Ivy League Releases Statement in Support of Transgender Swimmer at Penn

“The Ivy League reaffirms its unwavering commitment to providing an inclusive environment for all student-athletes while condemning transphobia and discrimination in any form.”

Lia Thomas, the record-smashing transgender swimmer at UPenn, has received backing from the Ivy League and individual schools. No one at these schools seems to care about the biologically female swimmers who are losing out as a result.

The progressive agenda takes precedence over everything.

Ryan Gados reports at FOX News:

Lia Thomas finds support from Penn, Ivy League ahead of weekend meet

Lia Thomas, a transgender swimmer who has been dominating the pool for the University of Pennsylvania this season, found support from the Ivy League and the school ahead of the Quakers’ meet against Yale and Dartmouth this weekend.

Thomas has been wrapped in controversy for her prowess in swimming competitions this season. She previously competed as a man for two years on the school’s men’s team, and her success this year renewed criticism over allowing transgender women to compete against biological females.

But regardless of the parental outrage and some annoyance from her teammates, Thomas received support from the conference and the Quakers ahead of the important tri-meet on Saturday.

“Over the past several years, Lia and the University of Pennsylvania worked with the NCAA to follow all of the appropriate protocols in order to comply with the NCAA policy on transgender athlete participation and compete on the Penn women’s swimming and diving team. The Ivy League has adopted and applies the same NCAA policy,” the conference said in a statement Thursday.

See the tweet below:

Here’s more:

Joe Kinsey of Outkick got some comments on Lia Thomas from Olympic swimmer Erika Brown back in December:

In late December, Erika Brown, who won two Olympic swimming medals at the Tokyo Games, and is an active member of the U.S. National Team, spoke out against Thomas and transgender swimmers racing against biological females.

“I want to share something that’s been on my heart regarding what is going on in USA Swimming at the moment. I believe that we are all God’s children and we are called to love one another. I don’t want to create any hate, only speak up for what is right,” Brown wrote.

“We cannot allow transgender females to compete against biological women. A biological male goes through male puberty. Even when she has transitioned, she still has the physiology of a male. A few years of testosterone blockers and estrogen doesn’t change the fact that she will have more powerful muscles, a larger heart and greater lung capacity than a biological woman.

“It’s time to start standing up for women’s sports, before we lose what so many before us have fought for. I hope that this can help inspire others to speak up.”

Who will speak up for the women and girls whose sports careers are being harmed?

It’s sad to watch.

Amazing how common sense is considered (insert latest hobbyhorse) “phobic.”

I can’t wait until this absurdity reaches a more visible women’s sport like basketball. Having to defend a man dunking on a woman may finally show enough people what a fraud the transgender “movement” is. Of course, we may see “Lia” in the Olympics dominating real women.

TargaGTS in reply to Paddy M. | January 8, 2022 at 10:46 am

Good point. Outside of the Olympics, no one watches weightlifting, track & field and swimming. But women’s college basketball does get coverage every winter and women’s soccer gets some looks as well. When we see men on those national teams, maybe – just maybe – enough people will say…..enough.

I can’t wait for a bunch of 16 year old boys show up and there are no more purple hair, obnoxious bitches pretending they are soccer players.

        artichoke in reply to mbecker908. | January 8, 2022 at 9:55 pm

Yeah purple hair was obnoxious. But I watched some of the soccer and she was actually quite a good soccer player at that speed. I frequently find that athletes I enjoyed watching would probably hate me if they knew me. Ah well, I do other things now.

        Concur
A dallas area 16 year old soccer team beat the US womens soccer team in a scrimage.

Second point – in 1974/1975 The US womens volleyball team scrimaged an adhoc mens team from the Dallas Ft worth area. One rule was that the men had to be under 5’9″ to play and men could not hit in front of the 10 ft line. those “house rules” were there to ensure a competitive game

WNBA salaries are virtually nothing, and the league survives because the real NBA throws them some subsidy.

healthguyfsu in reply to artichoke. | January 9, 2022 at 5:38 pm

Yet the unwatched women and that fake woman thing that likes to decide her gender from day to day demand more money and claim discrimination.

artichoke in reply to healthguyfsu. | January 10, 2022 at 8:09 pm

This swimmer isn’t demanding money and was already enrolled at Penn, just switched from one Penn team to another. Probably had a sports scholarship already. And isn’t claiming discrimination.

If the WNBA is claiming discrimination, it’s like a tree falling in a forest. Did it really make a sound, when nobody heard it? I have no idea what the WNBA says. 🙂

A couple of broken faces in MMA didn’t do the trick, so I’m not sure how basketball is going to be any more effective.

I’m thinking it needs to be sports for which the majority of the audience consists of women, namely gymnastics and figure skating. Not to mention that with both sports the differences in what the men and women not only can do, but are required to do as part of their scores, is rather noticeable. For example, you don’t see women figure skaters doing quadruple jumps, but if you’re a man you’re not going far in the sport if you can’t do at least one in a routine.

