Monkeypox Cases in New York City Double in a Week

Monkeypox Cases in New York City Double in a Week

Washington, D.C., is reporting an 8-fold increase in monkeypox cases.

I recently reported that monkeypox cases have more than doubled over a week in California.

Now, as New York City clears away all the glitter from its recent gay pride parade, it is also seeing a doubling of cases over the past week.

As of Tuesday, July 5, 111 people in the city have tested positive for orthopoxvirus (see below) and all likely have monkeypox, according to the city’s Health Department. That is up from 55 cases a week earlier.

“Most of these people have had mild illness, have not been hospitalized and have recovered on their own,” the Health Department said on its website. “Even with mild illness, the rash and sores from monkeypox can be itchy and painful.”

The current outbreak is among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men, the Health Department said, but anyone can get and spread monkeypox.

NYC public health officials indicate they will receive more vaccines to stem the outbreak.

The city launched a surprise vaccine clinic last month, but it lasted only hours before running out of enough doses of vaccine to handle walk-ins. That situation may improve shortly, though.

“We’re expecting to receive more doses of the monkeypox vaccine in coming days and will make appointments available soon,” the city tweeted.

Washington, D.C., is reporting an 8-fold increase in monkeypox cases.

Monkeypox cases in D.C. have grown eightfold in the past week, and cases are getting more severe, according to health officials.

As of Tuesday, there are 58 known cases of the viral disease in the District. City health officials reported seven people had the virus last Tuesday.

D.C. is among the regions of the country with the most monkeypox cases, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Some of the latest patients to contract the virus have had to seek care at hospitals, officials said.

“We have had individuals in D.C. who have been hospitalized for pain control. This is not something that’s just bumps. It’s very painful rashes and legions on your body,” said Patrick Ashley, with the D.C. Department of Health.

Scientists have been avidly studying the new monkeypox strains. They’ve concluded the virus has mutated 12 times faster than the usual virus mutation rate.

The virus, which has infected more than 3,500 people in 48 countries since its detection outside Africa in May, may be more infectious due to dozens of new mutations. In all, the virus carries 50 new mutations not seen in previous strains detected from 2018 to 2019, according to a new study published June 24 in the journal Nature Medicine (opens in new tab). Scientists usually don’t expect viruses like monkeypox to gain more than one or two mutations each year, the study authors noted.

…As a large double-stranded DNA virus, monkeypox is much more able to correct replication errors than an RNA virus such as HIV, meaning that the current monkeypox strain should have really only accumulated a handful of mutations since it first started circulating in 2018. But, after collecting DNA from 15 monkeypox viral samples and reconstructing their genetic information, the researchers found that the real mutation rate was six to 12 times higher than they expected.

The massive jump in the monkey virus’s rate of mutation “is far more than one would expect considering previous estimates of the substitution rate for Orthopoxviruses,” the researchers wrote in the paper. “Our data reveals additional clues of ongoing viral evolution and potential human adaptation.”

Scientists speculate the virus has been adapting quickly due to humans, either during its spread through the European population or via animals (followed by a zoonotic transmission to humans).

Unfortunately, at the current transmission rates, the virus appears to be here to stay.

Anything about Chinese labs working on monkeypox viruses?

Oh! They’re all done. They put the finishing touches on in awhile back and sent it out in the world. Now they are sitting back to see what happens.

Why is news coverage of monkeypox a thing?

E Howard Hunt | July 6, 2022 at 9:35 am

If you don’t monkey around with other men you won’t get the pox. Its spread is limited to traditionally depraved communities.

The definition used by the dept of health is killing me;
‘ Gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men’.

All I can hear when I read that is Andrew Dice Clay….

Come now, there are other categories for men having sex with other men. What about the man whose wife and children are being held hostage by an Albanian criminal gang who will not release them until he performs in a series of rough trade homosexual films? What about the man who becomes drunk at his bachelor’s party and awakens with a very convincing tranny? What about the man who is unknowingly given powerful mind altering drugs in a top secret CIA experiment, and as a result engages in sex with men who appear as woman to his altered consciousness? I think this is what the CDC had in mind.

Well me, I just think prisons.

Funny you should mention someone waking up with a tranny. I do believe there are many in both parties that are keeping mum and even agreeing with what is going on because of the blackmail that is held over their heads. So many were Epsteins “friends” and this man got all his fortunes by holding blackmail.

    Chief

You fail to realize that the significance of them covering all possible inclusions is to show that they are taking this seriously because you have been forced to take this seriously as the passage of time brings us closer as its time for us to do what we have been doing today even more that yesterday as the importance of our work yesterday wanes in comparison of the challenges we face today. The selection and significance of our words must convey the solemnness and sincerity of our dedication realizing the importance of the tasks at hand to meet the challenges we face and maximize the effectiveness of our actions during the passage of time.

Hey, you sound like some stupid black ho.

taurus the judge in reply to E Howard Hunt. | July 6, 2022 at 11:12 am

I’m glad you brought that up- its a very real issue and, um, we have to really focus on doing something about it in ways we have never done before.

There should be some level of investigation to get to the bottom of the essence of your observation and we should all be watching to ensure every part and parcel is looked at carefully and with proper consideration not only of the essence of your observations but the perceptions of them as time passes forth.

I’m gad we had this discussion on your relative observations and feel confident in our shared commitment that we are one step closer to finding the proper resolution of our mutual concerns for the net benefit of all.

        I cannot thank you enough.

That’s no Bull Tarurus. Because when you think seriously about passage of time while waiting for the passage of a stupid black ho to pass her time in the White House as VP, the passage ot time slows down and it seems like it’s taking forever to pass by.

