The Martha’s Vineyard Story Made the Left Look Bad, and the Hits Keep on Coming

“We don’t have the services to take care of 50 immigrants, and we certainly don’t have housing”

Yesterday, I noted how the Martha’s Vineyard incident brought out a lot of moral superiority on the left. What they don’t seem to get is that the optics of this entire affair have made them look bad. Really bad.

There are so many examples, but here are a few big ones.

The very people who claim to support sanctuary policies didn’t last more than 24 hours before having a mere 50 migrants removed.

A supposed advocate for the homeless on Martha’s Vineyard was one of the first people to say that the migrants had to be moved somewhere else.

FOX News reported:

Martha’s Vineyard homeless advocate says migrants there will eventually have to move ‘somewhere else’

A homeless coordinator in Martha’s Vineyard, the latest destination where migrants are being sent by Republican governors in an effort to bring attention to the southern border, said that the island doesn’t have the resources to help them long-term and that they will eventually have to move ‘somewhere else.”

Lisa Belcastro was speaking to reporters Thursday about the community response to the newly arrived migrants.

“We don’t have the services to take care of 50 immigrants, and we certainly don’t have housing,” she said. “We can’t house everyone here that lives here and works here.”

Here’s the video:

They don’t have the resources? This is one of the wealthiest communities in the country.

It’s like they couldn’t wait to get rid of them.

NBC News tweeted and then deleted a comparison of the migrants and taking out the trash.

Yes, really.

Someone started a GoFundMe and raised over 40K. Is there not enough private wealth on Martha’s Vineyard?

The White House can no longer claim the border is secure.

Remember when the idea of bringing in the national guard was racist? Not anymore.

Here’s another great sign from the island.

If you’re still wondering why this brought out so much anger from the left, this is it.

Their bluff was called. Big time.

Ah, hubris for breakfast. So delicious.

Venezuelan asylum seekers are probably more “legitimate” than most. Maybe these Martha Vineyard people don’t like to be reminded that is where their policies lead to.

Also, lack of housing must be some joke. We are past Labor Day. There are likely a lot of accommodations available.

I would not be surprised if most of the houses on MV have guest houses so could easily accommodate these 48 “refugees.”
However what the residents of MV are probably really worried about is the continued wave after wave of new arrivals should they accept these first arrivals. Of course I am all for sending more, a lot more, of the illegal border crossers to MV. I support sending as many as needed to get their attention.

We can add the Hamptons, NY, Burlington, VT, Vail & Aspen, CO, Boston, MA, and sundry other wealthy neighborhoods in Los Angeles, Silicon Valley and San Francisco to the list of destinations that should be receiving bus or planeloads of illegal aliens from the southern border.

Dimsdale in reply to guyjones. | September 17, 2022 at 2:04 pm

I elect Northampton and Amherst, MA.

Actually, the good people of the Hamptons and Burlington watched their towns get invaded by the leftists who ruined what they had, so they should not be forced to suffer more. Oh, and don’t forget the leftist invasion that is destroying Montauk and the North Fork.

guyjones in reply to exfed. | September 17, 2022 at 6:46 pm

There’s always been a divide in the Hamptons between seasonal, generally wealthy homeowners, and, year-round, generally working-class residents. I promise you that the former will suffer a lot more from the presence of illegal aliens, than the latter. A political statement needs to be made.

As a Vermont native I saw first hand what happens when Progressives from NY, CT, MA and NJ invade, buy up the land and impose the same policies that destroyed their states which is why they moved in the first place.

If everyone has to pay their “fair share” in taxes, then everyone should have to take their fair share of illegals.

Leftists are bad people. They don’t believe any of the crap they spew and it’s all a projection front. It is a wonder Republicans ever conceded any issue to these immoral bastards.

Note this article – https://nypost.com/2022/09/17/aoc-slams-migrant-buses-as-crimes-against-humanity/

If I were an illegal, I would think that I had died and gone to heaven to go to Martha’s Vineyard instead of to some south-Texas shelter. Furthermore, the government flew 5oK in night time flights to places like White Plains, NY. They set the standard for this paltry 50.

That is what is looks like when disconnected elitists are confronted with reality. The problem to them is that WE “just don’t understand”. Somehow, they will again come out of this preaching their virtues. We are just too evil to understand.

It’s easy enough for these Dumb-o-crat elites to plant a $5 virtue-signaling sign in the front yard spewing the standard, self-congratulatory Leftist platitudes, and, declare to the world that the sign represents adequate proof of one’s alleged virtuousness and moral probity.

