Hillsdale College Sees 53% Increase in Applications as More People Reject Wokeness

“The story of American higher ed really for the past half century has been a story of one college after another really trashing any kind of a serious core curriculum”

This is encouraging news. We need more schools like Hillsdale.

FOX News reports:

As woke curriculum increases, classical education booms: Hillsdale College sees 53% increase in applications

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, enrollment in colleges across the nation has decreased by roughly 13%. While many colleges struggle to draw in students, many faith-based universities are seeing a boom in applications, championing the classical curriculum over woke ideologies.

Founder and CEO of the Classic Learning Test (CLT) Jeremy Tate outlined on “Fox & Friends Weekend” Saturday how the classical education is giving many colleges across the U.S. an edge over others.

“If you’re watching this, and you graduated college in the sixties or seventies, then you probably took U.S. history or economics or Western civilization. But those days are long gone. Many colleges now have gone to kind of an al-la-carte model. But there’s a narrow band,” he said, “that schools like the University of Dallas, Franciscan, Benedictine, Hillsdale Grove City College that have maintained and sometimes double down on a traditional core curriculum.”

Tate explained that college and universities adopting woke ideologies and curriculums has been an alarming trend contributing to the rise in application for those faith-based colleges which still utilize a core, classical curriculum.

Hillsdale College, for example, had recorded a 53% increase in applications as of April 2022.

“The story of American higher ed really for the past half century has been a story of one college after another really trashing any kind of a serious core curriculum,” he said.

Recently, the State University of New York (SUNY) system will require all new students to take courses related to social justice and diversity, equity, and inclusion beginning fall 2023.

    Fascinating!

It was around 2006 that it became clear to us—that is, to Stephen Blackwood and James Atkins Pritchard, the founding principals of Ralston College—that reform of higher education from within was a losing battle: that only new institutions could be sufficiently free from the ideological momentum, rent seeking, and corruption of the status quo….

Does the College have any political or religious affiliations?
No, the College is fiercely non-partisan.

    That can’t hurt…

A graduated student from my homeschool co-op is attending Mt. Liberty College in Murray Utah. Very small, very classical, and sounds very interesting. I almost wish I had time to devote to that. For fun – I have a BA from (what was then) a traditional liberal arts college.

Claremont Mekenna is on the edge. While still STEM, the faculty is now reputed to be 90% Democrats and trying to drag into the BORG.

A “classical” education is fine. But even in the 1800s, a reasonably educated , reasonably ambitious American could function in French and/or German and/or Latin.

If you’re bright enough to speak English then you’re bright enough to speak Spanish.

– – – – –

A young American today who does not make it a priority to learn Spanish is going to be left behind. It’s already happening.

Hard to have much sympathy for such people or their families. I mean, I’m not trying to be mean here, but jeeez … you can start with on-line instruction and go from there.

Your goal is to pass the SIELE C1 regardless whatever else other education schooling job travel etc ……… that you might choose to do going forward.

Hillsdale is one of perhaps a handful of colleges to which I would send one of my children. I wish I knew then, when they were at university, what I know now.

Just know that Arhn is a member is good standing of the “conservative” Bilderberg Group, the Council for National Policy, which has been all the big names (Fitton, JC Adams, et. al) who have collected your donations over the years and done NOTHING of their lofty stated mission. I trust none of them anymore. After all, our worst enemy before and since the Coup of 2020 has been the “republicans”. Fact.

Trade schools are where a youngun’ is more apt to acquire a useful skill that will provide a decent life quality throughout their career.

I believe the same thing. I mean, what HR department even gives a second glance at resumes showing tiny colleges?

The State of Tennessee uses its lottery money to give each high school graduate with a diploma from a TN high school, their choice of two years of a Junior college or two years of a trade school. All paid! That is my kind of thinking. What a young person does with it form there is their own decision, but most get a job and fund their own higher ed if they choose to do so..

My concern with a Hillsdale is that the “woker” Society gets the more likely that a well-educated graduate from there will be blackballed. IMO some trade school education or making the most of the Community College – State School opportunity is what makes sense.
