Rich CA Democrat Rep. Katie Porter Discovers Inflation Due to the Price of Bacon

A Democrat staffer admits the obvious: “If you’re explaining, you are losing.”

The opening of this Politico piece made me snort: “Only after Rep. Katie Porter put bacon in her cart at her local grocery store recently did she notice that its price had spiked to $9.99 a pound. Reluctantly, she put the package back.”

Do you mean inflation is just now bothering Porter? How could that be?

One might sympathize with Porter, but Politico doesn’t mention that Porter is a millionaire and has a $174,000 a year salary. Instead, she continues to act like she is one of us.

Porter is a single mother of three, but in 2021, she has between $1.2 million and $2.8 million in assets:

Porter has largely evaded questions on her wealth and frequently earns praise for being more “relatable” than most politicians. In early 2020, the San Francisco Chronicle wrote of how her “empathy” stems from being a single mother of three school-age children “wrestling with the same questions other working parents face.”

But data also show that Porter is well above the salary threshold of the average single parent. According to the 2018 Census Bureau data, households led by single mothers took in a median $45,128 annually. Porter earns a $174,000 congressional salary—nearly four times more than what the average single mother takes in.

Porter has also falsely claimed to be the only single mother of young children in Congress.

Porter reports between $300,000 and $600,000 in mortgage liabilities, meaning her net worth at its minimum sits between $600,000 and $2.2 million. Figures in financial disclosures are reported in broad ranges rather than exact numbers. Her Truth to Power PAC did not respond to requests for comment.

We also must not forget that Porter voted for bills that required way more spending and printing of money.

The realization might be too late for Porter, a top GOP target, and her fellow Democrats. Porter is worried the Democrats do not know how to communicate with regular Americans about inflation and the cost of living:

When Porter gave an emotional speech about how inflation has been hitting her family for months during a private House Democratic Caucus meeting last week, she said it seemed like the first time the personal toll of high consumer prices had sunk in for some lawmakers in the room.

“Too often, Congress recognizes issues too late,” Porter, a top GOP target this fall in a swing district, said in an interview. “I had a colleague mention to me, ‘We’re not seeing it in the polls’ … Well, you don’t know what to ask.”

For Porter, the episode revealed how much work Democrats still need to do to assure voters they understand everyday anxieties, particularly inflation’s strain on family budgets. She’s not alone: Some Democrats have warned for months their party is falling short when it comes to communicating to an increasingly exasperated public.

The Democrats obsess over social issues that rarely affect most Americans while ignoring most Americans’ issues.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer made the senators vote on a radical and disgusting abortion bill today to show off what we already know: Democrats, except for Manchin, are okay with infanticide.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi supposedly wants the chamber to vote on a gas-prices package before Memorial Day. I didn’t know she cared because all we’ve heard about is abortion.

Politico acknowledges that Biden spends more time pointing the finger than telling us how he wants to fight inflation:

President Joe Biden, too, has sought to convey his urgency, calling inflation his “top domestic priority” at a Tuesday press conference. He spoke about his own childhood, how his family had a “kitchen table” discussion when gas or food prices went up. He told Americans, “I know you’ve been frustrated.”

But Biden also spent much of his time explaining the causes of inflation — using policy-heavy rhetoric that some Democrats who watched the speech compared to an economics lesson more than a political rallying cry. He echoed, as he did earlier this week at a private fundraiser in suburban Maryland, how little his administration can do to immediately fix the situation.

A Democrat staffer admits the obvious: “If you’re explaining, you are losing.”

The Democrats admit they need to work on messaging, but they still do not realize that people care about results and not blame. We are to the point where we want relief, and they’re looking at everyone but themselves:

Senior Democrats have since acknowledged that inflation is a highly complex economic problem, pointing to pandemic shutdowns, direct government payments approved to stave off poverty and, most recently, gas prices driven up by Russia’s war on Ukraine.

[New Hampshire Rep. Ann] Kuster, who sits on the House Energy and Commerce panel, has been digging into antitrust concerns with oil companies to understand why gas jumped from $3.89 to $4.29 in her hometown in just a matter of weeks.

Maybe Kuster should look around her for that answer. Maybe Kuster should look at the government’s actions during these last three years.

Maybe, just maybe, all of them should go away and leave us alone. Stop spending. Stop printing.

Mighty funny how all their lip-biting has affected a problem…what spills out of their pained lips is not true.

Bacon huh? Wait until she tries to pay for the rest of the pig.

nordic_prince | May 12, 2022 at 7:47 am

The cost of getting that little piggy to market is also a factor, with truckers paying close to a thousand dollars to fill up their rig.

    LibraryGryffon in reply to nordic_prince. | May 12, 2022 at 8:13 am

Truckers wish it was that little. I understand most rigs have 250 to 300 gallon tank capacity, and diesel in my area is about $6.50.

Another transparently inauthentic, posturing, phony Dumb-o-crat narcissist and apparatchik. Porter’s play-acting at mingling with the peasants of the proletariat and feeling their economic pain is as ridiculously staged as the odious Michelle Obama’s visit in disguise to a Target store, in 2011 or 2012.

