California Residents Forced to Prepare for Rolling Blackouts as State Leadership Pushes ‘Green’ Initiatives

California Residents Forced to Prepare for Rolling Blackouts as State Leadership Pushes ‘Green’ Initiatives

“California ISO warned residents earlier Tuesday to be prepared for the possibility of rotating power outages and issued an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) 2 for 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.”

The operator of California’s power grid is advising state residents to prepare for rolling outages because of a heatwave. Governor Gavin Newsom constantly brags about the state’s commitment to green energy, but he can’t even keep the power on.

How will they power all the electric cars once they ban gas-powered vehicles if they can’t keep the power on?

Bradford Betz reports at FOX News:

California power grid operator issues stage 3 alert level, says rotating power outages ‘very possible’

California’s power grid operator declared a stage 3 energy emergency alert Tuesday evening, warning that rotating power outages were “very possible” as a brutal heat wave walloping the state pushed electricity demand to its limits.

“Energy Emergency Alert 3 with rotating #power outages very possible. Please reduce your energy use,” The California Independent System Operator (ISO) tweeted.

Several hours later, at 8 p.m., the ISO ended the alert which was initially scheduled to continue until 9 p.m.

The grid operator said energy conservation “played a big part in protecting electric grid reliability.”

“Thank you, California!” it added in a tweet Tuesday evening.

California ISO warned residents earlier Tuesday to be prepared for the possibility of rotating power outages and issued an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) 2 for 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Some 67,000 Californians were without power Monday evening, according to powerotage.us, while ongoing power outages affected more than 40,000 Pacific Gas and Electric Company customers across 28 counties.

As you may know, when something like this happens, the media plays a game on who or what is to blame. If a Republican is in charge, the Republican is blamed, but Democrat leadership is never to blame:

It’s also important to remember that the Democrats running the country see California as everyone’s future. Biden’s Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said so just recently:

The worst part is that none of this is necessary. It’s being done by choice.

Keeping the power on is one of the most basic duties of local government. The people of California should be outraged.

Is an electric car even cleaner when you can’t charge it?

Talk about digging deeper….

Third world leadership, third world results.

Can’t wait until all the cars are electric!! Newsome’s “five year plan” is working just like they always do in socialist societies.

Venezuelafornica?

Many of these recent electricity demand records that are falling were set in 2005-6 or earlier. The state population has grown significantly since then so the government has had plenty of time to do the planning. Yet our electricity generation capacity is still the same. And the distribution facilities have been allowed to deteriorate while PG&E and SoCal Edison are rewarded for all of the fires they set. SCE is responsible for a current major fire in LA.

CA is the 6th largest economy on earth and we pay more taxes than anyone while being the biggest parasite sucking on the national teat. Yet we have 3rd world transportation and power systems. Listening the Hair Gel everyday “advising us” to cut back our usage and not recharge our electric cars is infuriating.

We are PAYING to be a 1st class modern economy. It is not too much to expect our government to provide the modern comforts and plan ahead. They have no problem finding billions to fund “bullet” trains to nowhere that never seem to get built. We send money to Ukraine and take in the world’s poorest and least skilled populations.

This is a man-made problem that has been in the works for decades now and the day of reckoning has arrived. We ALL, not just CA (you hear that?) keep voting for the Uniparty corruption. We gleefully vote our constitutional rights away as if we can vote them back in if it doesn’t work out.

So all you “molon labe” and “from my cold dead hands” tough guys, what’s your plan now? Don’t mess with Texas? You mean wide-open borders, sanctuary city Texas? That Texas? There is nowhere left on this planet to run to. We are either going to figure out a way to win (civil war won’t get it done) or the grand American experiment is over. If Trump gets arrested, what do you DeSantis people think he can do to save the day? We are THAT close to losing every. If you aren’t on board in today’s fight hoping there is another hill to die on, just get out of the way.

Hey, now! A state that has given our nation the Bush’s, Jackson-Lee, and Lyndon Johnson is perfect!

Exactly. I don’t hate Texas. I have friends and clients there and used to visit every other year for a while but I really do believe that unless Texans retake control of their cities, they will end up like CA. Same is true everywhere in the US. People who don’t think so are living in blissful ignorance. It’s a trade-off between safety in numbers vs solitary obscure existence out of view from the zombies populating our cities. That’s why I am finding it difficult to leave CA. It’s not so much about red vs blue, it’s about finding somewhere that is far enough away from big cities (I prefer small towns) but not isolated from modern amenities. I kind of like electricity. That’s why I like Prescott AZ.

