Ron DeSantis Laughs Off Trump: ‘You Take Incoming Fire’ When You Get Stuff Done

“We focused on results and leadership. And, you know, at the end of the day, I would just tell people to go check out the scoreboard from last Tuesday night.”

Former President Donald Trump has made much noise about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis since the GOP’s predicted red tsunami turned into nothing.

Ron DeSanctimonious is playing games!

Trump is supposed to make a YUGE announcement tonight. Some think he’s going to announce he’s running in 2024.

DeSantis responded on Tuesday without naming Trump and also steered the conversation toward the media:

DESANTIS: “I don’t think any governor got attacked more, particularly by corporate media, than me over my four year term. And yet, I think what you — what you learn is all that’s just noise. And really what matters is are you leading, are you getting in front of issues, are you delivering results for people, and are you standing up for folks? And if you do that, then none of that stuff matters. And — and that’s what we’ve done. We focused on results and leadership. And, you know, at the end of the day, I would just tell people to go check out the scoreboard from last Tuesday night. The fact of the matter is — (Applause) — you know, the fact of the matter is we — it was the — the — the greatest Republican victory in the history of the state of Florida.”

DeSantis also told the truth about the miserable midterm elections without, again, not mentioning Trump:

“There were a lot, a lot of disappointments,” Mr. DeSantis told reporters at an event in Fort Walton Beach when asked about Mr. Trump’s planned announcement on Tuesday night. “That’s just the reality. It was a hugely underwhelming, disappointing performance, especially given that Biden’s policies are overwhelmingly unpopular.”

The governor made no mention of the former president. But he appeared to relish contrasting the poor showing last week by many of Mr. Trump’s endorsed candidates with his own landslide re-election victory and successes by other Republicans in Georgia, Ohio and Texas.

“Some of the others,” he said, without naming names or tying them to Mr. Trump, had not fared well. “These independent voters aren’t voting for our candidates, even with Biden in the White House and the failures that we’re seeing. That’s a problem.”

I’m waiting for Trump to rise to the bait. And, he will.

Heh, that’s hitting Trump where he’s vulnerable. He can take being hated, but he can’t stand being dismissed. I love it.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Evil Otto. | November 15, 2022 at 4:35 pm

Exactly. And, all the shouting will be from only one of them. I’m not saying which one.

Editors: “ DeSantis also told the truth about the miserable midterm elections without, again, not mentioning Trump:”

Please. Don’t use no double negatives.

There is an ongoing effort to create division by pitting the 2 most prominent potential candidates for the Republican/Conservative side against each other. The saddest thing is that so many people are taking the bait, including both Trump and DeSantis, and now seemingly Legal Insurrection. And by “LI” I mean authors and commenters alike.

Very disappointing.

And depressing.

Neither Trump nor DeSantis are perfect, but they both have accomplished a lot, and they could accomplish more if they spent less time on petty rivalries. The same can be said about all of us.
I don’t mean that we must hug and sing kumbayahs, but I’m sure there’s a lot that can be done by working together, leaving the differences aside so that we can address them at another time.

I can see where this country is going, probably better than any of you, because I’ve been there before. And I see y’all like cattle pushing one another on the way to the slaughterhouse, oblivious.

You will fully deserve what’s coming.

I’m sorry for being so blunt, but there is no other way to tell you.

Dimsdale in reply to Exiliado. | November 15, 2022 at 4:41 pm

Agreed. It seems to be very easy to blame Trump for everything, including the election results.

Now who would benefit from that?

healthguyfsu in reply to Dimsdale. | November 15, 2022 at 6:03 pm

The same people who would benefit from running Trump again. The same opposition party who put money behind Trump endorsements just to make their election path easier.

They used Trump like a 2 dollar whore.

TheOldZombie in reply to Exiliado. | November 15, 2022 at 4:43 pm

Yeah. Looks like the Dems will cakewalk into a 24 win because we on the right where too busy fighting each other.

