Chip Roy Confronts Maxine Waters With Her Own Words on Socialism

“Simple question: Do you stand by that statement?”

A fascinating exchange between Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) and Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) happened during a House Rules Committee hearing.

Roy reminded Waters about some comments she made a few years back about socialism and the government taking over private companies.

Legal Insurrection’s Stacey Matthews wrote at RedState:

The subject of the hearing was a discussion of a resolution titled “denouncing the horrors socialism,” which is sponsored by Rep. Maria Salazar (R-Fla.) and which was introduced on January 25th.

At one point during the hearing, Roy confronted Waters with her own words where she essentially endorsed socialism…

“I’ve got one question for the ranking member,” Roy continued, looking at Waters and then his notes. “Ranking member Waters, in a 2008 hearing you said quote, ‘and guess what, this liberal will be all about? This liberal will be all about socializing, would be about basically taking over the government and the government running all of your companies,’ end quote” Roy said. “Simple question: Do you stand by that statement?”

Waters responded by first claiming that socialism was “basically a non-issue” and saying that the federal programs she was trying to protect were the same ones Roy wanted to protect.

Roy didn’t take the bait and insisted on Waters addressing the 2008 remarks he referenced where she appeared to advocate for a government takeover of the oil industry. Waters denied twice during their back and forth that she was a socialist. She later claimed she was a “capitalist” in what hilariously came across as Maxine Waters denouncing Maxine Waters when all was said and done.

Here’s the video:

Did Maxine Waters actually say this? Yes, she did. Let’s roll the tape:

Good for Chip Roy for bringing this up. I’ve been waiting years for someone to confront Waters over those comments.

Maxine Watters has long been known for advocating the nationalizing of oil companies, just like Venezuela did!

Ah, yes of course, Venezuela, where the government socialized the oil industry, and the country’s economy as well as the country itself quickly collapsed in a matter of years and has never recovered.

Hats off to Chip Roy for exposing the hypocrisy, corruption and the lies of one worst politicians to ever get elected from California—Miss Maxine, the terrible.

Let’s not overlook that the government took possession of a “house of ill repute” and it had to close in bankruptcy because they couldn’t figure out how to make a profit from selling booze and sex.

Well, to be fair, it’s a subject Democrats simply don’t understand. You have one who thinks it has something to do with sniffing kids’ hair, another who married her brother, thousands who can look inside their own pants and still not figure out which restroom they should use, and hundreds of thousands who are apparently dumfounded when it results in babies.

Why do we call people like Maxine Troubled Waters liberals? There is nothing liberal about socialism in its various iterations. Socialism takes away people’s rights to make their own decisions. It is the very opposite of liberalism. More properly it should be called fascism.

Because the leftists stole the word, just as they steal everything that isn’t nailed down.

They don’t just steal words, they melt them down and add 2/3 rubber and 1/3 flubber so that, later, they can easily bend them to mean anything they want them to be.

My point is that we should not accept their terminology. It’s like the meek acceptance by those on the right of the red/blue color scheme in election reporting. The real reds are the DemoncRats, and they should be labeled as such. The real liberals are the people on the right who value liberty, not those on the Left who would regulate us to death and deprive us if our liberty.

Jack, the “red= Republican” and “Blue=Democrat” assignments have always caused me momentary confusion as I read or hear a news report. Today’s Democrats definitely deserve the “red” label.

The ranking member is indeed rank.

I’m not enthused by the argument that nationalizing the oil industry led to disaster in Venezuela. That might work as an argument, if Venezuela had been the only country to do so. But it was far from the only one, and far from the first, and in most countries it seems to have worked out well — but it was equally wrong. It’s wrong no matter how well or poorly it works out, for the exact same reason that robbing a bank or mugging an old lady is wrong, no matter how well it works out for the criminals.

Quite true. Nationalizing industries is rather common. Post WWII UK comes to mind. Without the Thatcher Era, the UK would be in a deeper hole than now although they are digging deeper and faster presently.

It harms every time, just sometimes there is enough built up capital you can cancel valise that you can ‘get away with it’. It still wasn’t a net benefit.

henrybowman in reply to Milhouse. | February 2, 2023 at 4:34 pm

But mostly because it confuses cause and effect. Nationalizing the oil industry wasn’t the cause of the disaster, it was more like a symptom of it. Like the curtains the dying man grabbed on his way to the floor.

She is all about socialism until it gets in the way of the money shes made off car dealerships.

Maxine waters is not one of the brighter lights in Congress

Confronting the opposition and creating the contrast between the ideologies is useful. It’s similar to the campus videos where commitment to various leftist policies is exposed when the questioner forces them to declare if they are personally willing to pay the price of the sort of policies they say they want.

There are still folks out there who can be swayed by these sorts of confrontations. Sure it’s a bit of theater but still effective for all that it is contrived.

not surprised chip appears to use flash cards when trying to communicate with her–with an iq hovering in the 60s, she’s virtually incoherent in her responses regardless

Have we learned nothing from Libs of TikTok? Quoting what people actually said, or noting what they actually did, is beyond the pale.

Auntie Maxine is a mental midget that has gotten a pass for years based on being one of the intersectional protected class. It’s long past time to call out these buffoon race grifters for how stupid they are.

She will be partly responsible for the destruction of America as we know it today. Uses the Race issue to separate the races and more importantly get her elected.
