More Than One Million Voters Have Switched From Democrat to Republican Over the Last Year
“nowhere is the shift more pronounced — and dangerous for Democrats — than in the suburbs”
An analysis of voter registration data by the Associated Press has found that over a million voters have switched from Democrat to Republican over the last year.
If the report is accurate, this is not as much an embrace of the right as it is a rejection of the left.
Many Americans are looking at economic and social issues and coming to the conclusion that they no longer align with the Democratic party’s embrace of the woke, progressive left.
This report from the Associated Press reads like a warning to Democrats. In fact, that’s right in the title:

A political shift is beginning to take hold across the U.S. as tens of thousands of suburban swing voters who helped fuel the Democratic Party’s gains in recent years are becoming Republicans.
More than 1 million voters across 43 states have switched to the Republican Party over the last year, according to voter registration data analyzed by The Associated Press. The previously unreported number reflects a phenomenon that is playing out in virtually every region of the country — Democratic and Republican states along with cities and small towns — in the period since President Joe Biden replaced former President Donald Trump.
But nowhere is the shift more pronounced — and dangerous for Democrats — than in the suburbs, where well-educated swing voters who turned against Trump’s Republican Party in recent years appear to be swinging back. Over the last year, far more people are switching to the GOP across suburban counties from Denver to Atlanta and Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Republicans also gained ground in counties around medium-size cities such as Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Raleigh, North Carolina; Augusta, Georgia; and Des Moines, Iowa.
I imagine this person quoted by the AP is indicative of how many people feel:
Ben Smith, who lives in suburban Larimer County, Colorado, north of Denver, said he reluctantly registered as a Republican earlier in the year after becoming increasingly concerned about the Democrats’ support in some localities for mandatory COVID-19 vaccines, the party’s inability to quell violent crime and its frequent focus on racial justice.
“It’s more so a rejection of the left than embracing the right,” said Smith, a 37-year-old professional counselor whose transition away from the Democratic Party began five or six years ago when he registered as a libertarian.

Back in Larimer County, Colorado, 39-year-old homemaker Jessica Kroells says she can no longer vote for Democrats, despite being a reliable Democratic voter up until 2016.
There was not a single “aha moment” that convinced her to switch, but by 2020, she said the Democratic Party had “left me behind.”
“The party itself is no longer Democrat, it’s progressive socialism,” she said, specifically condemning Biden’s plan to eliminate billions of dollars in student debt.
It’s important to note that this shift is not new. We saw shades of this beginning in Florida months ago. We reported in April:

In February, we pointed to the Republican shift among Latino voters in Texas, which seems to be confirmed by the election of Mayra Flores.
Anything can happen between now and November, but if these trends continue it certainly looks like a red wave is coming.

The winner is not declared until the computer votes are counted.
Anyone with a scintilla of common sense or decency at this point would never belong to, vote for, support or at least openly admit they are Democrats…proof…just look at those in the public eye or online who do…complete and utter vile garbage people.

Meh… I wonder how many of these are progs who “switched” in order to cast a vote in a R primary to advance a candidate they consider more “beatable?”
It isn’t a secret that some Dems are trying to recruit leftist candidates to run as Republicans, like, for instance, Oz.
And then there are “Republicans” like Cheney who are openly recruiting Dims to come over and vote for her, so she can continue to screw her “constituents” by doing the exact opposite of what they want her to do.
It’s time to call spades spades and let Cheney run on another ticket. We need to have a big tent, but letting explicit traitors into it won’t solve the GOP’s problems.

You skipped the other part of the original story, which is that about half as many Republicans switched to Democrat. I don’t recall the details because the story is several days old, but obviously the impact of party switching is somewhat less than you imply.

You need to recheck your math. Net gain= ~370K. Anyway, my point was that although the numbers are buried in the source article, which you quoted, he skipped over them here, which is still misleading.
A bit misleading – only a net delta of less than 400K voters
I also read 500,000 switched the other way. Still leaves a +500,000 R turn which is more than Brandon allegedly beat Trump by if you believe all those 1:00 am votes that suddenly appeared.
Um…I think the count that was used had a delta of ~7,000,000: it was supposedly 80,000,000 to 73,000,000. If we take buyer’s remorse into account, Trump is still in the WH. But take-backs require the traditional 4 year waiting period.
Hopefully Republicans continue to gain ground on registered voters, especially in crucial states like Florida. But above all we need poll watchers who won’t let Dems bully them or lock them out so that they can’t just cheat to win as easily.
It doesn’t matter how they vote; what matters is who counts the votes.
