VIDEO: Minnesota Mom Torches “Ethnic Studies” Bill

Ethnic Studies “tells kids of color they are stuck in a caste system based on race. It tells kids that ‘institutions chronically favor white people & disadvantage people of color.’ This curriculum will not help kids of color succeed. All it does is remove any reason to try.”

An education bill is working its way through Minnesota’s legislature that will require the teaching of “ethnic studies” starting in kindergarten.

Republican State Rep. Peggy Bennett describes the bill:

The first bill is an ethnic studies requirement for our schoolchildren and schools. This legislation would mandate that all students successfully complete a semester-long “ethnic studies” course to graduate from high school. It also requires that ethnic studies must be taught in elementary, middle, and charter schools. The only problem is, this is not the “ethnic studies” that most people think of when they hear this term. When most of us think about ethnic studies, we think about studying and learning about the differences and similarities of other cultures, their histories, perspectives, etc. – and that would include serious discussions about the evils of racism.

I think all of us would agree that ethnic studies like this is important to having healthy relationships with our neighbors, both here in Minnesota and throughout the world. This is already required instruction in our current Minnesota social studies standards. The ethnic studies referred to in this bill, however, has a very different definition: “Ethnic studies analyzes the ways in which race and racism have been and continue to be powerful social, cultural, and political forces, and the connection of race to other groups of stratification, including gender, class, sexuality and legal status.”

This ethnic studies bill would also require the Department of Education to hire “dedicated ethnic studies staff” who’s job in part would be to monitor schools and ensure compliance, as well as develop “a model ethnic studies curriculum” for school districts to use. The model curriculum must also include “a power, race, class, and gender analysis” and “an intersectional analysis of climate, health, food, housing, education and policy.”

This bill is ethnic studies on overdrive and seems designed to push a particular political ideology into the classroom rather than teaching understanding of other peoples and cultures.

One parent–Kofi Montzka, who describes herself as an attorney, wife, and mom–spoke out against this evil, racist indoctrination at a March 21st public hearing. Her outstanding speech has gone viral.

Alpha News has more:

Kofi Montzka, a mother to three boys, said the language of the bill “tells kids of color that they are stuck in a caste system based on their race.”

“You might ask: why in the world would a black person speak against ethnic studies? Because not everything that sounds good is good,” she said. “I’m sick of everyone denying the enormous progress we’ve made in this country acting like it’s 1930. We used to have a race-based system. We got rid of it and now you’re all trying to bring it back.”

She said ethnic studies will “not help kids succeed” but instead will “remove any reason to try.”

“This is not some theoretical crap. This happens,” she said. “If this law is passed, teaching this hopelessness to kids of color will be mandated starting in kindergarten.”

Montzka said she can understand why some white legislators might support the bill, since it’s not their kids being “told they can’t succeed.”

“But you legislators of color, how can you? You made it despite the invisible boogeyman of systemic racism,” she continued. “You were voted in by a majority of white people. You hold some of the most powerful positions in this state. But you want to tell my kids and other kids of color that they can’t succeed? It’s shameful.”

Here is a longer thread with her remarks included in the text:

Montzka appeared on Fox & Friends to discuss her opposition to the bill.

Are they trying to mandate teaching of CRT throughout their school system?

Dems are reverting to the racist roots where everything is about race. They have abandoned MLK’s dream that everyone be judged by the content of their character not the color of their skin.

Good Lord! She told too much truth. Normal decent people in Mn. had better get behind her fast..

Minnesota use to be the land of Norwegian farmers, all the people were blonde and tall

My greatgrandfather, who was from Norway, his first stop was a farm in Minnesota, later had a large farm near Green Bay Wisc and 12 children…

He was a good man, successful farmer and a leader in his community

Unfortunately my grandmother was raped at age 9 by a farm hand, and though my grandfather had him arrested, and tried, found guilty, my grandmother said she thought he never got over the “shame”.

So he sold his farm and moved to Canada , not sure how many children went with him because my grandmother was grown and married. About half the kids were raised and stayed there, the other half in America.
He wasn’t as successful, the soil was not as good as Wisconsin. He came back to Wisconsin later, to be with my grandmother before he passed.

