Liz Cheney Trailing Harriet Hageman By 22 Points In Poll of Wyoming House Primary

Liz Cheney Trailing Harriet Hageman By 22 Points In Poll of Wyoming House Primary

Cheney tossed her entire career down the toilet in pursuit of Trump’s personal and political destruction.

Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney (R-ish) has little to recommend her as a politician: she is unlikable, has zero charisma, and is stuck on stupid, primarily the Bush-Cheney “compassionate conservatism” and constant war-mongering days that most Americans were happy to see come to a close.

But she does have that last name, which she uses instead of her married name for obvious reasons, so it gave her a certain cachet in Wyoming. That is until she turned into a Never Trump shrew who latched on to the actual threats to our Republic—Democrats—to slay her ideological foe, Donald Trump, and to drag the Republican Party, kicking and screaming, back to the failed Bush-Cheney party of yore.

Wyoming, however, appears poised to deny her the political office she needs to achieve her dearly-held, out-of-touch desire. A month out from the GOP primary for Wyoming’s only seat in the House of Representatives, Cheney is trailing her Trump-backed challenger by double digits.

The Star Tribune reports:

Former President Donald Trump’s pick to unseat Rep. Liz Cheney in the race for Wyoming’s lone House seat holds a commanding 22-point lead with a month until the primary, a new Casper Star-Tribune poll shows.

Natural resources attorney Harriet Hageman leads Cheney 52% to 30%, the poll shows. No other challenger received more than 5% support. Only 11% of voters were undecided.

The poll, conducted for the Star-Tribune by Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy, surveyed 1,100 registered Wyoming voters likely to participate in the primary, resulting in a margin of error of plus or minus 3%, according to Brad Coker, Mason-Dixon managing director.

While the Cheney-Hageman race is one of the nation’s most closely watched, this is the first independent, public, in-state poll to be conducted. It was performed from July 7 to July 11 — shortly after early voting began here.

Cheney’s vote to impeach the former president after the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and her relentless criticism of Trump as a threat to democracy and the rule of law have spurred the toughest reelection fight of her career. In September, Trump selected Hageman from several challengers as his pick to take on Cheney, one of his biggest political enemies.

There seems little doubt that if Cheney loses her bid for reelection, it will be due to politically and socio-cultural tone-deafness and a profound inability to read the room.

Throughout early 2021, Cheney droned on and on about her hatred for President Trump, and she did so to the extent that it was harming her ability to fulfill her role in the #3 spot in GOP House Leadership. Taking on Trump became her entire focus, and she was eventually removed from House leadership . . . with the support of House leadership. It was truly stunning.

But even that didn’t deter her. Blinded by Trump Derangement Syndrome, completely broken by Trump, Cheney decided to toss her entire political career down the toilet in pursuit of his personal and political destruction.

Newsweek reports:

Before her opposition to the ex-president, Cheney was popular in Wyoming. The congresswoman won her 2020 reelection with nearly 69 percent of the vote. That was even a notable improvement compared to the just under 64 percent she garnered in 2018 and the approximately 62 percent she won in 2016.

However, Trump outperformed Cheney in Wyoming in 2020, with nearly 70 percent of the vote. The result was similar in 2016, with Trump garnering just over 68 percent compared to Cheney’s nearly 64 percent.

Some have suggested that Cheney could see a boost in support from Democrats switching their party affiliation to support her. Wyoming currently allows voters to change their party registration on Election Day. But there are four times as many Republicans in Wyoming as there are Democrats, according to The New York Times, meaning it’s unlikely that support from the state’s liberals would be enough to salvage her campaign.

Her appeal to Wyoming Democrats to vote for her is yet another example of her political ineptitude.

Not only are there not enough of them to make a difference, but the Cheney name is anathema to the far left, and she is about to learn the lesson that John McCain, Mitt Romney, and countless other nominal Republicans who’ve courted the left have learned the hard way: nothing you do will change a leftist’s heart or mind, much less a vote. You are the enemy, and while they are happy to pat you on the head while you are being a good useful idiot, they will turn on you with daggers in a split second.

