Media Pounces After Florida Death Row Inmate Uses Final Words to Blast Ron DeSantis

“The guy murdered a police officer and a young mother in cold blood- maybe his lunatic ramblings that ‘actually Ron DeSantis is worse than me’ shouldn’t lead coverage of his execution.”

https://youtu.be/WF5z54P30tE

Most of the time, media stories about death row inmates getting executed for the crimes they were convicted of committing are of the run-of-the-mill variety and don’t get much attention beyond what local outlets report.

But in the case of Florida death row inmate Donald Dillbeck, things went a little differently after the twice-convicted murderer used his final words to blast Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, 32 years prior to Dillbeck’s last moments he was sentenced to death row after being convicted of murdering a woman who he carjacked after he got tired of serving a life sentence for another murder and escaped:

It had been 32 years since Dillbeck was sentenced to death, and [Faye Lamb Vann] wasn’t his only victim. At the time of her murder, Dillbeck had escaped from a work-release catering job in Gadsden County, where he was serving a life sentence for killing Lee County Deputy Dwight Lynn Hall, 31.

The lede in the story was about how Dillbeck’s last words were to tell DeSantis, who last month signed his death warrant, to “suck our d**ks“:

“I know I hurt people when I was young. I really messed up. But I know Ron DeSantis has done a lot worse. He’s taken a lot from a lot of people. I speak for all men, women and children. He’s put his foot on our necks. Ron DeSantis and other people like him can suck our d**ks.”

On Twitter—just like in the story—the reporter who wrote the article, Kathryn Varn, made the reaction of victim Faye Lamb Vann’s family on Dillbeck’s execution secondary to what he had to say about DeSantis:

The reporter later tried to defend herself by declaring it was the media’s duty to report on the final words of someone who the state is about to execute:

While that may be the case, should their final words be the focal point of the story or their crimes and the victim’s family’s reaction?

I think we all know the answer to that question, at least in the eyes of the mainstream press:

Quite simply put, DeSantis Derangement Syndrome has struck again in the media because these people simply cannot help themselves.

It’s kinda too bad that a person can be executed only once.

It would be a real shame if someone put a “DeSantis 2024” flag on Dillbeck’s grave.

“Media pounces” tells us how out of touch they are. For normal citizens this is a positive endorsement for DeSantis.

It’s not an endorsement for anybody. Had Trump been the guy to sign his death warrant rather granting him a stay of execution instead of DeSantis and the inmate’s been instead directed at Trump, would that have been an endorsement for Trump? You guys are really reaching.

Loyal member of the Democrat Party to the end.

“What we’ve got here is a failure of representation.” None of the officers involved in his trial had been suborned by Soros, and as a result, he failed to get his due “Democrat justice.”

Seems the guardrails needed to be on society long before this clown ended up in jail.

A majority of the Media infamously subscribes to the Pro-Choice ethical religion. That said, throw another baby on the barbie, it’s over. #HateLovesAbortion and other cruel and unusual human rites and punishment performed without borders.

With all due respect, is it accurate to say the media pounced? There was a story in the Tallahassee Democrats and a rant at Huffpo, and the normal reaction of activists. Perhaps better to couch this as an illustration of how low some in media will go to hurt a candidate,

Of course, it helps DeSantis overall. The deranged will stay so. Most people see what underlies the “news” that is more appropriately deemed clickbait. It’s fine, but does it add much, if anything?

The story about the deranged grand jury foreperson, which helps Trump, is also clickbait, but deserves wider coverage because of the implications and the reactions.

No question that both illustrate derangement bordering on hate, and likely had the opposite effect of what was intended.

He hasn’t declared himself a candidate. Do many view him as a potential candidate? Absolutely. Do many fear that he is the strongest potential candidate. Yep. The fearful attempt to mask their fear with angry attacks and baseless innuendo.

Politics truly does create strange bedfellows. It’s always interesting to see the curious working alliance among those of different stripes unite, however briefly or tenuous, in opposition to a particular person or policy.

He’s not the stronger candidate. President Trump is the ONLY one that can bring sanity back and this is a nothing burger , a nothing burger compared to what President Trump faces every single day

I think DeSantis loves it, makes him look machismo and his team knows, sites like this, who have man crushes on Ronny l, will run with it.

Gonzotx wants to live in an echo chamber where everyone is always pro-Trump all the time. There are lots of blogs out there where you will be welcome with open arms with everyone always agreeing with you. Thankfully, Legal Insurrection is not one of those.

CommoChief in reply to gonzotx. | February 25, 2023 at 3:49 pm

He is not currently a candidate but some people do in fact view him as not only a potential candidate but potentially the strongest candidate should he chose to become a candidate.

Will he run in ’24 and will he emerge as the strongest candidate? When the GoP primary begins in earnest this summer we will find out. Personally I don’t understand why anyone fears competition b/c I have always found competition to make me better whether I win or lose.

