Lori Lightfoot Blames Racism for Mayoral Loss But Lost to a Black Guy, Mexican-American Guy

It’s because you somehow made Chicago worse, lady.

Soon-to-be-former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot played the race and sex card to explain her loss the other day:

“I’m a black woman in America. Of course,” she replied when asked by a reporter if she had been treated unfairly.

But she called being Chicago’s mayor “the honor of a lifetime.”

“Regardless of tonight’s outcome, we fought the right fights and we put this city on a better path,” Lightfoot said, as she urged her fellow mayors around the US not to fear being bold.

Amid heavy criticism for the crime wave, homelessness and other troubles plaguing the city, the mayor had also injected race into the run-up to the election.

“I am a black woman — let’s not forget,” Lightfoot, 60, told the New Yorker in a piece that ran Saturday. “Certain folks, frankly, don’t support us in leadership roles.”

Lightfoot came in third. She lost to a black man and a Mexican-American man.

Lightfoot was the first black woman and first openly gay person to be mayor of Chicago. She’s also the first mayor to only serve one term in 40 years.

Everyone thought Lightfoot would be a star. It didn’t take long for her to fall.

Lightfoot made the city worse. Violence and homelessness skyrocketed. She acted like a tyrant during the pandemic. She refused to work with people:

Lightfoot’s transformation from breakout ballot-box star to also-ran centered on three key issues: a dramatic spike in crime during the pandemic, an astonishing array of conflicts with the city’s political and civic communities, and the hellscape of challenges that came with the pandemic and civil unrest.

University of Illinois at Chicago professor emeritus Chris Mooney, told The Chicago Tribune Lightfoot faced problems out of her control like. For instance, “she had to compete for votes with six Black candidates, including some who have been more deeply involved in South and West side communities.”

But most of the problems were in Lightfoot’s control:

“Everyone’s whiplashed on this. The George Floyd (unrest), defund the police — (then) all of a sudden there’s a couple carjackings and people are like, ‘Bring in the white guy,’” Mooney said. “‘This is a very difficult time and difficult to navigate what do we do about police reform. It would be difficult for anybody, and she hasn’t shown the magic touch to figure it out.”

Mooney also said Lightfoot hurt herself by being “gratuitously pugnacious.”

“We like our Daleys and our Rahms. We complain about them but we say you’ve got to be tough to run the city of Chicago,” Mooney said. “She’s got that but almost in a gratuitous way. She picks fights for reasons unknown to most people.”

Lightfoot is unlikable. If you dared disagree with her or call her out then you’re a racist sexist homophobe:

Veteran political consultant Delmarie Cobb, also speaking before Tuesday’s results were in, noted Lightfoot’s overly defensive approach to criticism, particularly around public safety, where she often scolded white audiences about how they were experiencing crime for the first time.

Lightfoot should have focused more on explaining the issues, Cobb said, rather than dismissing as “haters” those who had attacked her over crime.

“She’s not taken that tack,” Cobb said. “Instead, it’s, ‘I’m going to force-feed you into acknowledging that I’ve done a good job.’”

On a more fundamental level, Cobb said, Lightfoot hasn’t done enough to make herself “into a likable person.”

Her speechwriter messed up and used the wrong “ism/phobia”

Also, did her voting bloc suddenly turn racist after voting her in the first time? Lots of mental gymnastics for that one.

chrisboltssr | March 2, 2023 at 1:03 pm

Lots of firsts with Lightfoot, an apt name if there ever was one.

E Howard Hunt | March 2, 2023 at 1:05 pm

Will she travel back to her home planet now?

My guess is that those several million Chicago MAGA voters, two of whom attacked Jussa Smollett, rallied to oppose her. The horror, the horror!

Maybe Vallas is one of those White Hispanics and Johnson’s beard is turning white showing his inner white person is coming to the fore.

“Some people love being victims because they love being able to blame someone else. Accountability is too much for them. They don’t like being responsible for who they have become or where they are in life.” Anonymous

Her only hope for improvement is a frontal lobotomy. Chicago is beyond hope. Just build a big wall and make it a SuperMax.

SeymourButz | March 2, 2023 at 1:19 pm

Lori Lightfoot is a racist.

Nobody cares and nothing will improve in Chicago.

“I am a woman.”??? I thought she said she has a big dick?

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

When all you have is your racism, it gets quite boring rather quickly.

And here I thought she lost because she was a sh*tty mayor.

I am sure that helped. Being a shitty mayor makes it easy to select the not so white replacements. She is a special kind of stupid to claim that two non-white opponents makes it racist.

Well, having a Battalion of Chicago’s Finest cordon off the street in front of her/it/whatever’s home for protection while there are multiple shootings & dead residents (some very young children) probably didn’t help any. Plus an increase in unsolved murders & other crimes while the number of Chicago’s Finest either retire while they can or leave for greener (& likely less dangerous) pastures elsewhere.

On top of that, the exodus of multiple Corporate Headquarters (to include their Beloved Bears) as a likely result of the increased lawlessness.

“Racism” is leftist shorthand for “Dog ate my homework. WHITE dog.”