Trailing by 22 points. So, her win will require more fake ballots and algorithms than first predicted.

It’s sad when I can’t automatically say this won’t happen. Lots of US elections that the results are very suspicious…

Wyoming is abut 15% Democrat, Not enough of them to really make much of a dent. The population is so small that even a few thousand fake ballots is going to get noticed very quickly.

Just got back from a trip driving around a much of Wyoming (basically everywhere but Yellowstone and Jackson, I think it was a bit too much driving!) Saw very few Cheney signs and Hageman signs plastered everywhere. I think she will get crushed.

I love everything about that state except winter, which is basically 7 months as far as I’m concerned. They need to move Wyoming 1,000 miles south and it would be perfect.

How is this even possible? It’s like being a card carrying member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association having never lived outside of Sweden. All my ice hockey skills I learned in Tahiti.

        I’m a Wyoming Democrat.

Yet, we all know what happened in November, 2020 and there have been exactly zero consequences for that theft.

    Bingo.

Witch hunters, warlock judges, and human rites advocates are losing in the polls.

“she is about to learn the lesson that John McCain, Mitt Romney, and countless other nominal Republicans who’ve courted the left have learned the hard way: nothing you do will change a leftist’s heart or mind, much less a vote.”

Have to disagree strongly with this bit. McCain, Romney, and countless others have never learned this lesson which is why they keep sticking their hands into the Demoncrats mouth and getting bit.

It’s one of the major problems with Republicans. They can not learn that the left only uses them and will never support them in anyway.

As for Cheney I’m baffled that she’s still running. It must be a pride thing that she hasn’t bowed out.

Barry in reply to TheOldZombie. | July 17, 2022 at 7:52 pm

Actually, “McCain, Romney, and countless others…” are simply on the other side. They are doing exactly as they plan.

Bush (both), Cheney, were never for freedom and liberty. They pretend, all the while aiding in the destruction of freedom.

Were it up to me the guillotine would be returned to widespread use.

It’s only the people who think they aren’t learning who aren’t learning.

Ironclaw in reply to TheOldZombie. | July 18, 2022 at 8:35 am

McCain and Romney among countless others are simply democrats that refuse to self-identify as communists.

Reminder: McCarthy had to be shamed into removing her and McConnell is currently supporting her even though she’s losing badly. These 2 GOPe losers will be in charge again if Pubs regain power in Congress.

Id like to know what the F is wrong with 30% of Wyoming.

I posted this originally at Victory Girls this morning, I hope you don’t mind if I re-use it here.

I cannot speak for the rest of Wyoming, but at least for my little town in the northwest corner of the state, 100% of the (soi disant “local”) support comes from the upper echelons of our town and surrounding area. In the past two weeks campaign signs for both Cheney (national) and Newsome (state) have been sprouting like poisonous mushrooms, but only in the isolated upper-crust neighborhoods of $1.5 – $2.5 million dollar homes and “ranches”. A quick trip up one of the river valleys shows the small working ranches with Hageman and Webber signs, and the huge multi-million-dollar “vacation spreads” with Cheney signs.

There is literally NO ONE I have talked to that actually works for a living (as opposed to being a trustafarian or red-diaper inheritance twit) who supports Cheney…not one. Many of the larger established businesses will support Cheney for reasons I don’t clearly understand; perhaps she has greased enough wheels to garner support from the GOPers.

But the single most perverse thing that has gone on here is that she and her campaign have encouraged, underwritten, and provided concise detailed instructions on how voters currently registered as Dem-wingers can change their registration in time for the Republican primary to be eligible to vote in it, hoping to swing the primary election enough to retain her tenuous grasp on political power. Let me be clear; this is NOT criminal activity in WY, and under the law she is neither inciting vote fraud or “insurrection/sedition” by doing so, nor would any of the voters be violating the law by switching their registration, casting a primary vote for her, and then switching back to “communist” when they’re done.

