‘Largest Crime Scene in the Country’: Arizona Sheriff Blasts Biden Admin on Border Crisis

“I have personally experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly of being a border county. Currently, this is the ugliest I’ve experienced.”

Arizona Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels blasted President Joe Biden’s administration’s lie, silence, and lack of action about the southern border.

Dannels testified at the House Judiciary Committee’s “The Biden Border Crisis” hearing.

National Review has snippets of Dannels’ opening statement:

“I have personally experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly of being a border county. Currently, this is the ugliest I’ve experienced,” Dannels said as part of his prepared remarks.

“Border-related crimes are at an all-time high. Death, murder investigations, aggravated acts against my citizens…and, yes, assault against law enforcement officials,” Dannels said.

“My fellow sheriffs and have tried to partner with this administration to include the President of United States, with high hopes to share a collective message, a collective action plan, support the rule of law, prioritize our southern border and provide updates on community impacts and concerns — with little to no success,” he said. “By allowing our border security mission and immigration laws to be discretionary, these criminal cartels continue to be the true winners.”

Dannels told Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) that statements made by DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayokas declaring the border is secure and closed have never been true and are still not true.

Issa also asked if “border czar” Vice President Kamala Harris’s comment about a secure border is “inaccurate.”

“Yes, it would.”

Dannels also accused the Biden administration of giving him nothing but silence when asking for help:

“We actually have on behalf of the National Sheriffs’ Association … Our National Sheriffs senior leadership has attempted through letters to reach out to President Biden, he’s been invited to our events with major county sheriffs, western sheriffs, southwest border and national. We have never gotten a response back from this president. In fact, I was told just a couple months ago he’s the first president not to meet with sheriffs in this country. He still has not to date to my knowledge,” Dannels said in response to questioning by Republican Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson.

“We did meet with Secretary Mayorkas. We reached out. I assembled about a dozen sheriffs, we met in El Paso. We sat down with the secretary, gave him a 16-point action plan to share what we thought were common sense, humanitarian, public safety and national security objectives built within that. Never heard back, I asked the secretary where that plan was, what they were gonna do with it. He asked me, ‘what plan?’”

Pardon this digression, but, while Mark Dannels is probably a very good guy, I am disgusted with police chiefs wearing four stars, as if they’re George Patton, which they’re NOT.
And Memphis police chief Cerelyn Davis wears five stars, as if she’s Dwight Eisenhower, which she’s NOT.
How thoroughly pathetic.

Well, he’s not a police chief. Apparently, he’s a “SHERRIFF.” (SMH)
Someone should have a talk with the clerrrk who composed that.

Since I am an AZ resident, do you really think I give a rat’s behind about what stars the Sheriff has on his shoulders. That has nothing to do with the issue of illegals and the Mexican cartel’s, destroying, our country. The issue is the Biden administration lying to Americans and lining their pockets at the expense of every legal American taxpayer.

The border’s a crime scene, but the criminals got away. They went to NYC where they’re staying in $500 per night hotels while our own citizens rot on the street.

FrankJNatoli in reply to Paula. | February 1, 2023 at 4:41 pm

For those not familiar with Paula’s hotel story, the city where I was born and raised rented out the entire Watson Hotel on W. 57th St. in Manhattan, a swank area, at a cost of $500 per night per room, and moved illegals into them.
Mark Simone on WOR-710-AM this morning described hotel employees experiencing complete pandemonium, the illegals trashing the place, and now the illegals don’t want to be relocated to the Brooklyn Marine Terminal.
    Can’t blame them.
Once the best is free, my birth boro of Brooklyn doesn’t quite cut it.
But it does have the best pizza.

      “…Brooklyn doesn’t quite cut it.
But it does have the best pizza.”

200 Thumbs up for Brooklyn pizza.

Why, it’s almost as if Mayorkas and Niden are running a timeshare scam on these “refugees.”
See the glory (see the…. glorrrrrry of…..) of the Royal Scam.

Be sure to thankBe sure to thank the pedophile in Chief who refuses to enforce the law

They. Don’t. Care…

It’s the plan

“The simplest way to explain the behavior of any bureaucratic organization is to assume that it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies.”
(The third of Robert Conquest’s “Three Laws of Politics.”)

