

gonzotx in reply to RandomCrank. | April 1, 2023 at 7:46 pm

It’s the lack of religion that has gotten us to the insanity we are today

RandomCrank in reply to gonzotx. | April 1, 2023 at 8:04 pm

Maybe so, but “spiritual warfare?” Nope.

What exactly are your priorities in life? Are they all ephemeral? People grounded in a solid foundation of spiritual morality are how civilizations get built. Morality is not a moving target. It also is not a separate reality to be isolated from life itself.

One of the great benefits I gained from having to cold call at least a hundred thousand people in building my business was in meeting a great many of them. It changed my outlook on life to discover how many people are quietly living heroic lives, suffering without complaining while still finding time to help others. They are ALWAYS rooted in a faith in God. Even the ones who don’t go to church. Knowing that there are plenty of very good people in the world is what keeps me sane.

Just to make sure I was using “ephemeral” correctly, I looked it up.

“Ephemerality is the concept of things being transitory, existing only briefly. Academically, the term ephemeral constitutionally describes a diverse assortment of things and experiences, from digital media to types of streams. “There is no single definition of ephemerality”. —Wikipedia

How vapid and ignorant can Wikipedia be? Wikipedia is the reference work for ignorant losers looking for validation that it is okay to be stupid.

RandomCrank in reply to Pasadena Phil. | April 2, 2023 at 4:10 pm

Ephemeral, when referring to diseases, means lasting for no more than a day. In broader application, it means short-lived, transitory. That’s from the multi-volume Oxford English Dictionary, which is about as authoritative as it gets, at least when it comes to words not recently coined. Webster’s, also highly authoritative says it means lasting a very short time; with respect to physical ailments it uses a fever as an illustration and says lasting one day only.

To answer your stupid question: I have too many priorities to list. As with everyone, some of them are transitory, such as my need to finish this answer so I can get to the bathroom and urinate. Others, and from the context of your idiocy I presume you mean other priorities, no, mine are not empheral.

          Move along, dolt.

Massinsanity in reply to gonzotx. | April 2, 2023 at 10:44 am

Not just the lack of religion but the replacement of traditional, God-based religion with the religion of climate change and identity politics which has led to mass narcissism, psychosis and mental illness on an unprecedented scale.

Stuytown in reply to gonzotx. | April 2, 2023 at 3:46 pm

I can’t believe I’m agreeing with this. But I do. They replace religion with forms of idolatry. The idol itself changes.

RandomCrank | April 1, 2023 at 8:03 pm

I had to chuckle. The same campus newspaper that clearly supports the “protests” disabled comments on their YouTube page. Free speech for me, but not for thee. Pathetic.

Let’s play Logical Fallacy Bingo.

“Logical fallacies are errors in reasoning or argumentation that can undermine the validity of an argument. They are often used to mislead or distract from the truth, or to win an argument by appealing to emotions rather than reason. It’s important to be aware of these fallacies in order to critically evaluate arguments and avoid being misled.”

Let’s see how many apply to Yearwood.

I’ll open with ‘Appeal to Authority’.

Rush covered it. Dems don’t want to have to run for office. They just want to own the power forever.

The two main tendencies, liberal and conservative, run a relay race. They pass the stupid stick, and the other side runs with it. For the last 15 or so years, the liberals have been running with the stupid stick, but one thing is guaranteed: That will change.
