Saturday Night Live Cold Opens Mock Trump More Than Biden Two Years After 2020 Election

“continues scaling back its mockery of President Biden in his first two years of office instead taking more aim at a former president who the liberal sketch comedy show cannot let go”

The folks at Saturday Night Live apparently think Donald Trump is still the president. Even though the 2020 election was over two years ago, the show’s cold opens make fun of Trump more than the current president, Joe Biden.

FOX News reports:

‘SNL’ cold opens satirize Trump more than Biden despite being out of office for two years

“Saturday Night Live” continues scaling back its mockery of President Biden in his first two years of office instead taking more aim at a former president who the liberal sketch comedy show cannot let go.

For decades, the “SNL” cold opens satirize the week’s biggest news story, which often involves the president. That’s no longer the case with Biden, who has only been mocked seven times across 43 episodes that have aired during his presidency, just one time during the current 48th season so far, which took place the Saturday before the midterms. That’s less than 17% of the time.

Former President Trump, meanwhile, has appeared ten times in those 43 episodes, more than 23% of them, including four times in the current season.

Both the current and former presidents are played by “SNL” cast member James Austin Johnson, who joined the long-running NBC program in 2021.

In the first show of 2023 following the emergence of Biden’s classified document scandal where he admitted to storing sensitive records in his garage next to his corvette, “SNL” chose to instead mock embattled freshman Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., in the cold open.

Even defeated GOP candidates Kari Lake and Herschel Walker have made more appearances in the 48th season than the sitting president with two cold opens apiece.

Do you really believe that the writers at SNL just can’t find a way to satirize Joe Biden? Please. The man is a walking comedy sketch.

Tim Graham of NewsBusters has more:

In the Trump years, their fake president was played by Alec “Gunslinger” Baldwin, so it was never gentle. Wulfsohn noted that Obama was more commonly treated in the cold-open than Biden: “In the first two years of his presidency, Obama, played by former cast member Fred Armisen, made 18 appearances across 44 episodes, roughly 41% of the time.”

The Fox reporter also noticed that Kamala Harris (previously played by Maya Rudolph, who talked Kamala up as a superhero) hasn’t been included in any cold opens during the Biden presidency, “despite her lengthy track record of gaffes and ‘word salad’ moments from pressers and interviews that have gone viral.” Rudolph has played Kamala in just one mid-show sketch in March 2021

This trend began in the Obama years. When Obama was featured as a character on SNL, it was almost always presented in a good-hearted way. Obama was not mocked.

In the years since it has only gotten worse. SNL used to be for the enjoyment of all Americans. Today, it functions like a Democrat party super PAC.

If you want to see the mockery of Biden, you need to watch the ‘Gutfeld!’ show, where Tom Shillue does an excellent job of lampooning Joe:

In 2018, I was widely mocked by liberal media for a column I wrote for Townhall, suggesting that conservatives need their own Saturday Night Live.

I stand by the premise of that piece.

Trump: perpetually living rent-free in the heads of leftist everywhere.

I was going to ask “what are leftists going to do with themselves when Trump passes away?” After all he’s in his 70s and he ain’t gonna live forever.

But it’s plain what the answer is: they’ll just keep on as if he’s still alive. He will always be their favorite Emmanuel Goldstein. He will haunt their dreams.

If something like that were happening to me, I’d seek professional help.

Mad Magazine was still making Edsel references thirty years after the last one rolled off the assembly line.

    The parallels are just astonishing.

The next moment a hideous, grinding speech, as of some monstrous machine running without oil, burst from the big telescreen at the end of the room. It was a noise that set one’s teeth on edge and bristled the hair at the back of one’s neck. The Hate had started.

As usual, the face of Emmanuel Goldstein, the Enemy of the People, had flashed on to the screen. There were hisses here and there among the audience. The little sandy-haired woman gave a squeak of mingled fear and disgust. Goldstein was the renegade and backslider who once, long ago (how long ago, nobody quite remembered), had been one of the leading figures of the Party, almost on a level with Big Brother himself, and then had engaged in counter-revolutionary activities, had been condemned to death, and had mysteriously escaped and disappeared. The programmes of the Two Minutes Hate varied from day to day, but there was none in which Goldstein was not the principal figure. He was the primal traitor, the earliest defiler of the Party’s purity. All subsequent crimes against the Party, all treacheries, acts of sabotage, heresies, deviations, sprang directly out of his teaching. Somewhere or other he was still alive and hatching his conspiracies…

Except (of course) that now it’s a 90-minutes hate.