Recall that the vile Obama first played the visit for laughs on late-night television, recounting how warm and fuzzy she had felt in assisting an elderly woman shopper (who clearly didn’t recognize her, disguised in baseball cap and dark sunglasses) in procuring an item situated on a high shelf. Months later, seeking to burnish her self-styled, contrived and laughable status as an alleged victim of racism, Obama mendaciously recast the same story, only this time as a tale in which the elderly shopper who had requested assistance from Obama had allegedly recognized her and still proceeded to treat her as the “colored” hired help. Because alleged, contrived victimhood is currency and power, in the Dumb-o-crat political ethos.

When a Dumb-o-crat relates a tale involving his/her mingling with the peasant rabble, treat it as nothing more than their usual self-serving, mendacious and narcissistic propaganda.

Let’s start a Go Fund Me so she can have bacon /S.

Pure projection by yet another obscure CA Dem. Ms. Porter needs to lay off the bacon, maybe buy Lab Bacon instead.

The reason pork is so high in Liberal LaLa Land (California) is the free range pig law.. AKA the “High in the Sty Swine Welfare Law”. Eating pork is OK as long as they can stretch their ham hocks before slaughter.

    Portlandia free-range chicken consumer questions…
“Did the chicken have a name and a family?”
    “Was he happy?”
    Idiocracy is here.

Right. Given that her experience was in California, it doesn’t prove much about inflation. If you want to measure accurately how inflation has affected the price of bacon, you should ask someone in any other state.

She looks as if she revels in the volume and aroma of her own flatulence.

E Howard Hunt | May 12, 2022 at 9:07 am

Shouldn’t she be eating soy and insects?

Lucifer Morningstar | May 12, 2022 at 9:12 am

. . . gas prices driven up by Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Why does the democrat party propaganda department still try and push this falsehood. We all know the price of gas started rising the minute Biden was inaugurated and shutdown all oil exploration & drilling in the United States. It had nothing to do with “Russia’s war on Ukraine” but everything to do with the Biden regime’s disastrous energy policies.

She should send a leteer to Putin to complain.

Bacon? I am surprised that she could recognize that as she is of the party stuffing pork into every bill. Maybe she should realize that her wealth took a 10% and more hit! I have lost 4 years of work value I can’t ever get back.

The “Putin” deal is Den infliction on us. That is failing in Europe as they cut deals for oil and gas. In the big picture the West is aiming for a Phyrric victory.

The Gentle Grizzly | May 12, 2022 at 10:21 am

I’ve virtually never mix a remarks, but here it comes: if I played for the regular team I would not want to wake up next to that.

E Howard Hunt | May 12, 2022 at 11:48 am

I’d be in no danger of waking up next to it as there is no combination of liquor, drugs, and bodily torture that could induce me to lie down with it.

Jack Klompus | May 12, 2022 at 12:24 pm

She has the perfect face for radio.

Katie Porter blindsided Jamie Dimon over the pay JP Morgan offers to starting employees… noting that it would not be enough to survive in the California she represents.

If Jamie had been on his feet he would have noticed that Katie Porter, who was recently elected to office, paid her campaign workers even LESS than what a starting teller makes.

thalesofmiletus | May 12, 2022 at 1:24 pm

She looks like someone that food inflation will be hitting hardest.

April PPI, producer price index was 11%. PPI is upstream of the CPI, consumer price index meaning that these increases will be passed in whole or in part to retail consumers.

Things are not really improving no matter how the Biden WH tries to spin it. Plus D/prog are now openly calling for price controls for fuel and home heating. They know their foolish policies in hindering domestic oil and gas are causing much of the persistence in inflation but want to spin it away; Putin’s price hike, greedy corporations.

IMO, they are scared and becoming desperate as more and more people realize how much the d/prog policies are hurting them. Get ready for rationing if they enact price controls.

The solutions are simple really. Start drilling for oil in the USA, get rid of California’s new regulations on trucks and truckers, reduce federal government spending, allow businesses to operate in the USA without so much burdensome regulation and government stop importing illegal aliens. Not complex but beyond Democrats abilities to actually even try.

texansamurai | May 12, 2022 at 2:20 pm

whoever he is, would bet he’s damned glad to be her EX

She literally said inflation was why we need abortions… crazy

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to geronl. | May 13, 2022 at 1:51 am

We need abortions so liberals don’t inflate the population with more liberals.

AF_Chief_Master_Sgt | May 13, 2022 at 12:53 am

She looks like 200 pounds of pork fat.

1) i found a 20lb box of bacon for $2lb. Course its not the fancy stuff millionare Porter is used to but smoked on the grill its good

2) Someone tell that dimwit Kustin to call me on fuel prices. Biden just canceled a giant Alaskan oil lease sale and gas is high due to his promise to kill the industry, He also ordered refineries to switch from gas to diesel refining right at the start of the summer. Where is that diesel? As someone whose company cant get deliveries of diesel for his fleet just old me, their supplier said they are putting it on trucks to New Jersey so it can be sent to Europe. Less gas + less diesel + higher demand = higher prices

She looks like she could be a legitimate source of bacon…

“I had a colleague mention to me, ‘We’re not seeing it in the polls’ … Well, you don’t know what to ask.”

And there’s your problem. No one even takes the time to understand their “customers/voters” anymore, they just look at the “numbers”, but those numbers are like any computer program, “garbage in = garbage out”.