“I got my second shot back in January and I’m so glad I did. And yeah, I felt a little off or a few hours the next day. But after that, I was fine. Who knows what I’m talking about? Right? Right? You felt a little off right after or the next day, but then you were fine, and then you knew you were protected.”

Um, you’re still off and the protection we need, is from you. And POTATUS.

    Guys,

I get the whole goal of shifting definitions and language games. So do most others. This is especially so when we had the newest SC Justice declaring she would defer to a biologist for an answer on what a woman is.

Then a short time later the same people and media outlets reported non stop and without irony that Women would be imperiled by the decision in Dobbs. Average people notice this bs and don’t approve.

The joy of Dice is the refreshing honesty on the issue of homosexuality. ‘Either you suck ….or you do not suck ….’
Honest and unambiguous language should always be welcome and preferred.

The internet is full of clips of Dice and other comedians. There is a great deal of red pill material out there some very influential; Awaken with JP or Joe Rogan as two examples. There are thousands of reactors who view, discuss and further disseminate the red pill message in various forms.

Point being is folks know WTF is going on, most do not like it one little bit and are counting the days till the midterms and Nov ’24 to begin rolling back the excesses. Baring some additional last minute rino incompetence the midterms are shaping up as red wedding.

“The joy of Dice is the refreshing honesty… The internet is full of clips of Dice and other comedians… Awaken with JP or Joe Rogan as two examples. ”

Just a note: “Dice” is no longer unambiguous, like “Madonna” or “Cher.”
      Mark? Andrew?

Sorry. I don’t always clue in when two separate comments were made by the same person. Spent too much of my life reading C code, implied curly brackets, scope of local variables, yadda, yadda.

I love the use of “doubled” and “8 times”! Using math to scare-monger.
If you go from 1 to 2 cases, they’ve DOUBLED! That 8x is just going from 7 to 58. We’re still on the 3d grade multiplication table here.

They’re trying hard to gen up the fear over this, but it’s still not an epidemic and certainly not a pandemic. But fear it has to be. Just like they did with AIDS….

GWB in reply to GWB. | July 6, 2022 at 10:49 am

    And with this bit, too:
The massive jump in the monkey virus’s rate of mutation
Gotta generate fear. Otherwise how are you going to get the peasants to stay in their hovels at night?

Keeping people in fear by 24/7 propaganda.. Run, get tested… get tested daily. Sneeze and you are almost dead…get tested.. get the latest shot Pfizer does TV commercials… get the shots get more shots…get tested so we can say you are ill. Watch the moving ball… you are sleepy… very sleepy

henrybowman in reply to GWB. | July 6, 2022 at 4:58 pm

    A hundred cases a day!
The only reason they haven’t remobilized the internment camps is because they can’t risk the optics of imprisoning only gay liberal males.
Quick, Jordan, Prager, Rufo, Rand, Tucker, Marjorie… show us a pock, any pock!

“The current outbreak is among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men..,”

Er… what’s the last one again? Isn’t that the same as gay?

“…but anyone can get and spread monkeypox.

Anyone who is a man who has sex with other men that does not fall into the first three categories I assume.

And these people are scientists.

“Hey, you sound like some stupid black ho.”

You know, you can criticize Kamala Harris all you want for her left-wing politics, and even make fun of her word salads. But when you refer to the Vice President of the United States as a “stupid black ho” you are not helping the cause at all.

Thanks to Professor Jacobson this blog now has a national audience. Act like it, people.

“Back where I come from, there are men who do nothing all day but good deeds. They are called phila er- Good-deed-doers. And their hearts are no bigger than yours. But they have one thing you haven’t got. A testimonial. Therefore, in consideration of your kindness, I take pleasure at this time in presenting you with a small token of our esteem and affection (presents Kamala a nomination for Vice President of the United States.) And remember, my sentimental friend that a heart is not judged by how much you love but by how much you are loved by others.”

Still tin at the end of the play, though.

True… no need to elaborate with descriptions of the one that we all recognize by the inability to say anything that would answer a question…Biden does the same thing. Never answer just use words and so many of the dumbed down, progressively educated will never ask WHAT??? as they wouldnt want to appear stupid. This reminds me of the “Emperors New Clothes” by Hans Christian Andersen… No one wanted to be called stupid and allowed the king to ride through the streets naked to avoid being called stupid. ‘

Until somebody grows a tail and starts climbing trees, I’ll not worry about it.

I’ve had an earworm of the theme from George of The Jungle for the past four days, and you’re NOT helping!

While this clearly affects trans/homosexual males, in the spirit of equity and inclusion, it should be noted that the back… black hole… whore h/t NAACP is a primary transmission path for AIDS, Covid-19/20/21/22, monkeypox, and diverse blood and fecal-borne diseases.

111 cases in a population of 8.4 million. I’m not shaking in fear.

“Roughly 100 people every year choke themselves to death with ball-point pens.”
    L. M. Boyd, syndicated newspaper trivia columnist

As a business owner for 38 years I have interviewed recent high school and even college grads that read at a 5th grade level. They cannot write a letter and, as illustrated by the inability to count back change, their math skills are 3rd grade. Sad.. But a dumbed down population allows those in power to rule unquestioned.. Sad

“Seeking care in a hospital” that is a really meaningless statement. It sounds scary but is actually just where people showed up. Why not an urgent care? Why not their doctor’s office? People show up to the emergency department for all kinds of trivial things.

“hospitalized for pain control” another BS statement. Whenever someone is hospitalized for pain control that’s a red flag that there is really no reason to hospitalize them but that they just want IV opioids. Oral opioids are already very powerful.

It sounds like the whole disease process is being played up and scare tactics are trying to be employed but basically not very effectively as I read this article.