What it IS, is ethically and morally wrong and evil. So is Cheney.

The name of the office for which she is seeking re-election should be a clue as to the performance of the person in that office; it’s the “House of Representatives”, not the “House of Personal Aggrandizement”, and Liz Cheney has utterly and completely betrayed the trust that the people of Wyoming had put in her by voting her into that office. Her failure to represent the wishes and will of the people of Wyoming, in order to further her own personal Trump-hating/fearing agenda is why she should be the tame RINO on MSNBC, PBS, NPR and the rest of the alphabet-soup lame-stream propaganda ecosystem rather than pretending to represent the people of Wyoming.

My fear is that her primary vote fraud will work, and that she will have enough support from the deep-pocket Dem-wingers to succeed.

The states where Dems were most able to perpetuate fraud, are ones with major urban Dem controlled cities, with a population more/less equal to that of the rest of the state. Seattle rules Washington, Portland rules Oregon, L.A./S.F. rule California. I can’t imagine WY is in danger of such – hopefully.

    all our fears clearly stated

Wyoming do the right thing and get rid of this cancer

Honestly this is the thing that I find the most upsetting about mushy middle/left Republicans. I held my nose and voted for McCain and Romney because they would have been at least a little better than Obama. These bastards can’t return the favor with Trump. So what if you don’t like him and his tweets and obnoxious persona. Vote for the Republican nominee like I did you back stabbing POS. If you voted for Hillary Clinton you voted to destroy the constitution via court appointees that do not ever care what it says. If you voted for Biden you voted to destroy domestic oil production and Canada pipelines. You voted for killing 13 of our service members in the most ridiculous show of incompetence running the military in the history of man kind.
All because you are butt hurt about a guy who you wouldn’t want at your country club.

CommoChief in reply to Martin. | July 17, 2022 at 8:57 pm

Yes indeed. Whomever ends up as the r nominee we support. We don’t get butthurt and stay home or worse pull the lever for our opponents or start some BS protest third party run like McMullen.

That said the establishment is going to try and push Noem, Haley, Hogan or some other rino. There will be a primary fight. It may include DJT, it may include DeSantis, maybe both. Worse maybe neither.

The populist right needs to evaluate and choose the best candidate for 2024 then quickly coalesce around them and knock back the establishment. Either DJT or DeSantis will get it done. Whichever can earn my vote will get it but they will have to earn it based on the conditions and circumstances of 2024.

I wish it was 100%

henrybowman | July 17, 2022 at 8:41 pm

She’s not actually “trailing” Hagemann.
She’s chained to Hagemann’s rear bumper.
And the light is red… yellow… yellow… yellow…

It gonna miss her, glad to see her gone.

And still she will win

Interesting now to hear the Lisa Murkowski ads…. “strong , independent, working across the aisle for Alaska.” “Lisa” will run left of center as an independent RINO. My bet… if the “assault rifle” bill gets to the Senate, she will vote for it. She needs Democrats to win. .With the Red Wave we are seeing the RINOs finally show themselves …. they are cashing in with their donors and moving left .. left of center carried along with the tide… they think.

Has there ever been anyone who had Trump’s endorsement power? He is a one-man revolution clearing the decks of traitors. The GOP has never had a one-two punch like Trump and DeSantis. So long as Trump attracts all of the incoming fire, DeSantis is not only safe, he is being bolstered by Gov. Hair Gel’s mind-numbingly dumb attack campaign. So now the Uniparty has two Titans stomping the Uniparty into oblivion.

mailman in reply to Pasadena Phil. | July 18, 2022 at 9:15 am

The GOP has had a few opportunities through time that it has, most likely, deliberately missed because of the inconvenience of doing things “for the people”. My first real experience of American politics was the Tea Party. Man, what a missed opportunity for reform was that from the GOP! Then again, that would have meant reform for the Republican party so its no wonder that opportunity was deliberately missed.