What we’re seeing, now — not that proof was required, on this score — is that Dumb-o-crats can’t countenance personally bearing the deleterious costs of their own destructive and foolish policies. But, it’s supposedly okay if other, less well-off Americans bear that cost.

If you follow the right threads on Titter, they all have each other convinced that Ron DeSantis is Satan and Hitler, all bundled up together in a sharkskin suit. They list all of the “horrendous” things he has done, completely oblivious to the fact that Biden has been doing all those very same things for two years.

There are 5 million illegals ALREADY

5MILLON in less than 2 years!!!!!

Ironically, it is the poorest American citizens, whom the Democrats pretend to care about, who are hurt the worst by this.

      Dimsdale in reply to jb4. | September 17, 2022 at 2:06 pm

That does appear to be the outcome of all of their communist policies.

nordic prince in reply to jb4. | September 18, 2022 at 2:08 pm

Related: the Ds claim to be “for the little guy,” but all their policies, legislation, and regulations constantly and consistently favor Big Biz.

Tucker Carlson reported that the gofundme money will NOT be used to help these migrants. Rather, it is for Martha’s Vineyard, to help them deal with/fend off future migrants.

Because they need to sucker poorer saps around the country to help the multi-millionaires deal with their migrant problem.

The Left was blindsided and reflexively acted as they truly are. Given spare time, I bet they would have created a false narrative just like the Nazi’s (yep, them guys) did for the 1936 Olympics. Watch for the creation of such a narrative to erase the truth. The key was… a September Surprise from Florida and Texas.

One of the wealthiest enclaves in the country — populated by insufferably and obnoxiously narcissistic, sanctimonious and holier-than-thou Dumb-o-crat elites, naturally — is alleged to not possess adequate resources to take care of a mere fifty illegal aliens (now euphemistically referred to as “migrants,” in a change of pace from the Dumbs’ previously preferred euphemism, “undocumented immigrants”), but, far poorer towns on the U.S. southern border are alleged to have more adequate resources. In other words, “Let the peasant, working-class schmucks” deal with the problem.

Narcissist-incompetent, Obama, and, his noxious wife could easily host at least fifteen of this group of fifty aliens in their palatial beach house on the Vineyard — and, that’s just one mansion.

The Dumb-o-crats’ failure to comport their deeds with their holier-than-thou, “social justice” rhetoric represents glaring and brazen hypocrisy.

Dimsdale in reply to guyjones. | September 17, 2022 at 2:09 pm

Yet they ignore the plight of border towns like El Paso, which absorbs, and is still absorbing, orders of magnitude more illegals than they have seen (and broomed).

MattMusson in reply to guyjones. | September 17, 2022 at 4:03 pm

They concentrated the ‘others’ in the community center until the soldiers came to take them away to a ‘camp.’

henrybowman in reply to guyjones. | September 17, 2022 at 5:54 pm

Every so often, back in the ’60s, my dad would let me come with him on one of his runs to deliver bulk ice to one of the groceries on the island. Despite the inevitable deadly dull traffic jams both ways over the grossly under-engineered Bourne bridge, I’d jump at the chance to ride in the big 18-wheeler, and take the ferry ride both ways, in order to keep each other company on a task that pretty much ate up one entire workday for him. But he always cautioned me to avoid interacting with the people because they weren’t like the people in our neighborhood. Not in a “lock the doors as we drive through” kind of way, quite the opposite. The kind of people who grew up knowing that the only thing lower than a servant was a servant’s kid.

guyjones in reply to henrybowman. | September 17, 2022 at 6:51 pm

A revealing anecdote, indeed. For all their transparently hollow virtue-signaling posturing and “social justice” rhetoric, the only Hispanics that wealthy Dumb-o-crats living in Martha’s Vineyard, the Hamptons or Silicon Valley can countenance being in close proximity to are landscapers, housecleaners or carpenters/plumbers/electricians.

Perhaps a busload will be delivered to a large church like say, the Church of the Resurection in Kansas. Their reaction might be quite different. I hope it would be very compassionate.

“America is the wealthiest country on earth! Of course we can take care of everyone in need!”

“Cool. And Martha’s Vineyard is the wealthiest place in America. Have some needy people.”

“WE DIDN’T MEAN IT LIKE THAT!!”

Abbott/DeSantis should be mailing the bills for the transportation to the Sanctuary States and Cities.

“Diversity is our Strength.”
Are they not Strengthened?

Bigotry writ not so politically congruent (“=”). This is a baby crying the world’s smallest tears.

Here in Florida we expect the Stasi, I mean FBI visit Governor DeSantis at the mansion in Tallahassee.

These “in your face” counterattacks by the Republicans were unthinkable until an escalator ride in 2015.

