Are We Allowed to Talk About George Soros?

The Left’s intimidation tactics are starting to lose their sting. And we have Soros himself to thank

George Soros, the “man behind the curtain,” at 92 years young, is still making headlines, although arguably not very positive ones.  The mere mention of his name last week by Republican Senator Macro Rubio unleashed a flood of baseless allegations of anti-Semitism on Twitter and in the media. Soros, it seems, still inspires the left to defend his behavior in often despicable ways.

What is a Soros backed prosecutor?,” progressives demanded to know, before immediately labeling it an anti-Semitic dog whistle.

False allegations like these have cheapened the meaning of anti-Semitism and have long been used to silence any talk of the Hungarian-born billionaire’s political expenditures, particularly his funding of left-wing “reform” prosecutors. The stifling effect was so strong in 2020 that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was abruptly cut off on Fox News for daring to attribute the spread of riots across the country to the inaction of Soros-funded prosecutors. Fox later apologized, but it was clear, as Gingrich observed at the time, that the topic of George Soros was inexplicably “verboten.”

Thankfully, the Left’s intimidation tactics are starting to lose their sting. And we have Soros himself to thank.

An op-ed written by the man himself early last week titled “Why I Support Reform Prosecutors” severely declawed the Left’s attacks. It’s hard to make allegations of anti-Semitic conspiracy theory stick when the man under fire admits he’s doing the thing he’s accused of (although that didn’t stop many from trying).

In the article, Soros confesses he’s the godfather of the progressive prosecutor movement and declares he’ll keep the funding coming. Give credit where credit is due: Soros is clear about his intentions.

Left-wingers, however, willfully ignored the article, preferring instead to use the taboo they placed on Soros’s name long ago to shut down discussion of policy issues that make them look bad.

Support for Soros-backed prosecutors has left Democrats vulnerable, and they know it. Democrats boosted these officials’ campaigns, cheered for the reforms they promised, and marched hand in hand with the defund-the-police movement during summer 2020. Now that voters see the consequences of “reform,” Democrats are backpedaling as hard as they can, but they can’t succeed if people won’t shut up about the prosecutors they supported.

The solution: go on the offensive. Label any mention of George Soros anti-Semitic. But there’s a problem: Soros is so much a part of the radical prosecutor movement that talking about it without talking about the man behind it is like talking about the war in Iraq without mentioning George Bush. It’s simply not possible without grinding the conversation to a halt.

“Only anti-Semites are curious about what George Soros does with his money,” they claim, and nobody wants to be an anti-Semite, so nobody ever looks. Simple, but effective.

Even those willing to discuss Soros and the nationwide crime spree he’s funding must do it in a veiled way, with no guarantee of cover. Senator Rubio, for example, didn’t actually speak the name “Soros” at all (the reference to “Soros backed prosecutors” only appeared in a subsequent tweet). Instead he talked about rising crime rates, the flawed arguments left-wing prosecutors make, and actions that Justice Department could take to reign them in. None of that ever made the headlines. Yet Rubio’s speech was written off completely and buried under an avalanche of disingenuous smears because he had the audacity to name the man responsible.

That’s not to say that criticism of Soros is never anti-Semitic. There are certainly anti-Semites who obsess over George Soros and make him a punching bag for their hate. But the fact that hateful people also talk about something should not disqualify it from civil discussion entirely. This rule doesn’t seem to apply equally to figures like billionaire Sheldon Adelson and commentator Ben Shapiro, who are arguably more hated by anti-Semites than Soros. The Left holds nothing back when criticizing conservative Jews, and even makes a point of criticizing them for their support of Israel, yet somehow just saying Soros’s name in reference to something he admits doing is a bridge too far?

The progressive left is dedicated to canceling and censoring people and things that might deter the success of their preferred narrative: that they have the country’s best interests at heart.

But if George Soros keeps talking about his support of progressive prosecutors, the Left may be forced to censor Soros himself. One wonders how the man behind the curtain would respond to that.

A perfect example of the left trying to use your own morality, which they do not share, against you.

Are we to ignore that a few powerful families really do seem to be running things and that they seem to be bad people?

The Gentle Grizzly | August 23, 2022 at 7:11 am

Yes, we are allowed to talk about Soros. We don’t only because of the heckler’s veto. Ignore them! Or, shout THEM down.

The days of playing nice are over.

Of course we’re allowed to talk about Soros. He’s a ███████ and ████ man who has ███████ █████ countries. He should be ███ ██ █████ and ████████, but that won’t happen. Preferably using a ████ ███████.

And old George there isn’t looking too good. If you’ve seen any recent interviews or speeches he’s given he looks like he’s rotting from the inside. He resembles Emperor Palpatine. Don’t think he’s got too much more time to enjoy his evil life.

Maybe when his time comes, his family can just pour him down the toilet and flush 2 or 3 times for good measure.

The story states that Soros’s Jewishness is used as a sword to allege anti-Semitic motivations. My defense would be this: He ain’t Jewish anymore.

To think that Soros has any connections to Judaism is to think that people are Martians. His only connection may have been his (purported) reporting of Jews to Nazis in WWII. To me, a Jew, this man is evil, and I think his name says it best: Soros is a near homonym to the Yiddish word, tzuros, meaning deep sorrow.