The problem is Trump WILL prevail and that will be the end of DeSantis. For a while, we had two MAGA superstars steamrolling through the opposition. Now DeSantis is forcing us to pick one. And he will need dirty money to even have an outside chance.

All of the NeverTrump hatred amounts to nothing and is contained among what is left of the diehard Republican loyalist minority. Trump has a very large foundation of Tea Party independents and patriotic Republicans and Democrats. There will be no need to hold our noses to vote for the lesser of two evils and DeSantis will be off in his new career as a political consultant (aka lobbyist). Of course, he could be president in 2028 if he were to play his cards right. A humble guy (ahem) like DeSantis should have no problem figuring that out,

You seem to believe that a competition between the two is a bad thing. Further you seem to believe that this competition should be avoided. Why wouldn’t those constraints apply equally to both or all candidates and potential candidates? Would you prefer that GoP primary voters not have input and that the GoP National Committee simply anoint a nominee of their choice? Sound bad to me.

Personally I will wait and see what happens when we get to the summer and into the real meat of the GoP primary contest. Every candidate who puts themselves forward should be examined. I would hope that every GoP primary voter will give each candidate for the nomination a fair hearing, review the facts and decide which candidate is the best choice for 2024.

IMO you stated it incorrectly. The problem is Trump WILL prevail and that will be the end of the Republicans. We saw last Fall what happened when Trump exercised his influence in the Midterms. Trump can’t beat Biden. DeSantis can. (I do not believe that DeSantis will make a decision on entering the race until Biden does.)

DeSantis just won the coveted Jeb!! endorsement,

          https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/02/25/jeb-bush-heaps-praise-on-prospect-of-desantis-2024-i-think-it-is-his-opportunity-to-seek-higher-office/

Can Karl Rove be far behind? DeSantis has already declared his highest admiration for the Bush family and Karl Rove. Among others. Wow. Paul Ryan and Jeb!! on the same day! He is obviously Trump without the baggage! Woo hoo!!!

          Phil,

FYI I don’t care what Rove or Ryan or Jeb! say or do. They ain’t having any degree of influence on me. Nor can I think of a single person for whom their actions would matter outside of the DC/NYC media, beltway grifters or other establishment types. Maybe the big money donors care but I sure as hell don’t. Nor does the average GoP voter.

And lo, Trump shall glideth down from the heavens on yon golden escalator, hands spread akimbo, intoning, “follow me, my children.”

Hey Gentle Grizzly. I like your new photo and ZZ Top beard. I have 2 brothers who stopped shaving after they retired, and they look a lot like you. I’ve had a beard for 50 years, but I’m too ugly to post a picture of myself on LI.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to The Gentle Grizzly. | February 25, 2023 at 5:45 pm

Mine is NOT a ZZ Top beard. This guys are slobs. Mine is full and somewhat long, yes. But, I maintain it.

As for 50 years you gave me beat by 4.5. This one started July 1977.

Wait how old are y’all. I mean…um… seasoned ..um …experienced. Yeah that’s it, experienced.

I got the typical veteran goatee and very occasionally I can go four days without shaving the rest, usually daily or every other day. I envy those of you who can pull off any of the more full beard looks/styles without going Cray Cray due to length, itching. It looks good Grizz.

Commo: I grew a mustache in 1968. Would have earlier except for school rules. Except for 8 weeks of boot camp then arriving at “A” school, I’ve had a beard or mustache since. This beard here was grown in the navy when they still allowed them.

I will be 74 in late April and the new picture is about 2 weeks old.

You got me by 22 years. Hope I look as good then and can maintain as positive and humorous outlook as you have.

What will you say if DeSantis destroys Trump in the primary and wins the GOP nomination?

What will you say once Trump is indicted by several jurisdictions?

George Soros always gets his way. Think about it.

When you claim that one man, and only one man, can rescue America then you are a cultist.

If you don’t like our site, gonzo, you know the answer, right? It’s not rocket science.

      Here is your problem:

      https://trendingpoliticsnews.com/watch-paul-ryan-smugly-says-he-will-boycott-rnc-if-donald-trump-wins-primary/

You don’t get it and never will. Arguing with you people over DeSantis vs Trump is exactly the same as arguing with the “liberals”. The same hate. The same arguments. It’s not a discussion but a condescending lecture with name=calling and insults. You are fighting the wrong enemy. That’s the problem. You support the establishment and I support the anti=establishment MAGA. Unbelievable.

CommoChief in reply to Pasadena Phil. | February 25, 2023 at 8:39 pm

        Phil,

I literally just made a post urging GoP Primary voters to wait until the meat of the GoP primary this summer and give each candidate for the nomination an evaluation, weigh the facts and then make their decision as to which is best in 2024. I don’t see how you could infer that as an endorsement much less a rejection of anyone.