Let’s say she is correct. Her loss was a result of racism and sexism. But what then explains the increase in racism and sexism during the four years she was mayor?

Subotai Bahadur | March 2, 2023 at 2:03 pm

No matter who ends up winning the mayoralty, Chicago is going to continue going downhill. All Democrats are committed to policies that destroy everything, When it collapses into anarchy and burns I admit that I will miss a couple of restaurants and a couple of museums I have visited there, but my G.A.S meter about the fate of the city is pegged on zero.

Subotai Bahadur

gonna need shitl*ad more dimes for this years election tollbooth.

Camperfixer | March 2, 2023 at 2:08 pm

Further proving she is mentally ill, even went so far as to emphatically state she “reduced murders in the city”. Huh? Can’t make this stuff up. BTW, prior to her stint as the mayoral wrecking ball saw a picture of what she used to look like, semi normal…but evil rots from inside out and head down.

The goal of the dems is to get the big cities to the point where no sane intelligent person would want the job of mayor.

Chicago’s Demographics per 2020 Census:
White 31.4%
Hispanic/Latino 29.8%
Black 28.7%
Asian 6.9%
Two or more races 2.6%

You cannot win a race in Chicago with only white votes. So, Lightfoot seems to feel like there’s a whole lot of racist, sexist Latinos and Blacks in Chicago. All that internalized racism, I guess.

BierceAmbrose | March 2, 2023 at 4:42 pm

How could this happen?

How could an all-the-checkboxes, Chicago political star flounder, so? Was there not The Greatest Political Figure of Generations from there? With an example of navigating Chicago politics onward to the greater, deserved things?

— Was he never around there?
— Never really was all that good?
— Not so interested in uplifting anybody but himself?

One would think that that political “center” of study, outreach, and training erected to The One in Chicago — don’t call it a Presidential Library — would so provision Good Government(tm) that no Screaming-D pol could fail in The Windbag City.

Perhaps, that’s not how this works; that’s not how any of this works. Also, you have to build the thing n spin up operations for it to do any good.

texansamurai | March 2, 2023 at 4:56 pm

no, lorri–you’re out because you’re ignorant and incompetent–but maybe you could learn to code, or mop, or sweep………..

irishgladiator63 | March 2, 2023 at 5:13 pm

“I am a black woman — let’s not forget,” Lightfoot, 60, told the New Yorker in a piece that ran Saturday. “Certain folks, frankly, don’t support us in leadership roles.”

She’s absolutely correct. And those certain folks happen to be democrat primary voters. Not only that, but Chicago democrat primary voters. You don’t get much more democrat than that. Who could have ever guessed democrats were racists?

Subotai Bahadur in reply to irishgladiator63. | March 2, 2023 at 6:04 pm

I will differ slightly. It is not “Democrat primary voters” who didn’t support her. Elections in Chicago are even more rigged than the rest of the country, and Chicagoans have even less input into their governance than the rest of us. There are factions in the Democrat Party Machine, and enough of THEM did not support her in the leadership role and they made the vote count reflect that.

…being Chicago’s mayor “the honor grift of a lifetime.”

FIFY, Beetlejuice.

“All of a sudden there are few carjackings..”
You mean like 2,000+? Funny that winning the intersectional Bingo didn’t prepare someone for actually being competent but you get what you voted for.
Good luck in your new career playing Smeagol’s stunt double in the Lord of The Rings franchise.

Paul Vallas, who won the primary, is Greek not Hispanic.

Groot is a stupid, bald, frog-eyed, lesbian, Marxist midget. The only reason anyone has ever heard of her is because she’s a black woman. She is the poster-midget for affirmative action.
Claiming racism after four years of high profile demonstration of her incompetence and destructive leftism is pretty on-brand though.

    Headed4TheHills in reply to JeromeF. | March 3, 2023 at 8:29 am

Poster-midget??? I have got to remember that one.

      Camperfixer in reply to Headed4TheHills. | March 3, 2023 at 11:12 am

That is funny. Do they ever look into a mirror? Geez. Guess if and when they do they see perfection. Satan run amok and God allowing them their folly. Unfortunately “it” destroys everything it encounters.

Headed4TheHills | March 3, 2023 at 8:28 am

You lost, ya wall-eyed pike, because you stink on ice as Mayor. We get that you have no sense of personal responsibility, any more than any other Democrat, but at least face facts if only to yourself. You took a crime-ridden cesspool and somehow made it worse. Not because of your melanin count or your gender or your choice of sexual partners, or the fact that your face could stop a seven-day clock, you lost because people got tired of your destructionist policies.

Chicago needs a Rudy, with a real plan to fix broken windows policing!

Everyone needs to be free of crime!

Vallas is of Greek origin, not Mexican-American.

This confirms that racist claims are often made without thinking.

The previous female mayor who lost reelection in a Primary at least had a snow storm that she could blame for not being reelected.

She lost because the socialist/kleptocratic establishment pulled their support. It’s too early to put their ugliest face forward.

Lori LightintheBrains, always excusing for ‘her/it’s/whatever’ failures by blaming the ‘racism’ of straight, white people.

‘Racism’ has been cried so much, it’s lost its meaning