The next opportunity came in the unexpected form of a Trump Presidency. Boy did that catch the GOP out like a case of herpes on a Sunday morning! So what did the GOP do, they deliberately gave up Congress to hamper Trumps aim of putting America first (they probably realised Trump was never going to realistically be removed as President even back then). Because you know, you cant go having the people’s interests being put ahead of the political classes interests can you!

And now the GOP will miss the Trump/DeSantis train, quite deliberately, because again you cant go putting every day Americans interests ahead of the ruling elites interests (which incidentally have nothing to do with every day Americans interests).

What Trump has unwittingly done is kill the old GOP. Thing is the old GOP doesnt realise it yet but they are dead.

As a very early Tea Party guy myself, I can tell you that it was our disgust for the Bush crowd that motivated us. That is when I started making my Pasadena Phil rules on my old blog. Rule #1: Never EVER vote for liberals or Democrats….ESPECIALLY when they run as Republicans.

CommoChief in reply to mailman. | July 18, 2022 at 11:11 am

The tea party was in a sense an early adopter of the populist right. Many of us have been in this space since the late 1st term of the Bush admin and smaller number of us as far back as Ross Perot.

The willingness of the r base to vote for an anti establishment candidate who campaigned on the issues impacting us pre existed DJT. That’s not to minimize his role. DJT held some populist views prior to beginning his campaign in 2015. He was and is an effective advocate for reforming our policies on the debt, illegal immigration, trade, tariffs, off shoring manufacturing, energy, the domestic surveillance state and national security.

His ability to use the existing desire and very powerfully advocate for these ideas expanded the vote tally for r across the board in 2016 and 2020 because the audience was already there. They finally had someone running for president who seemed to get their frustration and was pushing the same sorts of solutions had discussed in diners and bars and at the kitchen table for years.

If DJT returns to the themes that got him elected in 2016 and avoids straying from that core message he can repeat his success in 2024.

Had ANYONE ever seen Cheney smile? She is completely devoid of humor. Send her packing.

Cheney’s political fortunes may be destroyed, but, her bank account is primed to receive loads of filthy lucre. It’s almost a certainty that this miserable crone will receive a lucrative media perch from CNN, MSNBC, etc. That’s part of the calculus for these contemptible “Never-Trump” fanatics. They know that they’ll be financially rewarded by the Dumb-o-crat media apparatus, for parroting the Dumb-o-crats’ anti-trump venom and vitriol.

And, if they aren’t financially rewarded, like slobbering puppies desperate for approbation and attention, they’ll still be happy to receive a pat on the head and a doggie treat, from the Dumb-o-crats.

Cheney’s “Vote for me, Dems!” gambit went bad when Roe was overturned and she praised the Court. The same Leftists who were rooting for her to be re-elected and to run for president in 2024 howled like scalded cats.

Wyoming Democrats will stay in their lane and vote in their own primary.

I think as a grand finale to the January 6 hearings, Liz should lie on her back on the floor, kicking her legs at anyone who comes near, helicoptering her arms and screaming, “I hate Trump, I hate Trump”. Maybe she could also be holding lit sparklers in her hands for more attention.

I do not live in WY and have not been in the state for at least 35 years, but I cannot see anyone voting for Cheney. Cheney is a creature of DC and with her trying to get Dems to vote for her in the primary to save her she reeks. I have seen Hagemann on several interviews and she seems real and not someone that fits the RINOs mold.

I very strongly disagree with Ms. Cheney’s view, and her actions. That said, I give her credit for courage. She stood for her principles, knowing the consequences. If I were voting in WY, I’d vote to dump her. Still, she gets some respect from me.

If only we’d see the same from urban Democrats! Still, their failure does not detract from her courage.