In contrast you seem to want to declare one person the nominee by what criteria exactly? Your proclamation? Your desire to see your guy win? That’s a strange thing coming from someone who has stated they are no longer a registered GoP voter. It comes across as controlling and more than a little contemptuous.

Let’s have a competitive GoP primary and let the GoP primary voters decide whom they prefer to choose as their nominee in 2024. Ultimately this is a decision that GoP membership will make. While the rest of the Nation can certainly comment on the process those who are not GoP voters don’t have a dog in the fight and don’t get to decide how the GoP voters choose a nominee.

This dog fight was started by DeSantis. Trump broke through the Uniparty walls and BOTH were fighting the MAGA fight as an unstoppable duo. Then DeSantis starts playing cute and decides he will play to the Uniparty dirty money and remake himself as the true champion of MAGA and try to usurp Trump. NEVER WOUND A KING!

You can sob and moan all you want about how unfair it is for the vast MAGA to belittle DeSantis and point out the reality of his situation (dirty money) but most of us see it. It’s that simple. In order to topple Trump as the leader of MAGA, he has to first ally himself with the enemy and get on the dirty money payroll. He is a big admirer of the Bushes and Karl Rove. He has said so! You really think this guy is MAGA? You really think he can get all of that dirty money and be more reliable to deliver than Trump who has already proven that he WILL deliver because he has done so in historic fashion!

The Stupid Party defined! You never learn because you just don’t listen. So keep talking as your little band of fools keeps dwindling. How stupid will you feel when you are defending Jeb!!!, Paul Ryan, Karl Rove, McConnell, John Boehner, and the rest. Hello? Is anyone home? It’s already happening!

CommoChief in reply to CommoChief. | February 26, 2023 at 3:10 pm

          Phil,

Buddy you got this twisted. The guy you seem to fear hasn’t become a candidate yet. Therefore there is no existing fight and even if there were the guy you fear not only didn’t start it he isn’t involved in it.

The average GoP base voter likes both of these guys and rejects the establishment goons like Rove and Jeb! You do recall that Jeb! exited the 2016 GoP primary b/c he couldn’t get any traction? The GoP base voter rejected that clown.

You act as if the GoP base voter had diddly squat to do with what happened in 2016 and that MAGA was created by a one man band who led entirely new movement. That simply isn’t so. The very frustrated GoP voters rejected the establishment’s choices in the GoP 2016 primary. Then they were joined by roughly 10 million Obama voters in the 2016 general election to reject the other establishment offering of HRC in the general election.

Your guy was selected as the Avatar of the existing populist right movement in 2016 and 2020. However he will have to earn the votes in 2024. He won’t be handed support as if his mere presence entitles him to the nomination.

Your arguments are doing damage to cause of the guy you say you like. You argue like a d/prog employing classic SIGN language. Shame, Insults, Guilt and the Need to be right.

Evil Otto in reply to Pasadena Phil. | February 26, 2023 at 7:37 am

You Trump-or-nothing supporters aren’t exactly convincing. You pretend that Ron DeSantis is establishment based on endorsements and ignore what he’s done while in office. You treat anyone who dares not to be enamored of Trump as the enemy while complaining that we’re treating you as the enemy.

It doesn’t at all surprise me that the lamestream misleadia would side with a murdering animal over America’s best governor.

This makes sense, as most felons have anti-American democrat origins. Good riddance.

The vile Dumb-o-crats never met a sociopath criminal whom they didn’t seek to venerate, canonize, show deference to and otherwise treat as an allegedly laudable and sagacious figure.

Criminals’ victims and the victims’ family members are less than an afterthought, as far as the Dumbs are concerned.

Nothing new here. Just another bitter liberal progressive democrat un American yapping his mouth off.
WWG1WGA

Astonishing, isn’t it, that a death row inmate should be vindictive toward the governor who carried out his well-deserved death sentence? Why, it’s almost as unthinkable as a habitual thief getting angry at people with burglar alarms!

So, the idea that this guy is so bad they’re putting him to death doesn’t make the media back up a bit and say “His opinion might not go over well with people”? Oy vey.

Near complete example of journalistic malpractice.

Narrative rules.

Are there any non-moonbat news outlets in Florida anymore?

So a complete piece of filth, who no one will ever miss, takes a swipe at DeSantis and people actually think this is a win for them? If I were DeSantis’ people I would encourage these morons to keep pushing this.

And just FYI, members of the media witness executions and report what we saw and heard as an accountability measure. The state is killing someone. There should be a record of exactly what happened.

So report what happened. The executioner stuck the needle in, or whatever, and the guy died. Report if anything went wrong. What the guy said is not relevant to anyone. It’s not part of the story. How exactly is it an “accountability measure”?

In any case, who said you have to report anything? The state is not accountable to you. You don’t represent the public, you only represent your employer, which represents only its shareholders.

Good riddance! One less piece of garbage on this planet!
