University of Pittsburgh Tells Students to Shelter in Place Due to an Increase in COVID Cases

“After arriving, students should shelter in place for at least 5 days, whether you live on or off-campus”

Doesn’t this seem like a bit of an overreaction, even bordering on hysterical?

FOX News reports:

Pennsylvania university tells students to ‘shelter in place’ after arriving on campus due to coronavirus

The University of Pittsburgh is asking that students “shelter in place” in their residence halls after arriving at campus due to an increase in coronavirus cases.

According to the university’s website, students living on and off-campus are instructed to “shelter in place” for at least 5 days after arriving.

“A University-wide shelter-in-place period will begin on Saturday, Jan. 8 on all campuses. After arriving, students should shelter in place for at least 5 days, whether you live on or off-campus,” reads the university announcement.

The announcement instructs students to “limit close contacts,” “interact virtually” and encourages students to use technology to interact with friends.

“If you’ve developed a set of close contacts outside your pod, we highly encourage you to use virtual and technology-based connections for socializing during the shelter-in-place period,” the announcement states.

Under the “shelter in place” guidelines, students are permitted to leave their room or apartment to attend classes, pick up food, exercise safely, work, studying in the library, and shopping “for essentials and medical needs.”

Group work should also be held virtually, according to the announcement.

Other American colleges and universities are also imposing their own “shelter in place” guidelines for students.

I can’t even get my teen to communicate with me electronically. 😉

Shelter in place? Coronaviruses are now equivalent in risk to an active shooter?

There is nothing to fear, except someone else’s unreasoning panic, itself!

They should just bite the bullet and install airlocks to all buildings with five-day timers.

Ridiculous.

If there’s an area that has an uptick in infection, I jump right in without masks and with minimal hand-washing, just to get it over with sooner. I haven’t been sick since Winter 2020, and even that was pretty mild.

Richard Feynman said: “The theoretical benefit of having many humanities subjects on the campus is offset by the general dopiness of the people who study these things.”

We can add those who run the campus to those who offset the theoretical benefit.

All kinds of colleges are freaking out, even though they’re completely vaccinated. Here is the instruction from the local college, with all the students and faculty vaccinated and boosted.

“Face masks must be worn at all times on campus in public indoor spaces and in private indoor spaces when in the presence of anyone who is not your roommate. Because of the high transmissibility of the Omicron variant, we will now require that face masks worn on campus must be N95, KN95 or KN94.”

I suspect the rules are being written by lawyers, not doctors. This rule implies that you can’t trust vaccination and boosters, and the cloth masks they’ve required up to now also can’t be trusted.

If they ever drop their mask requirement, then everyone will be exposed pretty much at the same time. So I wonder if their mask requirement will ever end.