Dimsdale in reply to Oracle. | September 17, 2022 at 2:12 pm

That is the greatest truism of all.

When TDS made them expose themselves for what they truly are, and not what they claim they are.

Could someone please send a busload to Rob Meathead Reiner’s house? And then start moving them into Hollywood.

JHogan in reply to Oracle. | September 17, 2022 at 6:43 pm

Trump showed the way. Trump exposed the Dems and the GOPe and The Swamp and the MSM for what they really are. They all hate him for it with a white hot burning passion.

And Trump showed he could do it and get 75 million votes in approval. Far more votes than any fake-conservative GOPe candidate for president was ever able to con and deceive voters into casting.

MV doesn’t want to make the investment necessary to permanently support an influx of illegal immigrants. It is that simple. It costs lots of money to support housing and schooling. Sure some of that is offset eventually by the Feds but not the upfront costs to build additional classrooms and low income housing.

Then there are the social aspects. Language barriers and translation services. Potential rising crime depending upon the individuals who arrive. Decreased property values adjacent to the new low income housing project.

MV reacted in a logical manner. No majority in any community would voluntarily vote to accept the costs and burden of a permanent and once a toehold is created, an increasing presence of illegal immigrants.

The problem is that the folks of MV ask to deny everyone else the same option they invoked; pass the buck to someone else. The ‘virtuous’ folks want to retain their options, lecture you and I about morality and set National policies re immigration from which they demand to be exempted.

Sending 50 illegals to MV exposed these folks for the hypocrites they are. They know it and can’t stand it. Instead of being emotionally mature adults and applying some logic or introspection they instead lash out and seek to lecture us (what’s new), this time about the cherry picked tenants of a religion they don’t really believe in.

It’s not that they don’t want to make the investment necessary to accommodate the ‘migrants’.

They simply do not want them there.

They already have all the maids, housekeepers, and landscapers they need. And ‘those people’ either live off the island or in areas they are restricted to when not serving the elites.

Not to mention those ‘migrants’ may not have had the requisite Covid jabs.

Recall how at The One’s big 60th birthday bash all of the help were wearing masks and the ‘guests’ were not.

CommoChief in reply to JHogan. | September 18, 2022 at 6:00 pm

Exactly so. They reject the illegal and the costs. MV could obviously afford to house, feed and care for fifty illegals. It isn’t about this group of fifty, it’s about the successive waves of illegals and those costs they reject.

MV would rapidly lose its character and charm if they built low income housing tenement buildings. They would no longer a refuge from the poor policy choices made by the elites who maintain homes there.

That’s the whole reason they flocked to MV, to escape. They don’t want to have a bunch of illegals running around MV anymore than any other community does. The difference is MV seems able to prevent their presence while the rest of America bears the burden.

Have the self-righteous leftwing elitists requested the National Guard provide a thousand troops to secure the airport against any further unwanted ‘migrant’ incursions?

Perhaps they should build a wall around the airport, or something.

henrybowman in reply to JHogan. | September 17, 2022 at 5:59 pm

But as Afghanistan proved. they haven’t yet figured out the finer points of how to make fences around airports actually work.

I’m sure we can reach some compromise with the Left on this.

According to the MV GoFundMe, it costs around $850/ day to take care of one of these poor refugees. So, just charge the sanctuary cities who don’t actually want them fees, payable to the border towns who end up with them.

nordic prince in reply to malclave. | September 18, 2022 at 2:15 pm

Now there’s an idea. Forget about “carbon credits” – let’s set up “illegal alien credits,” where $$$ flows from sanctuary cities to the towns that actually have to put up with the consequences of these destructive policies.

This is the hypocritical nature of woke NIMBY radicals on full display

Obama’s birthday party on that island had 475 guests and 200 staff, but they don’t have any place for 50 refugees? Yeah, right.

DeSantis should respond to Gov Hair Gel and drop several busloads on Sacramento and Ken Doll’s vineyard not to mention Pelosi’s vineyard, Breed’s sanctuary San Francisco and Palo Alto.

It won’t surprise me one bit if Gov. DeSantis has a few dozen FBI agents paying him a visit soon.
The left does not like it when you make them look bad.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see the FBI charge him with human trafficking.

In Massachusetts, if you are not from he’ah then you are from “away”. Fifteen years in Rockport, MA and I never found a friend. You know who people are and acknowledge them but finding a friend is improbable for someone with a southern accent.

It is MUCH worse on the Cape where they don’t really want visitors and the beach is private. If the beach must be accessible to the public you can be sure that there will be no possibility of parking within miles of the access.
