The Battle for RNC Chair is Getting Tricky for Ronna McDaniel

“Under Chairwoman McDaniel’s leadership, the GOP lost both houses of Congress and the White House, and seriously underperformed in 2022 by further losing ground in the Senate and only barely winning a majority in the House”

The battle over who will be chair of the Republican National Committee is starting to heat up. At first, it looked as though Ronna McDaniel, the current RNC chair, would hold on to the job.

Then Republican lawyer Harmeet Dhillon threw her hat into the ring. Lee Zeldin, who grassroots Republican activists favored, decided not to run but doesn’t think McDaniel should serve another term.

Now some other groups are starting to step away from McDaniel.

The Texas Tribune reports:

After disappointing midterms, Texas GOP votes unanimously for a new national leader

Frustrated with the outcome of the midterm elections, the executive committee of the Texas GOP voted unanimously Saturday to call for new leadership at the national party.

By a vote of 62-0, the State Republican Executive Committee passed a resolution saying it had lost confidence in the chair of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel. The resolution said she “must be replaced” but did not endorse a challenger.

“Under Chairwoman McDaniel’s leadership, the GOP lost both houses of Congress and the White House, and seriously underperformed in 2022 by further losing ground in the Senate and only barely winning a majority in the House,” the resolution said, adding that new leadership is necessary to “address deficiencies in fundraising, messaging, GOTV and election integrity.”

A few days ago, the Arizona GOP passed a resolution calling on McDaniel to resign:

The Hill notes that the process of choosing a chair is designed to favor an incumbent:

Still, McDaniel has racked up endorsements for another term from a majority of RNC members, as well as former RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and Blake Masters, who lost his Senate bid in Arizona last month.

The process of choosing an RNC leader is designed to insulate an incumbent from an outside challenge, former party officials said, making it unlikely the organization will move on from McDaniel before 2024. But that hasn’t squashed dissent among some Republicans.

Something at the RNC needs to change. That much is clear. McDaniel should ask herself if she wants to stand at ground zero if there are painful Republican losses in 2024.

It seems like all the DC swamp critters have a complete lack of shame.

Simply based on the Republican party’s failures, as outlined in the author’s sub-title above, she should show some humility, step aside, and let someone else take a shot at leading the party to a more successful 2024 campaign.

If she had any class at all she would step down.

Ronna McDaniel is an absolute disgrace of a person, and an absolute DISASTER as an RNC chair.

I honestly thought nobody could be worse than that jackhole Priebus but she really stepped up to that challenge.

She has lost THREE CYCLES IN A ROW, the most recent the most favorable for Republicans in a long time, and she and the RNC were more concerned with controlling the campaigns and demanding loyalty than, you know, WINNING.

We won the House IN SPITE of her, not because of her, because DeSantis forced the Florida RINOs to actually make a good map, and Zeldin carried several New York Republicans to victory despite no support from the RNC.

McDaniel, just like McConnell, is far more concerned with maintaining her personal control rather than actually advancing the interests of the party.

So without Zeldin and DeSantis the Democrats might still control the House. Only is politics and crime is there little accountability, and considerable overlap.

      There’s no ‘might’ about it.

They’re only 222 Republicans in the House.

FIVE SEATS is all it would have taken for Democrats to remain in control. DeSantis and Zeldin together contributed 8-9 seats between them (a bit debatable who would have won without Zeldin but that seems to be the common number).

McDaniel didn’t support Zeldin at all, and only paid lip service to DeSantis.

I was listening to Charlie Kirk (Turning Point USA) on the radio this morning. He was going over how the RNC spent donors’ money and did some comparisons to the DNC. He made the RNC out to be a bunch of grifters. The RNC spends 40% of donations on soliciting more donations when it should be a quater of that. It spent about $17,000,000 on memorabilia for donors; the DNC spent about $1,500,000 on the same. The RNC spent about $321,000 on flowers and floral decorations; the DNC spent about $1,000. There were others that he pointed out. I haven’t been donating to the RNC and this convinces me not to do it. I will give to individual candidates. Beside the losing record, this is another reason that the leadership needs to be changed.