    I do hope I’m wrong…. 🙁

Colonel Travis in reply to Exiliado. | November 15, 2022 at 4:51 pm

Can I let you in a little secret? The division between Trump and DeSantis support is real. Yes, there is political gamesmanship going on. But along with Never Trumpers you have Trump Reluctants. The gamesmanship is to make that voter gap between Trump and DeSantis as wide as possible. That doesn’t mean the gap never would have existed otherwise. DeSantis is giving Trump Reluctants the opportunity they didn’t have before. Can Trump close that gap? I don’t know. The midterms sure didn’t help.

The gap is not a problem.
      There will always be gaps.

The problem is the “Dig! Dig! Dig!” frenzy.

Colonel Travis in reply to Exiliado. | November 15, 2022 at 5:44 pm

The Republican Party of Texas came out with a poll yesterday.
        DeSantis – 43%
        Trump – 32%

I’m telling you, the midterms were a big blow to Trump. Yeah, that’s something that can be exploited. Then again, why do you think it can be exploited in the first place? Because the midterm results are something that people see with their own eyes. DeSantis won big. Trump did not. That really did happen.

Trump can make up ground by getting Walker over the finish line. I don’t know how much of an effort he’ll make. I believe Walker was the only Trump Senate endorsement who didn’t get a Trump rally before the election. When I read that, I was floored. Trump is a tireless campaigner, he needs to help Walker bigly.

healthguyfsu in reply to Colonel Travis. | November 15, 2022 at 6:00 pm

Actually, those data are trying to tell you something.

A majority of the party don’t want to see the “What will Trump do next” show anymore. It had a pretty good opening act, but after that, it was an avalanche of letdowns.

The vast majority of Trump-endorsed candidates WON.

Saying otherwise is untrue, and it advances the left/RINO narrative.

Like I said earlier, you all are working hard to earn what’s coming.
          No offense intended.
Just the truth as I see it.

Colonel Travis in reply to Colonel Travis. | November 15, 2022 at 6:48 pm

Exiliado, almost all Trump-endorsed candidates were never in jeopardy! This is exactly why there was no red wave. Look at Trump endorsed Governor races, for example. He backed 9 candidates. 3 of those 9 won, 1 is still being counted but looks like a win, so let’s bump it to 4 out of 9. What were those 4?
          Alaska
          Nevada
          Oklahoma
          Texas

Nevada was the only question mark. The others was like picking the Yankees to win the World Series in the late 90s.

Trump governor losses: Michigan, Pa., Wisconsin, Kansas, Arizona. Those were not guaranteed loses.

It is misleading to say Trump had a great midterm. He’s about 50/50 in all the races that could have gone either way. It’s those individual elections that mattered, not the aggregate.

Look, I am not a Never Trumper. But I want intellectual honesty above anything else.

Ghostrider in reply to Colonel Travis. | November 15, 2022 at 7:31 pm

Agreed, but what if these social media and presser spats are all a show? If Trump announces and wins the nomination, who is his early favorite running mate b/c if it’s not Ron, he might gravitate to picking Kari Lake.

CommoChief in reply to Colonel Travis. | November 15, 2022 at 7:58 pm

          Exiliado,

The bulk of those claimed are House races in pretty safe seats. Claiming them to pad the stats is bad enough. Sorta like a top ten College football team being exited the beat their D2 opponent on Homecoming; they are expected to win that one. To then ignore the results for Statewide offices Gov and US Senate is worse.

The Col has explained this very well.

Close The Fed in reply to Exiliado. | November 15, 2022 at 7:49 pm

Would you say that DeSantis did any digging, or was his approach helpful?

          They are all digging.
That includes Trump and DeSantis themselves.

And please note that I am extremely satisfied with DeSantis’ performance here in Florida. I voted for him, and if he does not change, I will vote for him again for whatever office he runs for. He will make an awesome POTUS.

The divisive infighting is what I am complaining about.

DeSantis, though, was not responding to Trump. I have listened to these clips many times, and I just don’t get that. He talks about the media attacks on him, and you live in Florida, you know what he’s dealt with. I don’t think this was a swipe at Trump AT ALL. He explicitly mentions the media when he is talking about “incoming fire,” so I’m not sure how it’s a swipe at Trump.

Dathurtz in reply to Exiliado. | November 15, 2022 at 5:48 pm

Yep, but I am not smart enough to prevent it. The only futures I see are submission to open tyranny or an actual hot combat/insurrection. Both of those look like they will really suck.

