Jerusalem: Teenager Killed, 22 Injured in Twin Terror Bombings

A police spokesman describing the bombs as “two high-quality, powerful explosive devices with a high level of damage.”

A 16-year-old boy was killed and over twenty people were injured when two powerful bombs exploded in western Jerusalem early morning Wednesday.

“The first explosion occurred close to the main entrance of Jerusalem in Givat Shaul, shortly after 7 a.m., peak commuter hour. The second blast occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m., at Ramot junction, another entrance to Jerusalem,” The Times of Israel reported.

The remotely operated bombs that went off during rush hour were packed with nails to cause maximum harm to commuters. A police spokesman described the bombs as “two high-quality, powerful explosive devices with a high level of damage.”

“The preliminary investigation reveals the explosive devices were placed in bags near the bus stops by two separate perpetrators and detonated remotely using cellphones,” the Israeli news website Ynet News reported.

The sole victim was identified as 16-year-old Canadian national Aryeh Shchupak, who was on his way to a yeshiva, a Jewish religious school.

The Jerusalem Post reported the details of the bombings:

At least one person was killed and 19 wounded in two explosions in bus stops at separate entrances to Jerusalem on Wednesday morning, in what police are treating as a coordinated double terror attack.

The fatality was identified as 16-year-old Aryeh Shechopek, who was on his way to a yeshiva in a nearby community when the explosion occurred. The Canadian citizen lived in the capital’s Har Nof neighborhood.

Both explosions, one at the entrance to the city near the Central Bus Station and the other in the Ramot neighborhood, occurred at bus stops during rush hour. The explosive devices were said to have been placed in bags left at the stations. (…)

One of the injured was Naomi Pilichowski, the daughter of Uri Pilichowski, a Jerusalem Post columnist and a well-known American-Israeli educator who works at Nefesh B’Nefesh, and Mitzpe Yericho Mayor Aliza Pilichowski. She was lightly injured in the attack.

Hamas, Islamic Jihad “Praise” Act of Terror

Palestinian terrorist groups hailed the twin bombings that took the life of a teenager and left several innocent Israelis critically injured. The Gaza-based terrorist group Hamas and Iran-sponsored Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) issued statements glorifying the attack.

The Israeli TV channel i24News reported:

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) extremist group issued a statement on Wednesday praising two terrorist attacks that killed at least 1 and wounded nearly 20 in Jerusalem, shortly after Hamas also welcomed the explosions. (…)

“The operation in the occupied city of Jerusalem is a natural response to the occupation, its terrorism, and its criminal practices against the defenseless Palestinian people and their holy sites,” PIJ said in a statement.

“The operation says to the leaders of the Occupation and the leaders of the settlers that none of the policies of your criminal government will protect you from the strikes of our people’s resistance,” it added. (…)

“The Zionist occupation is paying the price today for its crimes and aggression against our people and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and we have warned about this repeatedly,” the spokesman for Hamas, Abd Latif al-Kanou, said.

“Our people will not remain silent in the face of this, and the outrage Al-Aqsa will explode and spread in all regions,” he added.

Palestinians resident in the Israeli city of Hebron and the West Bank were seen distributing sweets to ‘celebrate’ the terror blasts, social media posts show.

PIJ Terror Group Pulls Israeli Teen off Life Support, Takes Away Body

In another inhuman act, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist group, on Wednesday, pulled an Israeli teenager off life support and took away his body. On Tuesday, 17-year-old Tiran Ferro was seriously injured in a car crash outside the Palestinian town of Jenin and was rushed to a nearby West Bank hospital for emergency surgeries.

The boy “was still alive” when PIJ gunman stormed the hospital and took his body,” The Jerusalem Post reported. “He was in critical but stable condition and removing him from the ventilator is what killed him, the father and uncle Hady Ferro claim,” the newspaper quoted his family members.

The newspaper Israel Hayom reported the heinous incident:

Israeli authorities assess that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist group is involved in an incident Wednesday morning in which a body of an Israeli man killed in a car crash was taken by paramedics rather than handed back to Israel. A renegade Fatah group claimed responsibility later for taking the body, with some family members of the deceased telling Army Radio that the man was taken off life support at the hospital before being snatched, essentially killing him in the process.

Comments

My black humor satirical comment is that if Jews started flying airplanes into office buildings, taking and beheading hostages, shooting up concert halls, driving trucks into crowds of pedestrians, tossing homosexuals off of rooftops, assassinating cartoonists and novelists, etc., they might suddenly become as popular with European, Leftist dhimmis and America.n Dhimmicrats as Muslims currently are.

