It’s Official – Republican Mark Robinson is Running for Governor of North Carolina

“I’m running for governor because we the people of North Carolina need someone who understands us”

Conservative Republican Mark Robinson, the current lieutenant governor of North Carolina, has formally announced his campaign to run for state governor.

Robinson is very popular among people on the right for his unapologetic conservatism and staunch support of the Second Amendment.

This Associated Press report is surprisingly fair if you can overlook the typo in the word ‘needs’ which sticks out like a sore thumb:

Conservative Robinson joins race for N. Carolina governor

Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson formally entered next year’s gubernatorial race at a rally Saturday, with the sharp-spoken social conservative saying North Carolina neads a leader like him who can relate to the challlenges and desires of working people.

Elected the state’s first Black lieutenant governor in 2020 in his frst run for political office, Robinson would make similar history if he wins the governorship.

“I’m running for governor because we the people of North Carolina need someone who understands us,” Robinson told roughly 1,000 supporters at the event at a speedway in Alamance County, about a half-hour from where he grew up. “We don’t need another politician who’s spent their life climbing the political ladder.”

Robinson’s entry was anticipated for well over a year, with the Greensboro native heavily hinting at a run in speeches and fundraising appeals. The 54-year-old also released an autobiography that talked about a childhood of poverty, financial challenges as an adult, his religious beliefs and his late entry into politics.

In this campaign launch video, Robinson talks about his upbringing and how it shaped his political views:

The liberal outlet Politico wasted no time going after Robinson, highlighting every left-wing talking point:

The GOP’s new electability problem: North Carolina

Republicans are on the verge of wiping out what remains of Democrats’ political power in North Carolina.

The only thing they need is for the likely nominee for governor to not blow it up.

On Saturday, when the state’s lightning rod Republican lieutenant governor, Mark Robinson, formally announces his gubernatorial campaign, polls suggest he will instantly become the frontrunner for the nomination. He’ll saddle the GOP with a laundry list of his past public controversies — from agreeing with antisemitic remarks about the global economy to homophobic musings that children shouldn’t learn about “homosexuality or any of that filth.”

In a state where surveys show a majority of voters favor keeping abortion legal, he has compared the procedure to murder. And even some Republicans in North Carolina see him as a liability.

Robinson also mentioned his launch on Twitter:

He will be a formidable candidate for governor.

Should be formidable and I think he can win the primary. The Dems will have a capable field too. I’m not sure Robinson can carry the independents. He may do well with Hispanics though. In the last decade a lot of transplants have moved here from unfortunate states and learned nothing about not peeing in their mess kits.

We may as well force the independents, among others, to choose between a set of very clear alternatives. Lax crime policies, drag queen story hour, trannies in your kids locker room and rest of the intolerant wokeista agenda on the one hand and a guy like Robinson on the other, who’s so called ‘controversial’ positions were well within the d/prog mainstream, much less the National political mainstream, until ten minutes ago. To include his 2nd amendment stance.

Yes I like that idea of giving indies a clear choice…if they can bring themselves to make it. With them peer pressure and status plays a part.

The thing is that, like or not, the independent voters have the final say over who wins an election. Most of them are, IMO, as repulsed by the woke agenda as we are and polls seem to indicate this as well.

By offering a clear and distinct choice between alternative visions for future policy and culture we work to force their hand. The establishment doesn’t like this idea they would prefer to push candidates that aren’t so willing to force a choice on the social/cultural issues b/c it makes them uncomfortable.

IMO, the willingness to engage forcefully and directly in the culture war issues is the best indicator of whether a particular candidate is going to be strong on other issues; military, foreign policy, economic issues.

“Clear and distinct” — bang on.

May I add “constrained” as antidote to concerns, if not a positive value. (I think it’s a positive value, but for “moderate” and “independents”…)

“Just because I believe it on faith, doesn’t mean I’m gonna sick the govt on you, to make you do it may way. This is another difference between me and my distinguished opponent.”

The choice will be for black North Carolina voters: do you want a Black Governor or another Democrat with the same old promises.

CommoChief in reply to MattMusson. | April 25, 2023 at 5:46 pm

Indeed that subset choice is also a clear and simple contrast; someone who was brought up and thinks mostly like you v a weirdo woke lefty.

Robinson’s Dem opponent, Josh Stein, is a gay, white, Harvard-grad AG that paints Robinson as an “extremist.” Stein says he wants to make NC safer and stronger. The Wake County, NC ruling class love him. I suspect Stein means protecting rights of drag queens and librarians who pack libraries with how-to sex manuals for kids and candy coated leftist BS. I don’t think NC would soon recover from the leftist sneak attack.

To the established Dems Robinson is that uppity black person that needs to be put in his place…being ungrateful and all. Having seen the legislature overcome a veto on a long standing Jim Crow law , maybe N.C. is really ready to step away from the new Democrat plantation system. Depends on the Triangle/Charlotte axis outcome.

Love it!!! I’ve been a fan of Robinson’s ever since his epic pro-Second Amendment public comment at that North Carolina city council meeting, a few years back. A legend is born.

“I am the majority!”

— future North Carolina governor, Mark Robinson.

I like this guy, but politics is cruel. I suspect he has not been properly vetted due to his being a popular, black conservative. There is probably a ton of stuff in the closet that will be unleashed when he runs. It will include things that make him out to be a hypocrite so as dampen voter enthusiasm.

I live in NC. The media has been actively trying to destroy this man so he would not run. I doubt there is a real smoking gun that has been kept hidden. I would expect a last minute phony charge such as adultery or supporting an abortion.

    That’s why we have primaries…

Ironclaw in reply to stevewhitemd. | April 25, 2023 at 3:11 pm

If it’s a primary, they won’t unleash such a thing until after the primary is over and he’s already locked in as the candidate

MattMusson in reply to E Howard Hunt. | April 25, 2023 at 5:46 pm

The LBGT plus community is going to have a theatrical cow. But that is to be expected.

henrybowman in reply to E Howard Hunt. | April 25, 2023 at 8:16 pm

    That didn’t take long…
At the recent NRA meeting, Robinson denounced a member resolution asking for a vote of no confidence in Wayne LaPierre” as an “attack on the NRA.”
If the NRA is to find any redemption and survive at all, such a resolution is the only way to ensure it happening. Otherwise, LaPierre will continue to ride the tiger until both he and it are dead, since he has no incentive to dismount it.

BierceAmbrose | April 25, 2023 at 4:24 pm

I do wish Politico would footnote their claims.. “Anti-semetic” — what did he actually say? Quote the man, not some paid shill “analyst.”

henrybowman in reply to BierceAmbrose. | April 25, 2023 at 8:18 pm

No problem. As verified blue-checked Fact Checkers, Politico will fact-check their own claim and let you know whether or not it is true. Trust the plan.

Aarradin in reply to BierceAmbrose. | April 25, 2023 at 9:33 pm

That would get in the way of their constant Lying.

Here’s how to know if anything Politico claims is true: Whenever you see Politico claim anything like this, its a Lie. If you believe them, you’re an idiot.

Watched a video of him yesterday, speaking from the pulpit of a church in NC.

“There ain’t but TWO genders.”

He went on at length about this, and was crystal clear and spoke the absolute truth.

Ended by saying, “There, I said it! And I meant it!!”

The real fun isn’t going to start until after he wins the primary. Anyone want to start a betting pool on how many mentally-ill leftist activist women will pop up and claim they just remembered he raped them decades ago? But it’s a sure thing that every Democrat politician and media member will find them all the more credible for not remembering any details that would make it possible to check their claims….
