San Francisco Reparations Panel Now Recommending $5 Million for Each Black Resident

A panel in San Francisco looking into reparations is now recommending a one-time payment of $5 million to black city residents who are deemed eligible.
We have been following this story, and the numbers keep going up rapidly.
Several weeks ago, in early December, the number was around $200,000 per resident.
Two weeks ago, the number jumped to $1 million each.
Now it’s $5 million.
The New York Post reports:

A San Francisco panel studying reparations has proposed a one-time payment of $5 million to each black resident of the city deemed eligible as recompense for the “decades of harm they have experienced,” according to a report on Monday.
“A lump sum payment would compensate the affected population … and will redress the economic and opportunity losses that Black San Franciscans have endured, collectively, as the result of both intentional decisions and unintended harms perpetuated by City policy,” the San Francisco African American Reparations Advisory Committee said in a draft report issued last month, Fox News Digital reported.
The proposal could cost the city, which has a 2022-2023 budget of $14 billion, roughly $50 billion, the Daily Mail reported.
The committee also proposed wiping out all debts associated with educational, personal, credit card and payday loans for black households.
You may think this makes no sense because California wasn’t a slave state. This is the response:
It added that members of the black community demand reparations “not to remedy enslavement” but to “address the public policies explicitly created to subjugate Black people in San Francisco by upholding and expanding the intent and legacy of chattel slavery.”
The report notes that while neither California nor San Francisco “formally adopted the institution of chattel slavery,” other aspects of segregation like white supremacy and “systematic repression” found in the legal system, “social codes” and “extralegal actions” were designed to exclude blacks.
Victor Davis Hanson recently spoke to Tucker Carlson about this issue and noted that California is too broke to do this:

Reoperations for what, exactly?
As far as I know there is no living person in the US that has been subjected to slavery. Their fantasies of oppression do not qualify.
Anyone who was lucky enough to be born in this is privileged by that one simple fact, period.

Reoperations are for people who are unhappy with their gender surgery and want to switch back.
If you want equity, you will have to give reparations to everyone so that everyone ends up with 5 million. Those who have more than 5 million will have to give to the have nots.
It goes without saying, all finances will have to be redistributed at the end of each month.
Of course, to have true equity, life expectancies will have to be re-adjusted as well.

$50B seems too low. Google say that there are 45,000 African-Americans in SF. It would be racist to exclude a single one. That would be $225B.

I think you’re on to something here. If you really want to be honest about racism, you have to acknowledge that black people can be some of the most virulent racists out there. They’re sometimes anti-white, but they also discriminate against their own based on shade of darkness.

Most recent census data says that San Francisco has about 815,000 residents, of whom about 5.2% are black. At $5 million each, that’s just under $212 billion. If each non-black resident of the city were required to pay the tab, that would be a tax of about $275,000. Each.
I’d very much like to see that math put forward in the major San Francisco newspapers.
I saw a break down of this elsewhere. The cost could be far higher than even $200,000,000. It seems the bill doesn’t breakdown how long a person lived in SF or even if they are still there. If someone had lived in SF until 10yrs old and then moved to Buffalo it appears they are still in line for some money. A black family of 4 are now worth $20,000,000? How many homeless are going to flock to SF? If this bill passes and I were black I’d immediately move there and stake my claim then get the heck back out.

There’s likely to be some disappointment when $5M each is not in fact handed out. The City of SF and State of CA gov’ts are creating expectations that will not be met with all these commissions. People are getting a very false sense that these are done deals. When this doesn’t occur there will be sincere unhappiness that will definitely manifest in unproductive activities.
That and the pace of Sanfransiscans leaving town will pick up.

This goes far above the $5million lump sum cash payment, starts on pg 32. Tax credits, and supplemental income handed to them for at least the next 250 years, if they make less than $97,000. They also want the city and county to issue a formal apology for past harms, etc. pg 31. They want special home ownership privileges to be handed to Section 8 voucher holders. pg 37.

There’s a guy living one county north of me who won a multi-million dollar settlement because of police misconduct – he was a known drug dealer and they tried to beat a confession out of him for something he actually didn’t do. Used to drive by it every day when visiting my sis up that way. Only a few years in he had to put it up for sale.

Not every poor person is poor because of poor personal choices, but quite a few are. Handing them money will make them not poor – until it runs out. Statistically, not being a single mom kid and a bunch of other family life factors are far more significant indicators of if you’re likely to grow up in poverty than skin color. Not trying to “poor shame” here folks, but the days when it was legal to pay or hire workers based on skin color are not today. Equal Opportunity for the win.
A guy at our church (a bunch of years ago) was part of a company that bought up lottery proceeds and other windfalls. They would pay, say, 20¢ cash per dollar of the remaining annuity. They made great money, and all those people who got in WAY over their heads could get back out of the debt they’d piled on after receiving the windfalls.

When the customer defaulted, the rehabber would repossess the house, fix it up, and run the game again. This went on for years, until he discovered appliance loans were far more lucrative than real estate.
Yeah, too many poor people don’t realize the rip-offs that are payday / tax refund loan stores and rent-to-own stores. If every other paycheck you have to take out a loan to pay your rent on time you’re doing something wrong – best to avoid paying that loan fee & interest and keep your whole paychecks. And if you can live without the big screen tv, stereo system, and matching furniture until you can pay cash you’ll pay 1/4th of the pay-to-own cost.
Leaving the army for civilian life I moved into a nice new apartment with a futon mattress, a folding chair and table, and a footlocker to put my old crt tube TV on. Waiting to pay cash for stuff saved a bundle and at the end I had a fully furnished place. Including an extra long sofa I bought at the local rent-to-own warehouse where they resold the stuff they yoinked back from late payers. It would have cost $4000 to RTO that sofa over 5 years, the listed retail was $1000, I got it used for $400.
Seriously, lots of folks make a nice living off poor foo’s poor choices.

The simple solution is to, of course, just contact The Fed and have them run off a batch of bucks ($220,000,000,000 or so) and just pass this out to the estimated 44,000 ‘African Americans’ who, by some calculus, qualify for this. “Chappie” by J. Alfred Phelps, a biography of General Chappie James (poorly written but informative and inspiring)
“American,” an autobiography of Lt General Benjamin O. Davis, Jr (well written and also informative and inspiring)
Both books describe in distressing detail and authentic language the racist policies of the Army Air Corps/Army Air Forces and the American population in general that tried to beat these men down and prevent them from working to reach the lofty goal of wearing stars on their shoulders. As a son of the Old South, I remember some of the things they describe. If you want to be inspired, I suggest finding these books and reading how perseverance and discipline can be their own reward.
Since so many of those who need to see what they *could* do suffer from a dearth of both perseverance and discipline, as well as an ability to read past third grade level, the ones who need to see what these men did for themselves are unlikely to benefit.