The second bomb, which went off at the Ramot junction in northern Jerusalem, did very little harm: three people were lightly injured by shrapnel, and some more people were treated for shock. But this was not how it was supposed to happen.

Ramot junction is a busy interchange, and there are usually many people waiting for buses there. Had the bomb gone off five minutes earlier the damage would likely have been even worse than the first bomb.

But by a sheer miracle, just before the bomb went off several buses showed up at once, and everyone waiting for those buses boarded them and left. The bomb went off just as the last of that batch of buses was pulling out. Thus there were only a very few people left at the stop, and that’s why there were so few injuries.

Note re the spelling of the teenager’s name: Hebrew is written without vowels. Part of learning to read is learning how to pronounce each word, and how to figure out from context which word is meant. That works for normal words, and also, mostly, for Hebrew names. But with foreign names there is simply no way to read them in a Hebrew newspaper and know how they should be pronounced, or transcribed into English. So people just have to take a guess, and those guesses are influenced by how familiar one is with the language of origin.

“Shchupak” is likely to be correct; but the Jerusalem Post‘s “Shechopek” is how a typical Israeli would attempt to pronounce it. Israelis have a real problem with sequences of consonants, and automatically insert vowels into them. For instance there is a Lincoln Street in Jerusalem, but almost all native Israelis pronounce it “Lincolin”.

On Tuesday, 17-year-old Tiran Ferro was seriously injured in a car crash outside the Palestinian town of Jenin and was rushed to a nearby West Bank hospital for emergency surgeries.

Tiran Ferro was an Israeli citizen, but a Druze Moslem. That’s why the paramedics thought it would be safe to take him to a hospital in Palestinian Authority-controlled territory. Had he been Jewish he would never have been taken there; the ambulance would have taken the risk of a longer journey to a hospital in order to take him to one inside Israeli-controlled territory, figuring that while he might die en route, at least if he got there alive he would not be murdered.

Depending on who’s doing the proclaiming, Druze is heretical, pagan, gnostic, or worse. Some high-population Muslim sects account them fellow Muslims — sort of — but it’s better to think of them as similar to Yazidi in Iraq. Druze have even been identified, perhaps wrongly, as “Christian” in news reports from time to time.

Druze account themselves Abrahamic, and honor many of the prophets of those religions. But, we’ve seen The Narcissism of Small Differences play out in religions aplenty, and Abrahamic religions in particular. I’m certain there are quite enough devout willing to kill them for their heresies.

For any of the murderous reactionary not-true-Muslim (because everybody says so) groups that kill Israeli’s as policy, Tiran Ferro’s religion would be no protection, as we’ve seen.

When will Jews finally bring real terror to both those near them and Iran. Turning Iran into a stone age country without electricity, no fossil fuels and no water revivors and keeping them in that condition, would stop their reign of terror.

Most Iranians don’t support their government. The palestinians on the other hand, strongly support Hamas or other even more radical groups. Israel should inflict as much pain as possible on them but they won’t.

The uprisings in Iran show promise. Still, if Iran needs to be subdued, then all Iranians might have to pay a price for that.

I find the current situation unacceptable, especially the prospect of Iran having nukes. As far as I am concerned, there is no limit on how many Iranians die to prevent that.

A potential tactic, and one that might actually be legal, is to treat as a war criminal any person who hands out sweets to celebrate terrorist attacks. Such a person might be deemed to be part of a criminal enterprise to encourage future murders.

Milhouse in reply to Ira. | November 23, 2022 at 5:54 pm

It wouldn’t be legal here in the USA, since such sweet distribution would be clearly covered by the first amendment. But the first amendment doesn’t apply in Israel. There is no freedom of speech there. So depending on who the next Defense Minister is we may see these laws enforced.

The newly elected government headed by Netanyahu should put the Palestinians/terrorists on notice that should these terrorists’ activities continue, all Palestinians will be removed from Israel and the Gaza Strip could likewise come under Israel control and the non-Israeli population be expelled. Live in peace or be expelled! It is time for Israel to reclaim its Land of Israel by removing all Arabs from the land in order to make a Jewish state with a Jewish majority viable from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River. Israel should be established in this area and nothing else. In other words, no other state between the sea and the river.

That transfer is justified not just because of Arab violence, but because the entire concept of “Palestine” is bogus and always has been. There is no justification for an Arab country inside of Israel. These people are not descendants of the Philistines, who went extinct long before the Romans tried to kick the Jews out. Even if they were it would be a dubious prospect.

    Milhouse in reply to jrcowboy49. | November 23, 2022 at 5:56 pm

That depends on what kind of government Netanyahu puts together. If, as I expect, he will bring Gantz in and screw Ben-Gvir, then there is no prospect of any such thing happening.