Women’s golf and tennis. Easy pickings.

henrybowman in reply to henrybowman. | January 8, 2022 at 4:30 pm

Which, by the way, actually fed the current insanity. Bobby Riggs’ defeat “showed” the incipient feminist world that “see, women are just as good as men are” at “stuff.” Actually it showed that some women were better than Bobby Riggs was at some specific thing, but the collectivist mindset never seems to grasp this important distinction. And now, that distinction comes back with a vengeance to crush the collectivists.

I miss Andy Kaufman. He knew how to make points like this with a blunt instrument, and that’s all some people ever understand.

Over the hill, never a top player. But the current #300 ranked man would probably win in straight sets against any of the women, at least that was said a few years ago. The top women are great tennis players by my standards, far better than me. But not nearly as good as hundreds of men.

It reaching the game show Jeopardy did it – in a game of knowledge, there is a men’s and women’s team???

Btw, notice in the Webb space telescope news from NASA, only women present it. Yet in the photos of the scientists building the thing -not a single woman!

Dimsdale in reply to Paddy M. | January 9, 2022 at 5:52 pm

I would say that the real evidence that supports a real difference between men and women is that none of the female male-wannabes are trying to compete in men’s sports, only the weak men who choose to dominate women’s sports. Real women are being degraded by the alleged trans “women.”

Never condone stupidity or stupidity clothed in mob psychosis/politics.

I guess all the fighting that went on in the 60s over Title IX was for nothing now.

Reality and nature are going to be harsh task masters when the time comes.

I think this is a good thing and strikes at the heart of the matter: Just as women invaded men’s institutions, why is it wrong for men to invade women’s? Either women are equal to men or they’re not. Which is it?

Colonel Travis in reply to Mark. | January 8, 2022 at 1:00 pm

This is so idiotic. Swimming as a male for the first 20 years of your life and then switching to female sports in that male body is not invading a woman’s institution. It’s erasing females from their own sport.

Sports isn’t played with philosophy. It’s played with physicality. Equality under the law has nothing to do with your 100m freestyle time.

Not so idiotic if you’ve been watching the military and other organizations changing their fitness and training standards to “allow” women to qualify for combat and special forces roles. It only works one way because of ideology, not logic.

Colonel Travis in reply to txvet2. | January 8, 2022 at 2:01 pm

Sports does not = the military.

If a female can do what a male does for military purposes, I fully support that. But if to get to that point, standards are lowered, I don’t support that at all.

It is not just the height of lunacy and unfairness to pretend physical differences between men and women do not exist – with military, police, etc., it can have dangerous or deadly consequences.

“”Sports does not = the military.””

The philosophy and ideology are the same.

In the military they can’t, and they don’t. Every time they’ve actually gotten data for all-male vs co-ed units, the male unit significantly outperforms the mixed unit in every metric. The outcome EVERY SINGLE TIME is the lowering of standards, or the granting of exceptions to women that don’t meet the standard.

Colonel Travis in reply to Colonel Travis. | January 8, 2022 at 4:53 pm

txvet2. when is the last time you saw a grenade launcher at a swim meet? Sports were invented long ago for people to compete without killing each other. The ultimate purpose of sport and war is not the same whatsoever. If you are in favor of shoving women out of their own sports with she-men, have fun defending that to all those being shut out.

artichoke in reply to Colonel Travis. | January 8, 2022 at 10:03 pm

“Sports were invented long ago for people to compete without killing each other. ”

A good, relevant point. Then women shouldn’t be pushing for inclusion in co-ed wrestling. But there’s no risk with swimming, where everyone stays in their own lane and just swims. You’ve made the opposing point.

henrybowman in reply to Colonel Travis. | January 8, 2022 at 3:58 pm

But equality under the law of Madison and Hamilton is not the same thing as equity under the law of Vonnegut and Glampers. We must progress to insanity… and beyond!

artichoke in reply to Colonel Travis. | January 8, 2022 at 9:32 pm

Well my 100m freestyle time is much slower than competitive women swimmers. So I should be in women’s races by your logic. (I am a man who doesn’t swim very fast.)

Come to think of it, she (a MTF transgender) does belong in women’s races, because a FTM transgender Yale swimmer (i.e. born a woman) just beat her in more than one race. Some women do swim faster than she does.

alohahola in reply to Mark. | January 9, 2022 at 1:28 am

As a woman, I have never been interested in women’s sports, except for maybe figure skating, which is more art than sport.

If I watch a sport, it’s to enjoy observing the best and the fastest among ALL human beings—and that means tuning in only to men’s sports events.

goddessoftheclassroom | January 8, 2022 at 11:35 am

Of course Lia should be allowed to compete—with others of his/her sex chromosomes.

