House Panel: ‘No Legitimate Basis’ for Biden DOJ Investigating Parents Protesting School Boards

“From the initial set of material produced in response to the subpoenas, it is apparent that the Biden administration misused federal law-enforcement and counterterrorism resources for political purposes”

In the fall of 2021, when fed-up parents began protesting woke content in schools by showing up at school board meetings, the National Association of School Boards begged the Biden DOJ to get involved.

Parents were, in some cases, labeled domestic terrorists and even investigated. None of this was necessary. It was all about politics.

House Republicans have just confirmed this.

Jarret Stepman writes at the Daily Signal:

‘No Legitimate Basis’ for DOJ Targeting of Protesting Parents, House Panel’s Report Concludes

A House committee has found that there was “no legitimate basis” for the Biden administration to use Justice Department resources to target supposed “threats” to school boards across the country.

“From the initial set of material produced in response to the subpoenas, it is apparent that the Biden administration misused federal law-enforcement and counterterrorism resources for political purposes,” the House Judiciary Committee report concludes.

For those who have followed this story, the conclusion of the report, released on Tuesday, might seem obvious, but it’s still important to catalog how government agencies have been weaponized for partisan ends.

In 2021, a series of protests erupted at Virginia school board meetings due to the adoption of the teaching of critical race theory, as well as transgender policies and COVID-19 restrictions.

Parents were fed up with radical policies being foisted on their children and showed up en masse at school board meetings to voice their concerns. The trend repeated itself across the country, but it was particularly noteworthy in Virginia due to the tightly contested governor’s race at the time between a former governor, Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, seeking to return to office, and the eventual winner, Glenn Youngkin, a Republican…

While the race was ongoing and parents were showing up at meetings, Attorney General Merrick Garland released a memo calling for a Justice Department investigation into “threats” to local school boards, despite having no evidence that any such danger existed. That followed a National School Boards Association letter to President Joe Biden asking for the administration to crack down on parents.

The House report found that the Justice Department’s “own documents demonstrate that there was no compelling nationwide law-enforcement justification for the Attorney General’s directive or the Department components’ execution thereof.”

Chuck Ross of the Washington Free Beacon has more on this:

FBI Investigated Dozens of Parents Who Criticized School Boards, Found No Legitimate Threats

The FBI opened dozens of investigations into parents who criticized school boards, which lawmakers say is evidence the Biden administration is targeting conservatives.

House Republicans revealed Tuesday that the FBI opened 25 preliminary investigations based on tips to the National Threat Operations Center. Six of the probes were assigned to the FBI’s counterterrorism division, according to the report from the Weaponization of Government Subcommittee. The report says the FBI opened just one full investigation out of the 25 preliminary investigations of school board threats and did not identify any legitimate threats against school board members.

Republicans say that the findings, obtained through a subpoena of the FBI, show that the Biden administration improperly used counterterrorism laws to go after parents who voiced criticism of school board policies related to classroom curriculum and coronavirus mandates.

“The Administration’s goal seems to have been silencing the critics of its radical education policies,” reads the report from the committee, led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R., Ohio). “This weaponization of law-enforcement powers against American parents exercising their First Amendment rights is dangerous.”

In other words, Biden and the Democrats, who lectured the country about threats to our democracy, constantly for years, were themselves a direct threat to democracy.

And in case you thought any of this vitriol against the rights of parents was over, guess again. Here’s AOC, just this week:

Not that the left doesn’t have thousands of others, but I thank God every day that Garland didn’t make the SCOTUS.

And AOC is a POS.

That’s “piece of socialism.,” by the way. Your mileage may vary….

I’m also grateful that this imbecile isn’t sitting on the Court, but, damn, he’s doing plenty of damage as a thoroughly corrupt, partisan and lawless AG doing the vindictive bidding of the vile and totalitarian Dumb-o-crats.

I too am pleased he is not a life member of SCOTUS. However, enough senators put him where he is even after seeing the damage Eric Holder did in the same position with barely a slap on the wrist, (however dramatic it was seen, nothing of consequence came of his impeachment).

As long as “go along to get along” is in play, expect future appointments to learn from this general’s behavior and actions and then take it to next level.

Yep. Garland got put in the position of U.S. Attorney General, where he can do more damage to the U.S. faster than then he would have been able to as a Supreme Court Justice.

Nearly half of the Senate Republicans voted to confirm Garland – including McConnell.

Nor was that the first time the Franz von Papen Republicans rubber-stamped a Biden* nominee or policy proposal. In fact, pretty much everything Democrats wanted they got. In an allegedly 50-50 Senate, ponder the sobering fact the Manchin and Sinema did more to oppose Biden* (however briefly) than the Senate GOP did.

When it comes to the “opposition party”, when does the “opposition” part actually start?

He’s doing far more damage in shorter time than he ever could as just 1 of 9

Yes, but that Affirmative Action chick that did get on may be even worse. After reading some of the questions and comments she has had in cases so far my conclusion is that the law is secondary to her and Social Justice is the driver behind everything she does.

She is a pos and she is dangerous.

There is no basis for the FBI to be investigating anyone when no crime was committed…. unless your name is Donald Trump.

I am seriously beginning to wonder if there is anyone left in the Democratic Party or this administration who remains either sane or supporters of traditional American values. Even more worrisome is how some Republicans are starting to become members of this shameful cult.

The vile Dumb-o-crats are all subversive, destructive and useless apparatchiks. There isn’t a single redeeming member of their Party, nor, a single redeeming facet to their corrosive ideology and ethos.

You can stop wondering, there aren’t.

It doesn’t matter. The administrative state just needs to publish a new rule and bam, criminal violations that need to be investigated. It’s really simple, just use vague and broad language in rulemaking, attach a criminal sanction, wait 90 days, and you have a new law labeling parents as domestic terrorists. It’s just like the new OPM rule that is so vague and broad, they can fire anyone. See https://www.fedweek.com/fedweek/opm-proposes-overhaul-of-suitability-and-fitness-policies-cites-insider-threats/

Legitimate, Biden, DOJ in the same sentence. The Dem party is controlled by Leninist conformity. That’s where the power is today. It will be attractive to some Republicans as well. Two plus two equals four unless it becomes necessary for one’s well being for it to equal five……….

As usual, the Leftists think free speech and freedom are the problem and government is the solution. Citizens criticizing government are not “threats to democracy,” rather they represent threats to the grasp on power of the would-be tyrants and their control over the citizens.

“MuH fiNDinGz.”
Enough talk. Do something.

Wow, Merrick Himmler had no legitimate basis for loosing the Gestapo on concerned parents? Who’da thunk it?

The father of a rape victim got yelled at and yelled back however what a monster!!!!!!!!

In truth Biden is a radical so anybody he picked would have been just like Merrick Garland but we are all fortunate he will never be on the supreme court.

Democrats are operating under the politically congruent theory that women serve as womb banks, men as sperm donors, and [unPlanned] children are props of the State.

No mention of Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic leader, claiming that GOP doesn’t want kids “to learn about the Holocaust.”

And you wonder why the woke are so stupid, swallowing such crap.

The bastards at the “Justice” Department have zero concern with legitimacy. It’s not a part of their limited vocabulary.