Danny in reply to Dathurtz. | November 15, 2022 at 8:28 pm

Congratulations on making us all look insane because you can’t accept the results of an election.

The options are for us to pick people who could win or keep suffering Democrat abuses.

For me it is easy lets pick someone who could win.

Nobody wants a civil war; it would look like the Russian Civil War following WW1 not the American Civil War and would probably kill many millions more because of how much the technology has improved since 1917.

Nobody wants to hear revolution, nobody wants to hear 2020, nobody wants to hear your vote doesn’t count they want to hear about issues they care about.

Glenn Youngkin won a blue state by understanding that.

GravityOpera in reply to Exiliado. | November 15, 2022 at 11:12 pm

The division already exists, it does not need to be created, and merely complaining about it does nothing useful. Coming up with a way to break Trump’s cult of personality is the only way to stop the fighting and close that division.

Evil Otto in reply to Exiliado. | November 16, 2022 at 5:22 am

Trump was the one who picked this fight. He outright threatened to reveal damaging information on DeSantis if he decides to run against Trump in the primary.

“If he runs, he runs,” Mr. Trump said. But, “If he did run, I will tell you things about him that won’t be very flattering. I know more about him than anybody other than perhaps his wife, who is really running his campaign.”

Those are his words, and they’re not the only direct attack on DeSantis Trump has made. This isn’t a case where the media is building up a false narrative, though they’re happy to see it happen.

Ron DeSantis is a class act. A leader who gets things done, and who doesn’t engage in endless attacks and name calling.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to JR. | November 15, 2022 at 5:14 pm

He also at least SEEMS to select good people to get the various jobs done and get rid of this who don’t.

xleatherneck in reply to JR. | November 15, 2022 at 7:53 pm

“Ron DeSantis is a class act.”
    ——————————————

    He’s a class act, alright.
During the debates, when Charlie Crist asked him whether he was going to run for national office in ‘24, or devote his time as Governor of Florida, DeSantis just stood there like a fool and said nothing. A class act would have finessed an answer that left both doors open. But you can’t really blame DeSantis. He was probably told by his financial backers to keep his mouth shut about running for President. And you’re not going to like the people that are backing him.

DeSantis isn’t who you think he is. Anyone could have figured that out, without knowing who his financiers are, by how he handled the raid on Mar-a-Largo. After a brief initial statement, he disappeared, publicity, for days.

That didn’t sit well with me and opened my eyes.

Trump wasn’t beholden to anyone. DeSantis is going to be beholden to people that are anything but America first. As much as I think Trump should tone down his rhetoric, he understands this, and that is what is really at the heart of his verbal jabs.

DeSantis will run for the Presidency in 2024. He has hundreds of millions in his war chest. That money isn’t there for local office.

    I don’t trust the man
    But that’s just me….

I think “hampered” is an understatement. IMO Trump would have been re-elected if not for his DOJ (Sessions, Rosenstein and Barr) and FBI (Wray) picks; his failure to drain the Swamp; and listening to his son-in-law Kushner, who reportedly got Trump to dump Chris Christie from heading his Transition team and CC’s desired AG job (supposedly because Christie put Kushner’s father in prison). Pompeo was first rate, however.

Colonel Travis in reply to xleatherneck. | November 15, 2022 at 8:24 pm

“A class act would have finessed an answer that left both doors open.”

      This made me laugh.

1.) Any finesse answer he could have given would have made him look like an idiot. The only possible truthful answers are yes or no. That’s it. All other answers are bullshit and everyone knows this.

2.) If he said, “No, I won’t serve all four years” he’d probably lose the governor’s race and screw up the rest of the state. If he said, “Yes, I will serve all four years” then changes his mind, he loses credibility in his presidential run.

Every answer, including shutting up and giving no answer, was bad for him because everyone knows he is considering the presidency. He picked the least bad choice among them.

Not sure why you care, because he doesn’t have your vote anyway.

By starting with a lie you made the rest of that post unworthy of being read.

“Charlie Christ is the only old donkey I am putting out to pasture right now”

      That is silence to you?