Texas is at least smart enough to keep their own grid. Now, if they will just give the Fed the finger since they aren’t helping with the border anyway and go full nuclear then they can pretty much do whatever they want on energy.

Texas was a Democrat state until the late 20th Century. It’s actually been moving red for the past 30 years or so, until the California invasion started. Even the RGV has become more conservative over the past couple of years, primarily due to the failure of the Feds to protect the border. Ignore the left coast gaslighting.

The problems you so aptly describe remind me of a Trump quote: “We gotta quit being the stupid country.”

Exactly. That is why they are so unhinged. He threatened to expose the corruptocrat’s incompetence and self-serving malevolence and rile the good people of America up against them.

And those California bast&rds are moving into my neighborhood outside of Austin

They have bought numerous houses and yesterday one put a 4×6 “vote Democrat “ sign up

    I want to throw up

    Numerous Beto signs, one Abbott

I do think my neighborhood of 1100 houses has turned purple, maybe blue, but I don’t think Republicans want to adverts ymore as then are terrified

Yeah, and we are counting on these people to rise up

    Not going to happen

You are living in your own head. Those Californians are moving to Austin because your governors keep subsidizing CA tech companies to move their. Most of those “Californians” were in CA because that is where the jobs are but came from somewhere else. There are plenty of home-grown left-wing whack jobs in Texas. Failing to understand that is a big reason why I am very reluctant to move there. I moved to CA when it was a red-state “Reagan country” state. The Cheney administration destroyed that. Yes, it was the Republican party that destroyed CA. The Bush Texas crowd came into CA to co-opt the recall election and stripped the CA State GOP Committee’s of its conservative planks and replaced them with Arnoldism. Then the state GOP fled the state. I see the same exact thing going on in Texas today where several of our Republican politicians fled to join up with Rick Perry. So now the target is TX and FL. AZ is getting a new life but we’ll see. GA, doesn’t look good. Trump is very popular in CA, AZ, GA, TX, FL and other swing states so there is still hope.

I have pointed that here at LI for maybe 100 times by now but “in one ear, out the other”. Willful ignorance.

Yeah, California’s problem was the Joads. Although I do agree with you about Texas governors enticing California companies to come here and bring their whacko left-wing employees with them. Horrible mistake.

California is your future. And, Europe is your dystopian future.

75% of all the Pubs in Britain are going to close because of unpayable electric bills. Some are over a thousand years old and survived Viking Raids and the Black Death. Now, Green Fascists are killing them.

There will be violence in Western Europe. Maybe even color revolutions.

The pubs will also be closing because of CO2 shortage. When did CO2 become an essential additive for brewing beer? You would think that we could still brew beer with yeast, malt, barley etc…. Take longer but hell, they are charging something like $25 per mug already. Stop chugging quick brew swill and start sipping quality aged beer.

Forget 1984, A Clockwork Orange is their new goal. At least New Orleans and the levee committee is still rallying around “A Confederacy of Dunces.”

Morons.

How cute – people still think the point of an electric car is to free you from the gas pump.

Silly wabbit – it’s all about control.

Maybe the citizens should revolt against their government, kind of Insurrectiony.

JackinSilverSpring | September 8, 2022 at 7:56 am

The morons in charge (voted in by the people) want to go all-electric, but that will require a several-fold increase in electric generation. Yet these morons close power plants including nuclear power plants and have replaced them with technologically inadequate wind and solar. So right now they can’t supply enough electricity with the current demand given the current array of electric appliances and cars. These morons appear willfully blind to the collision course they are in with reality. Maybe it will take the total collapse of the electric grid for the people to vote these morons out of office.

Probably. And all the while, our “free and unbiased” press will be selling the idea as wonderful.

I would say Europe would be a wake up call, but Venezuela wasn’t, and that’s right next door. These people are industrial grade useful idiots.

    These morons appear willfully blind

No, they aren’t blind, they’re evil.

Nice jacket for 78 degrees

Well, of course, Newsome is fully air conditioned. Probably like a meat locker in his office. He needs the jacket!