SNL used to be for the enjoyment of all Americans.

Nope. It has always been as much fun as a speech by Yuri Andropov, with a handful of funny lines that accidentally slipped past the writers and producers.

It’s never been for all Americans. It’s always been for New Yorkers – particularly those who think they are just the smartest people in the world because they happened to live in NYC. (IOW, mostly Progressives.)

the producers should do a casting call at the watson hotel–could likely replace the entire cast of snl with people that have more talent (as none is required anyway) and for a hell of a lot less money–snl’s decline in both talent and content has been ongoing for at least thirty years now–they’ve become virtually irrelevant

I see a CNN future in SNL’s life.

Back in the Belushi, Murray, Akroyd, Curtin, Radner, Newman, Morris days, I watched SNL religiously.
They were FUNNY.
Today, they’re Progressive jerks, pathetic, not funny.

NBC and the not funny hacks at SNL are desperate to get out in front of Trump’s candidacy for POTUS in 2024. They are still trying to atone for their unforgivable sin of helping him defeat Hillary in 2016 and this is their penitence.

Its safe comedy and plays to their existing leftist fan base so of course they are going to mock anyone other than Democrats.

I note who is not playing Trump nowadays. Hah!

I reckon the lack of work is making him rusty.

Oh! You mean John Wayne Baldwin, Fastest Gun in the West. He says he doesn’t have time to play Trump. He’s busy working on his next project: Escape From Alcatraz.

1. Why is this still on?
2. shows they are in line with eh rest of the propaganda machine and at least 2 years behind. Most just found out within the last 24 hours Hunter’s laptop is Hunter’s laptop.

Did they cancel Your Show of Shows?

SNL is a joke, and I don’t mean that in a good way.

More than a few folks have Trump as the center of their universe. The saga of CNN is a warning. They oriented their network as ‘advocacy journalists’ in opposition to Trump. When he was no longer President and therefore far less news worthy they collapsed. Without him as a daily foil they couldn’t come up with content to keep an audience.

For a while they were able to delay the fall with Covid but that deserted them as well. They could have begun covering the other half of Covid; feckless lockdown, ineffective mask mandates, useless social distancing and vax harm. Doing so would have filled their ideology b/c they were all in on the vax, lockdown and the mandates.

Putting all your eggs in one basket has always been a bad idea.

Except when everything outside your basket is all things RINO

    There’s that

CommoChief in reply to gonzotx. | February 2, 2023 at 1:40 pm

The reasonable consensus is that McCarthy, McConnell and McDaniel are the epitome of RINO. All of whom were supported by Trump.

Trump has some rotten eggs in his basket.

What does Li and SNL have in common?

They both mock President Trump
More than Biden!

Paula in reply to gonzotx. | February 2, 2023 at 1:49 pm

The only way to mock Biden would be to have someone come out bare naked and have the audience pretend he’s wearing clothes.

SNL hasn’t been relevant or funny in almost 20 years now. During the Will Ferrell era they were starting to go really political, but they could still be FUNNY (celebrity Jeopardy is still some of the best skits the show ever made).

Nobody outside the NY/LA champagne circuit knows or cares what SNL does.

A playground taunt. A ponytail pulled. An impeachment, twice, thrice, more. Their expression of love is awkward at that age.

“Kamala Harris (previously played by Maya Rudolph, who talked Kamala up as a superhero)”

That name ring a bell?
She’s the new “noncontroversial” spokescandy for M&M.

they are so degenerate , pure filth.
@ and half years after the election and they still have rtump derangement syndrome, ……disgusting!!!

Trump is at least doing things to keep him in the news. I remember back in 2009 when Leno was still making multiple jokes about Bush and Palin in his monologue every night, months after Obama was sworn in and when they hadn’t done anything newsworthy.