That judge from El Paso that the dems brought in was a complete embarrassment to the legal community. He presented himself as if he resides in some type of information bubble, doesn’t pay attention to news stories, or refuses to believe that the border has been overrun. He lives in the El Paso bubble that has the benefits of extra law enforcement, plenty of legal crossings that the criminal element avoids.

A completed wall along the southern border would be very handy. Too bad we can’t get a presidential candidate to promise to build it. Such a promise would likely pull in all sorts of disaffected and first time votes from across the political spectrum. The PR of such a brash promise and the media disdain of it would generate free publicity. A candidate who did so would shock the establishment by winning on a central issue of agreement for most voters. People would line-up to vote for a candidate who finally promised the one issue they wanted above all others.

Of course he would have to build the damn wall once elected. He wouldn’t make excuses about the establishment in Congress opposing it b/c he has a veto, all he has to do is use it when the establishment tries to deny funding. He would force Congress to override it and risk breaking the party over it due to the critical importance of the issue.

If such a candidate got elected but didn’t deliver they might get cut some slack. Some supporters would stay but not all. He would have to work doubly hard to convince his previous supporters to give him a third bite at the apple, especially those who felt betrayed by the failure to build the damn wall. Those voters wouldn’t listen to a bunch of whining excuses about the mean establishment. Nope, those voters want to know exactly how he proposes to get it done despite resistance. All else is just noise to these single issue voters who are still waiting on the damn wall they were promised but didn’t get delivered.

“Too bad we can’t get a presidential candidate to promise to build it.”
Permit me to play Madame Zelda.
I see…I see…De Santis not campaigning on the issue, but getting elected and then building the wall all the same.

Integrity is doing what you promised to do.
If you can’t do it, and don’t promise to do it, then that’s either on the voter, or on what is objectively possible.
Compare to FDR, who did precisely the opposite of everything he promised to do, and Biden, who violated his oath doing everything he ever did.

Trump promised to build the wall. He lied.

      lurker9876 in reply to JR. | February 2, 2023 at 11:07 am

He did finally build it after two years of litigation by the Democrats and he had to move some money around. But he will finish the wall if re-elected.

If the Democrats plan to rig the 2024 election, they will rig it for all GOP candidates. In fact, they are MORE terrified of DeSantis.

        CommoChief in reply to lurker9876. | February 2, 2023 at 7:41 pm

Ryan and McConnell sent him a budget without the funding. Instead of imposing a veto Trump caved to pressure and betrayed his voters on his central campaign issue. After that did d/prog resist him moving funds around? Sure. Would not have happened if Trump had imposed his veto and forced Congress to fund the wall.

When you leave out the part of the story that makes Trump look bad you come across as dishonest. Attempting to rewrite history on the reason we don’t have border wall won’t work. Too many people are very aware of how Trump failed to keep his central campaign promise. He let the RINO roll him instead of fighting them over it.

DaveGinOly in reply to JR. | February 7, 2023 at 11:52 am

Does everyone here forget the lawfare of the “resist” movement, that impeded Trump at every turn?

regardless of the wall, what is the point of a border if you’re not going to enforce it with the laws already on the books?–fjb has done NOTHING to secure our southern border–based on first-hand testimony, from citizens, elected officials, law enforcement personnel even foreign journalists, our southern border security is virtually nonexistent–since is the responsibility of the feds to secure our national border and they refuse to do so (and brazenly lie about it) is past time for locals to assume responsibility–better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission–more than the russians, the chinese, etc the lack of effective border security is not some damned existential threat but a genuine, visible, in-your-face attack on our country

fjb and his “administration” are (and have been) clearly derelict in their duty viz this fundamental responsibility

Even with a wall, the Democrats will open up the border gates at all points. But at least, the illegal immigrants will be forced to go through the gates.

Do remember those buses waiting by the gates to load up the illegal immigrants to be “processed”.

This is what open borders means on the ground

Interesting how Sheriffs and “police officials” come down differently on some issues, and which ones.

Sheriffs are generally elected, by the people where they operate. Police are generally appointed by “government officials” who don’t live under those police operations.

We don’t need “police reform”; we could use some “policing reform”, BUT, The Screaming D’s and their Flying Monkeys dirtied this up, so we’re stuck with the issue vs. any progress … just as they prefer.