I never meet any of them, those Canadian relatives and all the brothers and sisters are passed.

People just didn’t travel much in those days. People moved and you never saw them again.

Life is weird

Minnesota has become a sh!t show

Now the major cities in Minnesota are full of Somalians, we can thank them for Omar, her brothers bride congresswoman…

Not long ago these same idiots were all about self esteem. Now they’ve gone the complete opposite way.

She is amazing. She is part of Minnesota’s Black Conservative “The Exodus Movement.”

I agree with all she has to say. I was in a grocery store not long ago when I overheard a young black youth say to his friends “I need to get an EBT card”. It broke my heart. I thought, this young male black teenager didn’t think he was capable of working and earning an honest living wage to support himself, but rather, a low expectation for himself of a lifetime dependence on a minuscule government (taxpayer) hand out.

It is a different mindset and, often, a different view of wealth. People like that kid don’t see shame in accepting charity, but just see others as fools for giving it to them.

I can’t recall the exact number of times I heard some version of “I’m just gonna have some kids so none of this stuff matters anyways!” when I was teaching at rather poor black school. When your momma and your grandma both live just fine without working, then you tend to do the same.

    henrybowman in reply to Reader45. | March 27, 2023 at 8:27 pm

If that young male black teenager already has a felony record, any chances he ever had of “working and earning an honest living wage to support himself” are probably history. No matter how much talent he may have at any particular job, he’ll never get hired by any concern that isn’t themselves bent in some manner. For such people, the EBT card or crime are their only choices. If the don’t go for the “AND” option, consider it a small win.

“Montzka said she can understand why some white legislators might support the bill, since it’s not their kids being “told they can’t succeed.”

No… instead, they’re being told they’re Hitler, and there’s nothing they can do about it, and they’re unforgiveable… but they’ll still be required to beg every day for forgiveness regardless.

This mother ably articulated the message that conservatives and the GOP have failed to effectively communicate, over the past forty years — that the vile Dumb-o-crats’ dishonest and fallacious narratives of racial victimhood and perpetual grievance are utterly corrosive and destructive to the black community and to American society at-large, and, that they undermine the ambition, work ethic and professional success of black Americans.

I don’t think that conservatives have “failed” to communicate the truth. I have to say that I was amazed that so much success had been achieved in race relations since the sixties. In my view, the Obamas and their ilk, have single handedly turned the progress inside out, because the Demoncrat power structure cannot hold absolute control, unless they can put us at each other’s throats !!!

guyjones in reply to Temujin. | March 27, 2023 at 11:35 pm

The undeniable progress in race relations that has taken place in the U.S. has been achieved in spite of — not because of — Dumb-o-crat policies and attitudes. And, there’s no doubt that narcissist-incompetent, Obama, set back race relations and was happy to exacerbate and to foment racial tensions, for crass political gain and advantage.

That said, the reason that I use the word “failed” to describe the GOP’s messaging on the issue is that black Americans are still reflexively voting for Dumb-o-crats in overwhelming (95%-plus, or, thereabouts) numbers, despite the manifest harm that Dumb-o-crat policies and the Party’s racist paternalism have wrought upon black American families and black communities. Those numbers indicate an appalling failure to successfully market the GOP agenda to black Americans, while effectively articulating the incalculable harm caused to them by the Dumbs.

I don’t think that conservatives have “failed” to communicate the truth.

They’ve tried, but they haven’t been nearly as clear, logical and outraged as Montzka the attorney. More power to her, and let this be the awakening of those fuzz-brained ‘progressives’ who cobbled together this miserable bill.

Insufficiently Sensitive | March 29, 2023 at 1:28 pm

Kofi Montzka has nailed it brilliantly! An attorney! SHE, and her common sense, and her clearly stated rebuttal of the whole perverted idea of ‘ethnic studies’ (she defines what such studies should really cover), should be rewarded by her election to the Governorship of Minnesota.

You heard it here first.