You can’t expect a person like him to conform to his own rules, can you? Shades of John Kerry…

California is a great place to visit but given its present one party very blue and equally very woke political rule you could not pay me enough to move to California

Vistra (NYSE: VST) today announced that its DeCordova Energy Storage Facility in Granbury, Texas, is online and storing and releasing electricity to the ERCOT grid in time for another hot Texas summer. The 260-megawatt/260 megawatt-hour battery energy storage project is the largest of its kind in the Lone Star State.

Major success with the installation of 260mw of battery storage – enough to power 130,000 homes during average electric usage (52,000 homes during summer peak usage)

Note that the storage is for only one hour. ONE HOUR!

did I mention that the Backup storage power is good for one hour! truely our salvage from the pollution that causes global warming

did I mention that the feb 2011 freeze, the wind did not blow for 9 days in Texas (9×24= 216 hours = 1/216)
did I mention that the Feb 2011 freeze, the wind did not blow across the north american continent for 4 days (4×24=96 = 1/96).
Did I mention that was only 260mw sitting on approx 5 acres. Texas uses about 50,ooo mw per hour. 260 mw x 200 = approx 50,000 mw, which would require approx 150 -180 square miles of batteries to cover a 3 day period .

It aint going to work

    Dimsdale in reply to Joe-dallas. | September 8, 2022 at 9:09 am

The battery tech is just not there, and won’t be without some breakthrough, which the Chinese will steal and dominate.

I am holding out for fusion power, but I not holding my breath.

    JackinSilverSpring in reply to Joe-dallas. | September 8, 2022 at 9:58 am

One thing you forgot to mention was the cost of the one hour of backup, and that includes capital costs over the battery’s lifetime.

    Ironclaw in reply to Joe-dallas. | September 8, 2022 at 3:43 pm

Hmm, I wonder what the price tag is on something like that.

      Joe-dallas in reply to Ironclaw. | September 9, 2022 at 8:34 am

Ironclaw – according to Marc Jacobson and all the other renewable advocates, renewables are a lot cheaper than fossil fuels (LCOE) and cheaper than the social cost of carbon.

As someone else once said – everything is easy if you dont know what you are talking about.

That pretty wells sums up the actual knowledge of the renewable advocates!

I’ve been here for several rounds of this. They’re doing it with water, too.

We get so much hysteria from the alleged leaders and planners, about the State’s inability to deliver the basics of life. They beg and plead for people to conserve. People do. Then, the rates go up, but somehow, the rolling crisis never goes away.

I saw three rounds of this with water, and a parallel campaign with electricity.

Of course, they had to shut down the nuclear plant, and waste half — half!– the water on bait fish in some places.

I live in the sanest part of the State (San Diego County) where services are (mostly) supplied, but the cost is on par with the mortgage on your average house.

Also, this particular electrical crisis is not exactly what it seems. Car-charging is not a problem — if you regularly charge your car at night. I plug mine in, and it waits until super-off-peak time to start charging. I see no difference, so far.

They are imposing pain on people who work. Those people already pay a premium price for electricity from 4-9 pm, because that’s when everybody goes home. Families are most affected. They want you to pre-cool your house too. How does that work?

Well, if you have a Google thermostat, you can schedule cooling so that the place is decently comfortable when you get home, and it will sort of hold a decent temperature until bedtime. Then you can cool, again. Google thermostats can be cut off, remotely.

Pre-cooling keeps the payments to the utility up, while still imposing pain on the consumer.

It’s all about fundraising from taxpayers, again.

Artificial shortages being deliberately created.

This guy is such an empty suit. He’s Kamla Harris, without (you fill it in).

How will they power all the electric cars once they ban gas-powered vehicles if they can’t keep the power on?

They never planned to, because getting the citizenry to drive electric cars isn’t the goal. Eliminating private transportation is.

Victor Immature | September 9, 2022 at 5:26 am

That oily weasel wearing the California republic bear is an insult people east of the Sierras will pick up on. If it matters anymore.

You can bet that place that was filmed in was not 78 degrees or higher. And these new restrictions on power won’t apply to any of the elites. We know that from the lockdowns, right Nancy?

Amazing this guy told 3 lies in one sentence regarding The French Laundry party and he’s still Gov. Not mistakes, outright calculated lies. I guess accountability for that sort of thing went out the window with Clinton.
