Fauci Starts His Retirement Reviewing Recent HIV Vaccine Trial Failure
Former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases head Dr. Anthony Fauci said he was “disappointed” but “not thoroughly surprised” by the result.
The clinical trial for Mosaico, an experimental HIV vaccine regimen developed by Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a division of Johnson & Johnson) with funding from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under Dr. Anthony Fauci, recently ended in a significant failure.
The only vaccine against H.I.V. still being tested in late-stage clinical trials has proved ineffective, its manufacturer announced on Wednesday, another disappointment in a field long beset by failure.
Dozens of H.I.V. vaccine candidates have been tested and discarded over the past few decades. The latest defeat sets progress toward a vaccine back by three to five years, experts said. Still, other options in early-stage trials may yet turn out to provide a powerful bulwark against H.I.V.
…The trial now ending, called Mosaico, began in 2019 and was led by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, part of Johnson & Johnson. It tested the vaccine in 3,900 cisgender men (those who have always identified as male) and transgender individuals who have sex with cisgender men and transgender individuals, in more than 50 sites in nine countries in North America, South America and in Europe.
The vaccine contained a mosaic of components meant to target several different subtypes of H.I.V. present worldwide. But the immune response it provoked against the virus did not include significant amounts of the so-called neutralizing antibodies that are considered the most powerful weapons against infection.
So just as he started his retirement from the highest-paying federal job, Fauci was interviewed by Yahoo News to comment on this failure.
Years before Fauci became the face of the nation’s COVID-19 vaccine initiative, he was best-known for his work during the HIV/AIDS crisis — spearheading research for treatments since the early days of the discovery of the virus in 1981, when it began wreaking havoc in the gay community. Fauci once described the period before therapeutics were available as “the dark years of my life and career,” and told Yahoo News he had “the experience, the privilege and the pain of for years taking care of persons with HIV who had almost a death sentence every time you had someone get infected.
…Fauci said he was “disappointed” but “not thoroughly surprised” by the result. A year and a half earlier, Janssen announced that a sister study known as Imbokodo had proven to be safe but ineffective at preventing HIV in women in sub-Saharan Africa — which was an ominous sign to researchers that they were probably not going to see a dramatically different result in the Mosaico trial.
In another interview with WebMD, he discussed his future retirement plans.
What I want to do in the next few years, by writing, by lecturing, and by serving in a senior advisory role, is to hopefully inspire young people to go into the field of medicine and science, and perhaps even to consider going into the area of public service.
Almost certainly, I’ll begin working on a memoir. So that’s what I’d like to do over the next few years.
Intriguingly, there is no mention of congressional hearings or responding to Twitter File drops with him as the main focus.
They are delayed til later this month as the journalists need to visit Twitter HQ to finalize the threads

This a perfect example of why we should never allow career bureaucrats to exist.
The Swedish career bureaucrats are the ones who kept the country open, and mask free and kept their society afloat.
Eliminating bureaucracy is a pipe dream at best and utterly insane. What institution do you think doesn’t have it?
We need to work on eliminating corrupt self serving bureaucrats who are ideologically committed.
Less revolutions, more fixing problems.
This is why I advocate for a Federal Department of Internal Affairs with the full power to investigate and prosecute misbehavior by federal agencies and agents. Until these people have a reason to fear being arrested and prosecuted they will continue to act in criminal ways.
Yes. Term limits for bureaucrats now. Even before term limits for elected positions.
My opinion of Fauci—He is a combination of shaman, showman and bullshitter.
The absolutely final and comprehensive review of this entire Covid debacle.
Read it all. It’s a comment from a scientist walking through how he finally arrived at his decision to not get vaxxed. I printed this and walked through his timeline and highlighted the parts that factored into my decision just to see how I fit into it. I made my decision earlier for reasons he didn’t list but the timeline includes just about everything that was revealed here at LI and certainly confirmed to me that I made the right decision very early on.
It may be an interesting read, but I didn’t need to do all of that studying and researching to arrive at the conclusion the vaccine was worthless. I arrived at that conclusion just by listening to Tony Fauci open his mouth. To this day no one has asked that fraud what research and literature he read to make him abandon the futility of masks – a position he held until 30 days into the entire COVID fiasco. At that point I knew the entire thing was a fraud.
That’s true for those of us who aren’t credentialed. Scientists have to defend their opinions with science. I had already made up my mind in December 2019 that something was amiss when right at the outset, news that had already been reported was being memory holed. A Chinese scientists working in a Vancouver lab arrested for smuggling the deadly virus to China, that Vancouver lab assuming biological research work Obama had ordered stopped in the US, that the lab in China (Wuhan) was funded by the US, the denial by CDC that the virus escaped from that lab and not transmitted by bats or pangollins from the wet market, etc… By early 2020, long before the vaccines came out, I was already digging my heels against whatever government nonsense was heading our way. I didn’t even know who Fauci was at that time.
I became resolute because there still were qualified scientists (Dr. Kelly Victory and Leslie here) who were doing reporting at great risk to their licenses. None of this inspired confidence that we were being told the truth. I definitely wasn’t going to take the poison poke upon release. I was going to wait and see. What sealed the deal for me was granting Big Pharma immunity from the usual liability that comes from dangerous drugs. That did it for me.
The beauty of being me is that I form my opinions very early based on information that comes out as soon as these events occur. How information previously reported disappears is very revealing. It doesn’t take a scientist to tell me the government is lying. It’s the National Enquirer rule and why they have a history of getting it right early. Capture the information as it is reported early on and you probably can guess with accuracy where things end up.
It’s like Rand Paul has said several times, Fauci is responsible for the death of millions. And it started long ago. HIV, Ebola, and Covid 19. Our top health “expert” was a mass murderer.
Fauci has to be strong contender for TIME Magazine’s Woke Man of the Year.
In a just world, the retirement of Fauci the Sociopath would be him rotting in prison awaiting execution for his crimes against humanity per the Nuremberg Codes.
It isn’t just…. those rotting are the victims. As for “woke man of the year” so woke because he put so many into everlasting sleep.
What is it with this guy’s weird fetish for “vaccines?”
We’ve had sustaining treatments for decades: see Magic Johnson, the man born with his porn name.
Could it be that vaccines, unlike tretments, permanently change the livestock into something better suite — the New Soviet Man, at last?
How can we miss him if he won’t go away. Just go away Tony.
Will no one rid us of this turbulent quack?
He’s retired. Put him out to pasture and make sure he stays there — even if it takes putting some of the pasture on top of him.
Turbulent Quacks — little-known trip-hop group from back in the day. Got traction with one, from their second album: “Sounds Like Dan Rather.”
(OK, not really, but should have been.)