DeSantis has a lot of contributors because he is a good guy running on important issues.

If you are here to demonize Ken Griffin just F off. The man is funding a crusade against CRT which is as far as I’m concerned one of the primary reasons the Republican Party exists.

I do not believe in demonizing people solely because they are rich. Sorry hard pass to your bolshevism because that is all you have to claim Ken Griffin is bad.

“And yet, I think what you — what you learn is all that’s just noise. And really what matters is are you leading, are you getting in front of issues, are you delivering results for people, and are you standing up for folks? And if you do that, then none of that stuff matters. ”

I’m going to go ahead and slightly disagree with this statement and here’s why. DeSantis has an EXCELLENT team from PR to policy. His team has consistently made the media look stupid in their troll criticisms of DeSantis. None of them have stuck so far.

Unfortunately, Trump couldn’t do that. The biggest part of it was who he picked to work with; he overvalued “loyalty” (suck ups in blunt terms), and he undervalued continuity. His staff was pure chaos and gave the media plenty of material. Trump definitely fought back but sometimes he fought back in both petty and poorly delivered ways. It has cost him a huge reputation hit over the last 4 years or so. He ended up embarrassing himself quite often whether he realizes it or not.

Let’s hope that we can all settle down and get Walker over the hump and see what happens in the ongoing ballot counting elsewhere along with the inevitable law fare to follow.

If folks want to throw elbows at each other then fine.

Arguably, Trump cost us the last two years of Biden’s garbage legislation and the inflation that went with it, by blowing it in GA in the two runoffs of the 2020 race. If he does it again by announcing his candidacy now, putting his name on the GA ballot, I think that damages Walker. We need every Senate seat now, so we can take control decisively next time.

henrybowman in reply to CommoChief. | November 16, 2022 at 10:21 pm

We couldn’t get Kari Lake or Doctor Oz over the hump, but we still think there’s a chance for Walker?
    Dream on.
Or find someone willing to put a live boy AND a dead girl AND a GoPro in Warnock’s bed.

DeSantis is looking more and more like a back-stabber.

Playing to mob action instead of instructing them to wait for the campaign.

    txvet2 in reply to rhhardin. | November 15, 2022 at 6:52 pm

An extraordinarily dense comment, given Trump’s actions over the past week and a half.

CommoChief in reply to rhhardin. | November 15, 2022 at 8:01 pm

Care to explain what you found wrong with his remarks in more detail v broad generalities and innuendo?

Try “Ron Sanctimonious”, just before the election, putting his BS front and center in voter’s minds as they went to the polls. Then the so-called Chinese VA Governor “Young Kin” shortly thereafter. I told my wife in 2020 that Trump would not be re-elected if he did not become “Presidential”. I think he has proven that it is not in his character/personality and my view of his electability has not changed. Furthermore, IMO the party that first realizes that 2024 should be a next-generation candidate election and puts real money behind the theme will have “first-mover” advantage.

That’s gonna leave a mark. If there’s one thing Trump can’t handle, it’s being laughed at or dismissed out of hand. (OK, that’s two things.)

Hmmm, sees that some folks here are like The Dixie Chicks….bound for irrelevance!

I support Trump and DeSantis. I will say, DeSantis has had it much easier, in that he has a cooperative legislature, which Trump most certainly did not.

The U.S. Congress is really a chinese-front organization.

Trump had a cooperative legislature for the first two years of his presidency.

henrybowman in reply to Danny. | November 16, 2022 at 10:25 pm

No, he had a color-coordinated legislature, that’s all.
The Republican Congress did more dindu for Trump than all of Arlington National.

The problem, of course, is that hasn’t and won’t change. Even if Trump is somehow elected (which I highly doubt), he’ll have the same pushback from Congress, not to mention the deep state, and all the other things he mishandled the first time around. And now he’s endorsing McCarthy for House Speaker, yeah, that shows real growth and understanding of what he is facing. (not)

You’re right, and I don’t disagree. But it’s fair to point out that DeSantis doesn’t go out and insult members of the legislature on Twitter when they don’t agree with him on every detail. That does make for a somewhat better working relationship.
