Bidenflation Shortages Continue: Hershey Warns There Won’t Be Enough Candy To Meet Halloween Demand

America’s back!

Joe “I am the Democratic Party” Biden is wreaking havoc on our economy and our fellow citizens. Not only is everything far more expensive than it was before he took office, but there are shortages of everything from batteries to tampons to baby formula to fertilizer used to grow food.  And now we can add candy to the list.

Hershey has announced that there won’t be enough candy to meet consumer demand for Halloween.

The New York Post reports:

“We will not be able to fully meet consumer demand due to capacity constraints,” Hershey chief executive Michele Buck told analysts during a Thursday earnings call.

The Hershey, Pa.-based manufacturer said it began in April to build a stockpile of Hershey Bars, Kisses, KitKats, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Twizzlers and York Peppermint Pattys to prepare for the crucial Halloween and holiday seasons.

“And we were really producing,” Buck said of the early push.

The problem, Buck explained, is that Hershey makes its seasonal candies and all-year-round products on the same manufacturing equipment, and demand for sweets in general has exceeded the company’s expectations.

Movie theaters also reported difficulty in procuring enough sweets and snacks earlier this year, as The Post reported.

In the meantime, Democrats are trying to hide the horror show they have created by changing the definition of the outcome.

And yes, they really do think we are that stupid.

Chocolate has a “flavor half-life” of about two weeks. A candy bar made in April won’t have much culinary difference from cardboard by Halloween.

That’s not true. On the contrary, chocolate’s flavor lasts much longer than its “sell by” date; old chocolate eventually turns white but still tastes the same.

KitKats? This $h!t is getting serious now!

It’s just as well. There are some families too poor to have Halloween. Some are so poor, they gave to rent their pumpkin.

So, why should only the rich have a good time, and have candy?!?

/for the humor impaired, I’m kidding.

I’ll bet there’s no shortage at the border as little illegal kids are welcomed with candy and bottled water while their mothers are given a supply of infant formula.

It would be a good meme to start that the lack of candy for Halloween is the fault of the Democrats . . . as will be the lack of candy for Christmas. 🙂

    “Build Back Bleak House.”
“Daddy, why is there an orange in my stocking?”

Ha! Good luck finding oranges when the fertilizer/insecticide/diesel shortages and costs really hit home (and it is home for me here in Florida!).

According to my 104yo mother in Florida, prices for Florida orange juice are insane in Florida. Continual checks show she is (for once) accurate — for some reason, Florida orange juice is available at reasonable prices everywhere we have ever lived, but there are no deals to be had inside Florida itself. It reminds me of the “fair trade” years.

The kids could always carve up municipal buildings in New Orleans. It’s a chocolate city, right?

Seems like plenty others have been alienated.
Is your skin really that thin, Karen?

The original NYPost article states that the “demand for sweets in general has exceeded the company’s expectations.” Increased demand is not a supply chain shortage or inflation problem that can be blamed on Biden without a LOT of explanation and supporting evidence.

Milhouse in reply to GravityOpera. | July 31, 2022 at 9:40 am

Actually, it is. Candy is a Giffen good; demand goes up as people feel poorer, because it substitutes for more expensive pleasures.

GravityOpera in reply to Milhouse. | August 3, 2022 at 2:55 am

I’m surprised that I’ve never heard the term Giffen Good before. That partially satisfies the “explanation and supporting evidence” requirement. I would need to see more evidence that candy is a Giffen Good in the current circumstances and that the increase in demand is not due to another cause.

That being said, thank you for making me aware of a term I did not know and for filling in something that should have been included in the article.

AOC suggests just switching to Mars bars because being out of this world they have no supply chain issues.

I broke my glasses frames earlier this week, and I’m working on an old prescription that doesn’t do small print very well. I originally read your comment as “Marx bars,” and it still worked.

I love Mars actually AOC or not

I’m a Ghirardelli man myself… Being a bear, I approve of any brand starting with grr…

Wait until Christmas and they blame Santa’s shortage of presents and toys on Putin or the North Pole’s reliance on fossil fuels to power his sleigh and fertilizer to grow the food to feed the reindeer, never mind the reindeer farts and the CO2 emissions

healthguyfsu | July 31, 2022 at 12:09 pm

TBH America could do with a little less of this anyways.