Just remember Ronna Romney McDaniel. She fits right in with her Uncle Mitt.

GOP donors are mostly pretty big successful types that don’t care how their money is spent. Most are probably doing it for a tax shelter. This does show up in the expenditures and use of the money, and it is not a pretty picture for conservatives.

However, IIRC, I believe that memorabilia includes print flyers and digital ads/emails/texts in these times, but I could be wrong.

Just remember that Republicans have to work for donations whereas Dems have money thrown at them by the Progressives without much effort involved. Elon indicated that SBF may have not donated $40,000,000 to Dems as reported making him the 2cd largest donor to the Dems after Soros. It may have been as high as $1,000,000,000. That’s why SBF was arrested the day before Congressional testimony under oath, to prevent him from talking with immunity. It’s also why Auntie Maxine tried to shut down the Congressional Committee yesterday before the witness had a chance to be questioned by Republicans.

Then it makes EVEN LESS SENSE that the RNC would be pissing away money on crap like this. $17 MILLION for ‘donor memorabilia’, what the actual ****.

    Its’ worse:

If the Chair isn’t going to fight vote fraud, Uniparty participation it’s useless

If the RNC were run like the capitalist system they claim to support, she would have been fired before the last election cycle.

The results under her tenure are less than fully successful. Whether she is doing it deliberately or not the result is the same; failure to control the Senate is unacceptable. Time for someone less beholden to the DC establishment and more in tune with current tenor of the base voters.

If she was a college football coach she would have been fired after her first losing season. What we are seeing in DC is that the RINOs that are there really don’t give a damn what the voters think or want. Look at how the R Senators voted for McConnell and how they are trying to elect McCarthy in the House. We all know they will never represent us and it is their own power that concerns them. The runaway spending bill that McConnell is telling his members to vote for is a disgrace to any conservative and there was no need for it. But they have to be home for Christmas so that is what it is all about!

I won’t send a single solitary dime to the RNC.

I’m putting MY money in Trump NFC cards!

She clearly did not help any MAGA candidates. It was only money to GOP establishment and some pittance when the light was shining. If Trump was for a candidate then the money wasn’t from her and in many places it meant the GOP lost.

She has been a disaster, pure and simple.

Who decides to put someone like her in place? To keep her there?

Subotai Bahadur | December 15, 2022 at 6:59 pm

The odds are that she will remain the Chair. Her uncle is Mitt Romney, who is the RNC’s beau ideal of a technical Republican who will not only lose to Democrats but will help them get what they want. The last thing she, McConnell, and McCarthy want is Republicans who will oppose Democrats, and they hate the base of their own party more than the Democrats. Oh, by the way, both McConnell and McCarthy were also instrumental in withholding campaign funds from any Republican who might fight Democrats. It is what it is.

The question remains, if it is not possible to take back the Republican Party, what do we do?

Subotai Bahadur

I think there is a real chance she loses

One of the 3 heads has to be sacrificed and it ain’t McConnell and probably not McCarthy…

So….

She’s garbage. Total garbage. The RNC is a total scam:

I’m led to understand Mike Lindell – the bedding salesman – is seeking the job.

    Yeah, that will go well.

“Bedding salesman”? You mean the centimillionaire entrepreneur who built an international juggernaut of a “bedding” company from scratch?

Let’s be accurate: he’d be brilliant at it.

Your comment also reminds me of how people categorized Donald Trump: “reality show star”. No, Trump is a billionaire real estate magnante who built an international empire from scratch – over and over and over. THEN, became a reality show star.

her uncle taught her well, how to take a dive

It’s hard to believe how DUMB we collectively are to allow this clown to remain head of OUR political party.

Never forget: to the RNC, we’re merely guests, and guests they don’t want at their parties.

CNN might offer Ronna McDaniel a paid contributor slot. That would be a great off-ramp for her. Fingers crossed.

This isn’t a hard decision. You don’t keep a coach who can’t win the big game.