That is not the category. They’ve redefined it to gender. If they redefine it back to sex, then Lia might not qualify. Or they could redefine it to hair color or whatever they want.

As an older woman who had no avenue to play sports, I can not tell you the joy I had watching my daughter play and obtain a Division 1 scholarship.

This is complete insanity and women MUST stand up to it now or lose everything
There are no words for this

It is insanity to us, but to the communists and fascists trying to take over, it’s an important tool in their quest.

What about short people, who STILL don’t have a division in which they can win scholarships in tall-person sports? Any category but “absolute best” is arbitrary. You weren’t the absolute best. Neither was I, a non-athletic boy.

Yes something is being lost by some, gained by others, as a category is redefined — not erased but redefined. Someone else will win the events now.

The Ivy League reaffirms its unwavering commitment to providing an inclusive environment for all student-athletes while condemning transphobia and discrimination in any form

Obviously, this shouldn’t be happening. But I find it difficult to get too upset about it when the actual women who are being affected by it refuse to do anything about it. Stand up for yourselves. Step down off the blocks and refuse to swim. But if you don’t care enough to act, why should anyone else care?

They are paralyzed, terrified of being called names by the Marxists, names that will be amplified and validated by the entirely-Marxist press. They care deeply about the opinions of precisely those people they should not respect at all.

I will repost a previous observation:

Every generation has its own zeitgeist comprised of whatever message society thought most important to pound into kids’ heads in their formative years. In roughly reverse chronological order:

    Racism, equity and white supremacy.
    Stranger Danger.
Dope is for dopes, stay in school.
It isn’t about winning or losing.
Just say no to premarital sex.
    All you need is love.
    Question authority.

My generation had its own: Resist conformity, resist bad peer pressure (gangs).
My mother invented “if Johnny jumped off a bridge, would you?”
Not following the pack is the mindset that got me where I am today, and I’m in a fantastic place.
Parents and grandparents: talk to the little ones in your families and bring this one back.

artichoke in reply to aslannn. | January 8, 2022 at 9:41 pm

Most women are not affected by this. They weren’t winning the women’s events or making the women’s teams anyway. They weren’t top women athletes, just like most men aren’t top athletes (and the absolute category is the only one they could play in).

This is really a lot of complaining by people who were winning with the old category definition, who aren’t winning with the new category definition. There’s a solution for them though. Become the absolute best and they don’t have to worry about this sort of stuff.

“The Ivy League reaffirms its unwavering commitment to providing an inclusive environment for all student-athletes while condemning transphobia and discrimination in any form.”

Then what’s the purpose of “women’s sports” at all if men claiming to be women can compete against biological women. Seems to me that women should simply refuse to compete under such unequal & unfair conditions.

I don’t know about swimming, but, Thomas and his ilk win gold medals in the “Pathological Narcissism” competition, hands-down.

Lia Thomas was just a second-rate male swimmer, yet look at what s/he is doing. Just wait until some first-rate male swimmers decide they’re women.

They will have to have two “women’s” sets of records: Those of real women, and those of “transwomen.” Otherwise, some guy with Michael Phelps’ anatomy and ability will decide he wants to be a woman, and set records that no real woman will ever be able to approach.

Dear Everyone,

This is what a revolution looks like. Because this is a revolution.

Thank you for cutting to the chase. Way too many of us aren’t quite getting where we are.

artichoke in reply to Stuytown. | January 8, 2022 at 9:48 pm

Who cares? Nobody I know was in the running for those trophies, nor will be with the new category definition. It might be a little different watching women’s sports now, but I don’t watch much sports anyway. I tried to end ESPN on my cable package and they told me I couldn’t because it was now free; it’s no longer as desirable.

Wake me up when there’s something worth my while to revolt about. On this one, most women don’t care either; they weren’t winning those events anyway.

A cesspool of wokeness agrees a male can compete with the girls.
Really shocked that happened.

I wonder if takes some trans woman destroying some girl in a contact sport like basketball or soccer and a gigantic punitive damage lawsuit against the institution to change things? Unfortunately, if such a lawsuit were to be lost, these days the likely outcome would be the cancellation of women’s sports.

    artichoke in reply to jb4. | January 8, 2022 at 10:10 pm

What that should cause is women to stop trying to be included in contact sports like wrestling and boxing. It’s not fair to ask the opponent to “go easy” because you’re female, and so they don’t ask that as far as I’ve seen.

Which has nothing to do with swimming or tennis.

Now that Bruce Jenner has transitioned, should we move all of his Decathlon performances from “mens” records to “womens” records?

Results from the swim meet? A Yale swimmer transitioning from female to male but who is waiting to start taking testoterone so she can keep competing as a female, won the 100 and 400m freestyles.