Jack, you know better than that. He is a Jew because his mother was one. That’s all. It’s got nothing to do with what he believes or how he behaves. He doesn’t believe like a Jew, he doesn’t behave like a Jew, he doesn’t even like Jews, but nothing can change the fact that he is one.

And that thing about him reporting Jews to the Nazis is an evil lie. Repeating it only serves to discredit all the true things one says about him. He is objectively an enemy of the USA and of the Jewish people, and his son Alex is even worse; that should be enough without telling malicious falsehoods about him.

If “that thing about him reporting Jews to the Nazis is an evil lie” then it’s an evil lie he told about himself on national tv. I saw his interview with Steve Croft in 1998. A transcript:

Kroft: “My understanding is that you went . . . went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation of property from the Jews.”

        Soros: “Yes, that’s right. Yes.”

Kroft: “I mean, that’s — that sounds like an experience that would send lots of people to the psychiatric couch for many, many years. Was it difficult?”

Soros: “Not, not at all. Not at all. Maybe as a child you don’t . . . you don’t see the connection. But it was — it created no — no problem at all.”

        Kroft: “No feeling of guilt?”

        Soros: “No.”

Kroft: “For example, that, ‘I’m Jewish, and here I am, watching these people go. I could just as easily be these, I should be there.’ None of that?”

Soros: “Well, of course . . . I could be on the other side or I could be the one from whom the thing is being taken away. But there was no sense that I shouldn’t be there, because that was — well, actually, in a funny way, it’s just like in the markets — that if I weren’t there — of course, I wasn’t doing it, but somebody else would — would — would be taking it away anyhow. And it was the — whether I was there or not, I was only a spectator, the property was being taken away. So the — I had no role in taking away that property. So I had no sense of guilt.”

George Soros father arranged to have his son pose as the Aryan godson of a Hungarian Nazi, a agriculture ministry bureaucrat named Baumbach, whose job was taking inventory of Jewish properties confiscated by the Nazi occupiers. Soros happily helped him with his “work” and had zero qualms about it, then or afterwards.

It is not just the left censoring criticism of Sauros. Many self proclaimed conservative sites also do it. Breitbart and Twitchy come to mind.

I stopped reading them because of the censorship.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Exiliado. | August 23, 2022 at 9:27 am

Breitbart turned to rubbish within about 3 weeks of Andrew’s passing. Flashy things, far more ads, and the comment section looks like something out of CFP or Gateway.

Well done, Parker Thayer!

We are not allowed to talk about the mendacious asses who have conspired against us.

Nobody was allowed to criticize Obama because he was black but people are encouraged to use racial epithets and racist comments towards Clarence Thomas and to slander him.

The lefts primary rules…..well it is censorship.

Soros is Jewish merely by birth.

Soros, although very, very wealthy, is not known for supporting Jewish causes.

Instead, he has used his money to destroy civilization as we all know it.

Soros is pure evil.

He uses many of the same techniques used by Stalin, Hitler, and Mao.

    Like most modern liberals.

Milhouse in reply to ParkRidgeIL. | August 23, 2022 at 11:05 pm

Yes, this is true. Though the emphasis should be on some of the same techniques, not all of them, and not the most significant or the most infamous ones.

juliathemechanic in reply to ParkRidgeIL. | August 24, 2022 at 11:53 am

Of course, Soros is known to speak very derogatorily toward Judaism and loves to support causes that hurt Jews. He also likes to support J Street and taut their great work to help the Jewish people – but anyone who has looked into J Street can see that it does just the opposite. He was the largest financial supporter of Barack Obama, who couldn’t have been a bigger anti-Semite if he tried.

We really need to talk more about the need to regulate no CRT based requirements and discrimination by private corporations

Soros shouldn’t be buying any green bananas, he’ll be in yard soon, hopefully.

Of course not, according to George Soros.
But, yes, we need to talk about him. And what to do about him and the others like him, who want to run the world.

Too bad the US didn’t follow the example of the Hungarian government and deport hI’m.

    Milhouse in reply to Photoman42. | August 23, 2022 at 11:13 pm

It can’t. He’s a US citizen, and there were no flaws in his naturalization that would invalidate it. Once someone has legitimately acquired US citizenship, whether by birth or by naturalization, it can never be take away involuntarily no matter what he does.

(The only loophole in that is if you can prove that the person was never a citizen in the first place, e.g. because their claim to have been born in the USA turns out to be false.)

juliathemechanic in reply to Milhouse. | August 24, 2022 at 11:56 am

It can be. Your citizenship may be revoked if the U.S. government can prove that you joined a subversive organization within five years of becoming a naturalized citizen. Membership in such organizations is considered a violation of the oath of U.S. allegiance. Examples include the Nazi Party and Al Qaeda.

Yes, but we have to call him Sorenson and pretend he’s a Lutheran from Wisconsin.

As far as the Left is concerned, the only good Jew is an anti-Semitic Jew.

Just speaking personally, I don’t take such things as religion or ethnicity into account when dealing with true evil, and there may not be another individual on the face of the planet more evil than Soros. He deserves to live out his life in the deepest hole in the darkest prison, but he won’t, because he “owns” the government.

the SOREOLE is a perfect canidate for a large R.I.C.O. case, but we know money buys justice off. especally with TURDS in robinette bidet lousy doj, which is ran By an IDIOT OF MORON HACK!