If he gives up on that plan and goes with Smotrich and Ben-Gvir, then they would certainly be pushing for your proposal, but the Supreme Court will not allow it, so they’d have to pass a law allowing the Knesset to override the Supreme Court, which S and B-G are demanding but might not pass.

mrzee in reply to Milhouse. | November 23, 2022 at 6:41 pm

Even with Smotrich and Gvir in the government, with Netanyahu as PM nothing radical is going to happen. Media propaganda notwithstanding, Netanyahu has always governed as a centrist.

When he was elected in 2009 he wanted to form a National Unity government, it was Tzipi Livni who refused. It was Netanyahu who froze construction in Judea and Samaria for ten months. It was Netanyahu who released hundreds of prisoners for the “privilege” of negotiating with Abbas.

The Israeli right’s biggest complaint is they elect the right and get the left. The last truly right-wing government was Yitzchak Shamir’s and he was brought down by the right.

At last someone else here who knows the truth about Bibi. Every time I point out that he’s a total squish, Israel’s equivalent of Laurence Graham, I get hammered by his worshipers here, who think he’s “Mr Security” (and remember how that one turned out). Practically the first thing he did when he first became PM was to give Hevron away; but no, everyone else here seems to think he’s a tough guy. He talks a tough game, but so does almost everyone; his actions don’t match.

Which is exactly why I think he wants Gantz in his government and Smotrich and Ben-Gvir out of it. He will stab them in the back without the slightest twinge of conscience, and bring in Gantz who is a committed leftist. Or at least he will try to do that.

Back in the Obama years, a former IDF told me a joke that had been going around in her unit. Translated into English, “There’s a cookie called a Napoleon and a cookie called the Netanyahu. It’s the same recipe but with no eggs.”

If you understand the Hebrew idiom, you’ll get it.

Milhouse in reply to Milhouse. | November 25, 2022 at 9:54 am

It works the same way in many languages. Spanish, for instance.

Milhouse in reply to Milhouse. | November 25, 2022 at 9:55 am

Of course I meant Lindsay Graham, not Laurence. I have no idea who Laurence Graham might be.

How much will US taxpayers pay these terrorists for their crimes, courtesy of Joe Biden?

Rashida Tlaib is likely applauding. My words for her would violate community standards

According to Arutz 7, the Druze boy Tiran Fero’s body is on its way back to his family.

“ Israel had worked over the past day to end the incident on the diplomatic level – and this is also the message that had been conveyed to the Palestinian Authority, Channel 13 News reported.

At the same time, together with the diplomatic message, a clarification was also conveyed to the PA that if the matter is not resolved in this manner, the defense establishment is prepared to return the body by military means that will exact a price from the PA.

According to the report, Qatar, which has no official relations with the State of Israel, was also involved in the diplomatic effort to recover the body. Along with the Qataris, the UN envoy to the Middle East and the US administration, which also conveyed messages to the PA, also worked on the issue.

On Wednesday evening, as the PA continued to refuse to return Fero’s body, the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) announced additional sanctions on the PA, in the form of the closure of the Gilboa (Jalama) and Salem crossings starting Thursday and until further notice.***

In addition, a group of masked and armed Druze men was recorded on Wednesday evening threatening, “If Tiran Fero’s body is not returned by tomorrow morning – we will enter Jenin.”“

I suspect that the Druze would have been much less restrained than the IDF.

During the, ?second-latest?, ?third-latest?, war in Southern Lebanon, the Druze Militia were a far greater problem for the other combatants than their numbers suggested. Home ground; fighting for family and belief, makes one formidable, it seems.

Indeed, part of the long-past stability in Lebanon included cooperation between the government of record, and the Druze, not exactly seen as coreligionists.

Of course, the regional powers couldn’t have any prosperous “live and let live” so was the mess they proxied in Lebanon to get at Israel, or to topple an inconvenient example? Embrace the healing power of “and”, I suppose.

An editorial in today’s Arutz 7 laments that we don’t respond to these attacks the way that the Druze do. https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/363345

That article raises an interesting point about the US. You don’t mobilize to protect yourself or yours unless you believe in your right to live, and your own agency.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s Sikh, Jewish, or Christian celebrants at a service — specific recent congregation protection events in the US come easily to mind from these three religions. It doesn’t matter whether it’s choosing to own a gun, or simply stand outside the business that sustains your life to stop it being burnt down.

The ruling policies and projections of our media, governments, and pan-governments in the end demand negating those two beliefs: your life is worth nothing in itself, and you have no agency, in ability, authority, or right.

Of course they don’t want people believing these things. Such people might arm themselves to take care of one of their own, whether the authoritah find that convenient, or not.
